“Oh god, that was embarrassing,” she let out, covering her face with her hands for a moment before letting out a laugh. At least she didn’t scare off any other customers, she guessed. It would’ve sucked to have ruined Iris’ day with her own issues.
That wouldn’t have been very heroic of her, certainly not the kind of stuff she wanted to do as a lawyer back in Starling City. “You’re a savior, thank you,” Laurel sighed, dropping her phone in her bag once setting it into silence mode, her hand resting over the counter as her coffee was being made, “impossible more like it. Top of my class and my boss expects me to do nothing but fetch coffee and read e-mails for him— not that there’s anything wrong with making coffee or anything but… I didn’t bust my ass off years in law school to end up acting like his personal maid.”
It not only didn’t make sense, but it was downright disrespectful. And she was sure, convinced even, that he wouldn’t be making any of the new men in the building do the same thing. “But sorry— here I am babbling out my problems on and on, I’m sure you’ve got enough things to deal with of your own.”
laurel’s response has her pause in her ministrations. she leans forward for a moment, her features open and honest. ❛ you’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about. seriously. from what i heard, you’re justified for blowing up like that. i’d do the same if i were you. ❜ with that, she returns to making coffee, and grins at the lawyer’s praise. iris knows she’s good at what she does, but it’s always nice to have her skills reaffirmed from time to time.
though she remains silent as laurel airs her distaste with her boss, this doesn’t mean it’s all going in one ear and out the other. a heavy breath leaves her once the other’s done, her jaw set as she pours the espresso into the RATHER LARGE jitters mug. ❛ you’re not babbling, laurel trust me, i know babbling. ❜ by this point, she's moved onto her favourite part: the latte art. one hand holds the mug handle, the other the milk pitcher. ❛ your boss sounds like a real jerk. isn’t there anything you can do? like ask him to give you real work to do, or talk to his boss? ❜
by now, a picture is emerging atop the latte. it’s the beginnings of a leaf; fairly easy to create, but always a crowd-pleaser. iris brings the pitcher across with a practiced hand to cut through it in a flourishing finish. ❛ i don’t have as much to deal with as you do, honestly. i'm mostly dealing with crippling debt, and writing a million papers a week. such is the life of a psych major. ❜ she places the pitcher out of the way and presents the coffee before crossing her arms on the counter, eager for laurel’s verdict. ❛ here’s your latte. i know it won’t completely make up for your crappy day, but i hope it helps, even a little. ❜
