The Producers
Die Entführung aus dem Serail
Propaganda for The Producers:
It's a big, classic overture which could totally pass for a Golden Age show if it wasn't written in 2001! Nobody does overtures like this anymore - except, apparently, The Producers. I was going to provide a timestamp for the best part until I realized I couldn't decide on a best part. Just listen to it!!

Die Fledermaus
Propaganda for The Producers:
It's a big, classic overture which could totally pass for a Golden Age show if it wasn't written in 2001! Nobody does overtures like this anymore - except, apparently, The Producers. I was going to provide a timestamp for the best part until I realized I couldn't decide on a best part. Just listen to it!!
Propaganda for Die Fledermaus:
I'm submitting this because it was one of the first pieces I played with a full orchestra. I have many good memories from it :) (also it was fun to play, even from a viola perspective).

The Producers advances to the next round!
Round 1, Poll 2
Which overture do you prefer
Notre Dame de Paris
Sweet Charity
Propaganda for Notre Dame de Paris:
None submitted.
Propaganda for Sweet Charity:
The Sweet Charity overture is so good it's absurd. It starts out slamming down that absolutely iconic Big Spender riff then goes straight into the musical equivalent of pure dopamine. It's such a good combination of classic and unique - that section with the guitars!! and it flows so wonderfully it's like floating around on clouds made of sugar.
Feel free to rb with any additional propaganda and I will rb it here.
Notre Dame de Paris advances to the next round!
Round 1, Poll 1
Which overture do you like better
Newsies
A dzsungel könyve
Propaganda for Newsies:
Just listen to the lone trumpt start this off and then how it builds and falls. It's just so ✨️✨️✨️
trumpet. bwaa.
Propaganda for A dzsungel könyve:
A dzsungel könyve' is my favourite musical ever. The musical is about Mowgli trying to find his place in the world. He can't stay in the jungle because he's a human, but he can't stay with humans because he's from the jungle, so in the end he's stuck somewhere in the middle ("A human among wolves, and a wolf among humans. Then what am I?" he says as his last speaking lines, this is not a happy musical). The 'Nyitány' ('Overture') is an indicator that everything humans need is provided by nature, they depend on it. The song is a prayer to the gods of nature (river, wild, fire and wind). It starts out simple with a few instruments and a single person praying but then steadily builds up (and it always makes me shiver when I listen to part where the music really kicks in), then it ends with the simple few instruments and a single person praying part.
Translation: God of the River, be a merciful lord, Your water lessens my thirst in the night, God of the Wild, be a merciful lord, The meat of the young deer lessens my hunger.
God of the Fire, be a merciful lord, The flames and light give me warmth, God of the Wind, be a merciful lord, Don't strike my home today.
(The 'Finálé' ('Finale') has this and an alternate version of 'Nyitány' in it, bracketing the whole musical.)
Feel free to rb with any additional propaganda and I will rb it here.
Newsies advances to the next round!

Round 1, Poll 9
Which overture do you prefer
Merrily We Roll Along
Beauty and The Beast
Propaganda for Merrily We Roll Along:
None submitted.
Note: The submission called for the overture from the 2017 film Beauty and the Beast, but since film overtures are not allowed, I switched it to the stage musical version.
Propaganda for Beauty and the Beast:
it's,, beauty and beast. u can practically sing along with the overture lol
Feel free to rb with any additional propaganda and I will rb it here
Merrily is one of the last real classic overtures. Sondheim and Tunick blend the songs from this show in a varied, swinging overture that expertly uses all the textures of the orchestra. This is the overture that convinces you that overtures aren't boring.
Also, listen to the original recording. It has a bigger orchestra, and it has the extra "Rich and Happy" section cut from later recordings.
Round 1, Poll 16
Which overture do you prefer
Anything Goes
The Phantom of the Opera
Propaganda for Anything Goes:
It's just so fun and sounds so quintessentially musical-y and overture-y
Propaganda for Phantom of the Opera:
It's the Phantom of the Opera overture. It's THE overture. It needs no introduction. It's a 27-piece orchestra blasting your eardrums off while a giant haunted chandelier levitates over the the Majestic Theatre and the pipe organ rattles the audience in their seats.
When the full orchestra pauses for a moment then soars in with that melody, is possibly the best thing ever put to stage. I think you could invent books full of new adjectives to describe the experience of listening to the Phantom overture.
It is one of the most iconic, most well known overture, showcases all the music that will be playing perfectly, and is paired with the rising of the chandelier
Round 1, Poll 15
Which overture do you prefer
Tanz der Vampire
My Fair Lady
Propaganda for Tanz der Vampire:
Still one of the best overtures I've ever heard.
Propaganda for My Fair Lady:
