Theory: The reason Ana is called Ana in the game

As a person Ana is still Ana but Soldier 76 has said that “people thought I died, part of me did” and I believe that is the part that made him Jack Morrison his caution and mercy are pretty much gone as he beats a Los Murtos member with a smoldering pinyada and became a mask vigilante.

Similar thing with Reaper (though we don’t have as many details) It’s pretty oblivious that Gabriel Reyes and Reaper are two different people if the owl mask and turning into smoke didn’t give it away. Gabriel cared about the people working for Overwatch while Reaper wants to murder all of them.

You can also say the same thing about Sombra she grew up an orphan due to the omnic crisis and when someone noticed her hacking as a young adult she deleted her identity and took on the moniker of Sombra and destroyed almost any memory of an orphaned child named Olivia, she left that part of her behind.

For other characters their code names are just code names not who they have become like Tracer,Mercy,And Doomfist. They’ve had these code names long before the game starts Ana’s is new and just a code name unlike someone like Sombra or Widowmaker who are completely different (or claim to be) from the people they were before. Basically what I’m saying is at the base level the code name Strike is new and Ana is still herself underneath the mask unlike everyone else with a code name in the game, they’ve simply had it for a long time or it symbolizes how they at least believe they are a different person from who they were.
