A-spec Alec Hardy

I believe Alec only feels familial and sensual attraction. It’s a little tricky to explain a-spec headcanons, since I can’t show you the absence of something but let’s try. If I remember correctly these are all the people he tries to get closer to: Tess, Rebecca Fisher, the date woman, Ellie Miller and Daisy.

One thing Alec seeks actively is familial stability. In this case living with someone long-term. That’s the reason he asks Tess if they can go back together. It might even be the reason they got together in the first place. And that’s what he’s looking for when dating. (Sadly, he happens to hate meeting people and changes in general.) He doesn’t have any kind of romantic feelings for them. A desire to have feelings, maybe.

The whole Becca Fisher incident is just Alec looking for confort, I think we’ll all agree. The lack of attraction in this scene is amazing lol. Becca herself clearly doesn't believe it a second.

I like to describe the relationship between Ellie and Alec as a partnership. Now, if I had to chose one of those attraction categories, it would be familial. I once said they’re each other’s service dog and I maintain it. It’s a partnership based on collaboration and mutual help. A lot of people would describe family that way. No desire to be with the other all the time but definitely happy to be a part of their life and to offer help when needed. Some people in the fandom call them friends and I understand why but let's be real a second. Ellie has no interest in befriending her boss or ex-boss (love her for that). She teases him, offers him food, and worry when he is dying but other than that she keeps her distance. And does Alec actually want to be friend with her or does he just want to hug her in a desperate attempt to show his affection so he can go back to grumbling? /rh
