FINALLY made it up Tam today! it was absolutely brutal and also so so fun. āļø
it was a lot more challenging than i thought it would be! about 2.5k feet of climbing in the first 3.5 miles, then smooth-ish descent for the remaining 6.5. i want to be BETTER. but enjoying being here now!
always so in awe of the grand beauty so close to home. making a priority to venture out and experience it more often!

10 miles last friday! enjoying this slow build and feeling good š¤š¼
sammyās first overnight hike! he crushed it - really had himself a time out there.
we did spooner lake to marlette lake and back! 8 miles the first day, 11 the second.
iāve accepted he doesnāt love being a running partner, but he LOVES being a hiking partner. soooo grateful for that as thatās where i really need him most!

yesterday was a light intro into some interval workouts with 8x1 min smooth surges after about 6 weeks of chill scaling back during summer travel and ramp-up at my new job. felt really great on the surges, but completely gassed after.
the run home ended up being great practice for running to the effort my body needs! i reminisced a lot on easyyyyy cool downs for many of my workouts leading up to philly in 2019 (some 3+ min/mi slower than my marathon pace!) which gave me some renewed faith in trusting the process šø
took my sam backyard camping to test out new gear, see what we might be missing, + see how heād fare in a tent overnight. he did sooo well, most of my concerns about overnighting with him have been squashed.
pumped for Tahoe and White Mountains overnight adventures with him soon š„ŗ

felt slow out there but had so much fun for 7 miles over 80ish minutes. sore today, so pumped to be growinā!
will be building back up in mileage and intensity over the next few weeks which will be so freakinā fun. i think iām also going to start meeting up with sfrunco for more mt. tam adventures with a group on weekends!
i feel hopeful but impatient, per usual.
i use 80% of my brain power stressing about how to make sure my dog is living his best life š

about 8 miles with some vert in the middle. kept it easy like a good noodle and felt strong! fun to feel fitness in a consistently good place after a few years of consistency (mostly? ish? minus the hypothyroid episode(s)?)
i want to be SO much fitter but positive momentum and good vibes is really all i can ask for! š

took him on a 3 mile jog earlier in the week on the beach! i love running with him but heās more of a hiker than a runner - loves to take his time and sniff all the sniffs.
feeling fatigued but good running this week. just been aerobic miles. so pumped to keep building, excited to get out on trails this weekend and start reintroducing workouts next week!

unless itās a long run or workout i usually donāt stress too much about socks and go with whatever random TJ Maxx or Costco brand iāve bought though!

my latest big international trip was actually for pleasure, not work š¤Ŗ - BUT i did take a big work trip to Brazil earlier this year!
iām not great with packing but two things were particularly helpful for me (both for work and just in general):
1. think through your core daily or weekly routines and make sure you have all of the small things you need for them! for example, i canāt stand having my nails grow out too long or having a hangnail, so i brought a small pair of nail-clippers and ended up being so relieved i had them hah! same for stuff like q-tips. maybe thatās not revolutionary but it was for me.
2. plan outfits in advance, or at least donāt just throw things into a bag with the intent of āfiguring out what it goes with laterā. this helped me cut down on what i was packing and then made getting ready for the day feel so much easier and less stressful.
depending on where youāre traveling, iād also recommending just double-checking how your cell service will work (do you have an international plan? will you get a SIM? etc. - my international plan didnāt work well in Brazil which was a nightmare but it worked well in Europe for example). iād also double-check your credit cards are taken for the most part in the country or make sure you have enough cash (nowhere in Brazil took Discover, and i had trouble with AmEx in some smaller European countries surprisingly).
also goes without saying to pack an international adapter for your chargers!!

in my 8am meeting i had to present the v0 of a model that i know can be improved exponentially to a bunch of ML engineers/senior data science people and it was so out of my comfort zone. slowly finding my footing, but the chaos of figuring out swim lanes at an earlier stage company is insane š«
need to work on reducing stress during the day. i make mountains out of molehills and am so hard on myself! i guess thatās what i see dr. dean every week for LOL
š six eeeeeeasy miles with 6x20s surges up the main hill climb! easy was pretty much the only gear i had today haha but felt okay out there.
BUT. every time i donāt feel perfect i stress about it being some sort of hashimotoās flare š¤¦š¼āāļø. i really donāt think thatās the case here - iām probably just recovering still from a draining few weeks of international travel and trying to figure this new job out. definitely excited to get to more of a steady state with this so i can start to trust my body more with the ebbs and flows, though.
gonna keep the aerobic chilling rolling this week, hopefully will start some easy workouts heading into the next week!
my favorite part of being an Adultā¢ļø is having a morning/evening routine that i genuinely LOVE. i get to wake up every day and have a magical morning with my dog? and every evening after work i get to run around and look across to golden gate and the headlands? wow. wow wow!
š yesterday: 5 miles and hill strides along the water. felt GOOD after a couple of exhausting weeks.
āļø this morning: the usual Philz walk with Samson! i literally go to bed every night looking forward to this.

this new job is literally the hardest job iāve ever had š certainly doesnāt help that iām a huge work-life-balance-run-into-the-woods sort of girl. but proud of myself for being here. and proud of my six-months-from-now self.
also blah i feel like very few are still here on tumblr! but iāve yet to find a good low-effort high-reward replacement for it. pls drop your favorite running/outdoors/20-something blogs or flag yourself if youāre here!!
