Follow my personal journey to becoming an ever so slightly better animatior :D

I painted a bunch of my walls! starting with the wallpaper which I did this gorgeous deep green and then I painted the actual walls of the set with a base coat of white and whilst they dried I painted the store-front red - this is different from my original plan as I wanted to do it a deep green also, however I decided red would be a great way to bring more warmth to the upstairs section of the store and also after some research on colour theory I learnt that red is a very eye-catching and attractive colour so It will help to guide the audiences eye and explain Annie’s draw to the store...also I think it works quite well to parallel all of the meat and blood I’ll have present!. I did everything with a roller brush apart from the storefront which I hand-painted as I thought the strokes of the brush in the finish looked much more authentic and appealing for the store.

I was able to laser cut my sets which was epic and I designed them to have some slots so that I could slot the walls in to stand on their own as also so I can move/ remove them in-order to achieve different shots whilst filming.

So, with the lack of materials currently (they are in-transit) I have been trying to find ways to keep myself occupied in preparation for my animation. This includes things like general set building thigs, props and decorations as well as tests and forward-thinking with the design of the sets. I’m doing a lot of problem solving. In  these images there’s an experiment I did to try and make concrete mix for the cellar floor using some grey paint and some gravelly sound I found I layered it onto some wood and the result was actually very nice and hard and the colour looked good - I tried two shades of grey and I think currently I prefer the darker shade. 

The next image is some wood with some lines and measurements drawn on which I plan to cut down in the workshop as soon as it’s open to create my bar and back bar. 

Then I found this amazing intricate ceiling wallpaper leftover in my house from our decorating and I feel like it just gave me such a victorian vibe as they were very much into intricate detail in their interiors, so I would love to paint and use it!

Then I used some foam board to make stairs as I figured this would be much easier than using more wood especially as I don’t have access to the downstairs workshop everyday (it’s only open to us from wed aft to fri) so it works well as I can cut it to my specifications from my stop mo room!

Summer hw

One hot summers day, customers are lacking in the palm. Everything upstairs is rather dark and timid, but down in the cellar something menacing was about to occur. See this wasn’t just your average bar...the muted lights and cosy furniture might fool folks at first..and that’s what they hoped for. Down in the uncertain below harsh red lights flash and crop trimmers lay across the floor. As this is no normal bar, but a drug operation in disguise.

In this story there is a quiet bar that doesn’t really get much business, so to save the staffs pay checks they create a small scale drugs operation where they can sell crystal meth and marijuana under the guise of a pale ale. Will they get caught?

Scenario 1:

Maga lives in a decrepit town that’s been blown to shreds. He’s searching for a better life away from the nuked land and the ever impending threat of bandits who want your blood.

Scenario 2: it’s not easy being a mum...especially when it’s not planned. A young lady is faced with the challenge of keeping up her business career with a less than tasteful accessory on her arm..and sometimes the floor.

Scenario 3:

An empower I shed french woman dreams of having enough money to escape her life and send ransom money to her husband John pierre - the renown jewel theif’s - captures

‘Here I Crumb’, but not just yet

So far, the one minute film has been going very well and I’ve been making a lot of progress. I’ve learnt a lot especially about making each scene engaging which was one of my major setbacks, but I am consistently working toward it. As you can probably tell, the film is not here as it is incomplete (Just a few things I still need to add) and I’ve acquired a two week short extension to ensure I have enough time to submit something I will be proud of! 

I’d say one of the most difficult and time consuming aspects of this animation has been the clean-up process and colouring. I feel as though I got my initial linework done extremely quickly, but never anticipated that the finishing touches would be so lengthy.

However, I would say the most enjoyable process was the transition from my animatic to my rough animation as it was so exciting to see my work coming to life - which is one of the reasons I am so fascinated by animation!

Anyway, the film will definitely be up soon and I am extremely excited to share it with you.

Hapless Junction

This is my completed 3D animation for the title Hapless Junction!

These are some screenshots showing some of my finishing touches with my animation including me utilising the materials available in cinema 4d and using the settings menu within the material to make changes to the way it appears on my models. I have also included a preview render which gave me a lot of insight inot what my finalised animation would look like as well as a screenshot of me adding sound and transitions for my animation using premiere pro.

These are some screenshots I took throughout the modelling process where I was developing my junction. I began by creating a cube and then utilising the face selection tool and extrusion tool to extrude faces of the cube outward to create the different areas of the junction as well as the dip in the centre of the junction where I made space for another trap. Furthermore, I began crafting some items for the booby traps such as the spikes within the junction as well as familiarising myself with the different viewing options such as the side, front and top views. These different views can be extremely useful especially when you want to focus on a particular area or aspect of your object and can help you model more detailed and intricate scenes.

This is some of my research for this project. I was highly inspired by a scene in the popular game Tomb Raider where the protagonist (Lara Croft) has to evade many different booby traps and obstacles to explore the dangerous tomb. I took some screenshots from inside of the game and was able to use these images as reference throughout. One of the major influences for me was the boulder from this game as I saw it as an unavoidable terror and I thought that played in really well with the theme of my title Hapless Junction. I planned to make it a focal point in my own animation. I also have a few hotkeys I noted down toward the beginning of the project which helped me to grasp the new software a lot faster as well as a mood board which I used as reference and for research throughout the project.
