becoming the wizard was both a necessary act and something born of out greed and the need to feel important. when he had been transported to oz, oscar found himself worshipped as a great sorcerer for his unusual inventions and demeanour. the kingdom of oz had no ruler and needed guidance. as such, oscar, used to being in charge, became the wizard and the ruler of the land of oz, building the emerald city with the help of its people. soon, oscar became highly venerated by his subjects... all while trying to sustain the myth that he was a powerful wizard.

after being exposed by dorian and his friends, oz felt remorseful and vowed to become a better person. eventually becoming an apprentice of glinda herself, learning how to use actual magic instead of smoke and mirrors and stolen magical trinkets.

the scarecrow. one of the members of dorian's troupe. it felt like a lifetime ago since he'd seen the man. and well now oscar himself was a changed man; or changing, depending on how you looked at it. he had invited them to his library — with the intent to give them books to read. in order to grant them or impart unto them some knowledge. not what they’d looked specifically for when they first met but the next best thing. or so he hoped it would be. his first-given token had felt like an inadequate physical manifestation of what hewi craved and in oscar's honest opinion, already had some of.

in any case, the wizard was rather surprised they'd accepted the offer. he preened a little at the vast halls and shelves of his collection, directing hewi along. “please take any book you might want or need.” what good was a library if it went unused? perhaps this was a way he could begin to make it up to the other for his unfortunate deception. “are you looking for anything specific?”

@ozexplored location: the forest of oz

deep in the forest of oz the moon stood high, its shine illuminating everything down below, granting the entire forest this eery, mythical glow that made it look even more mystical than it usually did. but the forest wasn't safe tonight for a monster from another realm had stumbled into this one; lost & lonely, fearful & abandoned by those who brought him into this life once more.

was he a man worth a second chance most of the time, the full moon would unleash the beast hidden within him once more - ancient & broken, a rage of centuries fueling its course of destruction & the path of doom that lay in its wake. this full moon, it would appear, the great monster some would call mor'du was unleashing its fury upon trees & wildlife of oz alike.

after hours of senseless destruction, the moon was beginning to surrender to the morning sun at the horizon, but mor'du was not done yet. on its journey, it had made its way towards a certain wizard's home, roaring its loudest roar & slamming itself against a tree. again, again, again. mindless, senseless ... ruthless. the old prince may be freed from the curse, but he would never be freed from mor'du.

it was nearing the wizard's house - though without knowing that it did when ... it stopped. though not on its own accord. something . or someone ... held it. another roar, a growl & stomping, but it seemed to no avail. well, the monster wouldn't surrender, not for the longest time, thrashing in its invisible prison & for a split second it seemed it succeeded in breaking through, but ... maybe not.

the first glimmer of sunlight broke through the thick of the trees & it hit the massive bear's back, soothing warmth instantly calming the beast more & more until it collapsed on its front, breathing slowing ... as more time passed & soon, the fur would recede, gigantic claws would soon bear human hands, a dark mob of brown a golden eye was replaced by the brightest blue.

if the wizard paid attention to the man emerging from within the beast, their eyes would meet right before the man's head joined his limbs on the ground. not dead, but .. he wished he was, maybe.

ozexplored

he spent most of his days in this cabin instead of his residence in the emerald city. yes, he still craved the adoration, the thunderous roars and cheers he had been conditioned to soak up. but oscar — using his real name again still felt weird after being called oz for years, decades; even if oz could technically still be a short form of oscar — well, he preferred isolation to atone for his wrongdoings and to be left to his quiet thoughts. not to mention having somewhere where he can practice his magic without endangering anyone.

it was about early morn with the sky still pitch black when he heard a ruckus. a monster in the woods. trashing about, the noise and individual in question seemingly headed straight for his quaint little cabin. oscar had stepped out, coat over homely wear, only to spot a large black bear rampaging through the trees as it approached. hurriedly, oscar cast a spell; waved his hands about, weaving magic around an area to form a invisible barrier. the intention: to trap the beast. uncertain what to do after that, if the spell even worked... or would hold against such a massive creature. perhaps another spell to calm it down? though he knew he probably didn't have the strength for it. not when this one had took out so much from him already. not when the spell began to falter from the beast's assault once it realised it had been trapped.

paws slapped against the magic barrier, threatening its physicality, its prowess. the wards cracked under the weight, the force and pressure of the bear's fury. the wizard strained as he strengthened them, sweating as his fingers worked.

the wards held.

this was not something he had to deal with before. not in his life, not with tricks, nor with magic. then his saving grace came in the form of blessed sunlight. golden rays seemed to calm the beast. and bearish features receded to give way to a humanoid figure, one that slumped onto the grassy ground. oscar dispelled the barrier then, wary but proceeding forward towards the man on the floor anyway, catching the other's blue eyes for a split second.

he squat down, wanting to get a closer looking and checking to see if the stranger was awake. or even alive. coat shed to be draped over the beast who turned back into man, or so he would assume. he had run-ins with shifters before, a prominent one being one of a lion, but nothing quite like this. it was almost like the man had been rabid, completely feral when he'd been a bear. moon cursed to shift.

the other was naked, with a strong solid frame. with the only modesty the one that oscar himself had offered. "mister..." he nudged the man, hand going to his head, fingers on his cheek to lift it up. "you okay?"

it was too early for this. and he was tired from the lack of sleep and the amount of energy he exerted just moments prior.

god, he really needed a smoke.
