So here’s my tears-in-my-eyes, 6am hot take on the EU Referendum.

We have to fight for our future. We have to stand our ground and shout that we, as a generation, will not twiddle our thumbs whilst those who’ve already benefited from social democracy work to dismantle it.

The fight begins this morning. Coming down the road will be the erosion of human rights, of workers’ rights, of the welfare state and the NHS. The arts, public transport, urban renewal, social care, public justice, higher education, environmental protection and public healthcare all need people to love them and passionately defend them and lie down in front of the ideological bulldozers as they arrive.

Our generation can no longer be the next generation, it can no longer stand in the wings, politely waiting to take its place on the stage. We are the current generation and we need to keep looking out into the world. We need to witness and record the injustice and intolerance that got us to where we are. We need to hold out hope for a different future and highlight the best in humanity as well as the worst.

I want to turn inward, go back to my philosophy degree and thank my stars that I’m in a relatively privileged position to ride out post-EU Britain. I know though that if I have any morals or belief or hope then I have to be engaged in the world. I know that I have to fight.

1) Have you ever colored your hair an unusual color (meaning not blond, red, brown or black - a color people aren’t born with), and if you haven’t, would you? No, although I did once dye it black instead for brown by mistake which is quite hard to carry off in your late forties as I was then- bit late for a Goth period...I would like a green streak.....

2) Think back to childhood - what is the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up? Nurse I think. I had a nurse's outfit. When my son was in hospital earlier this year I managed to break a very expensive bed playing Star Wars with it, so perhaps just as well I didn't go that way...

3) Can you swim? Yes. Can't drive though....

4) Sweet, salty, or umami? Sweet

5) If humanity ever established a permanent outpost in space and you had the opportunity to live there, would you? No, I couldn't face the packing....

6) Somewhat related to #5, do you think there’s life on other planets? Oh I hope so.

7) What do you want for dinner tonight? Not what I just made....(pasta with green lentil and tomato sauce). I wanted trifle...

8) When it comes to clothing, do you lean more towards comfort/practicality or style/making a statement? I lean towards Helena Bonham Carter but never have the courage, so usually end up in black and mumsy...

9) What language/languages would you like to learn? French. I learned it, but not properly. Gaelic would be good too.

10) Do you have a favorite letter of the alphabet (for any reason - something it stands for, you just like the look of it, etc). B, but I don't know why. Barrow perhaps?

11) Who was your favorite cartoon character as a child? Top Cat.

I'm afraid if I stop to think of 11 questions my aunty Lydia won't get her Christmas letter which I am still writing, and I have been off tumblr too long to know who has done this so in desperation I'll just resort to rjc looking like a naughty boy who has been told off.....
