Hi, remember us? Coming from nowhere fast, or the land of Oz. It’s been a while and felt the need to post something on here to close things out. We started our Ozphoria community in 2002 - a simpler time before social media, it was all message boards, MSN Messenger, flip phones and Zwan was all the rage in Pumpkinland. Ozphoria was space to share the history of the Smashing Pumpkins, celebrate the band we love and support their future projects, while connecting to the wider amazing fan community - with a focus to be on the Australian community ‘down under’
Our goal was to have a true community vibe, mainly for Australian fans, and we achieved that. So many of the people that joined our message board and contributed are our life long friends now, to us that is the greatest gift and outcome of starting this funny little website.
In our time we did more than we could have imagined - multiple tours, radio interviews, working with the Smashing Pumpkins, organising tribute nights around Australia and so much more ... you can read through the archive or the highlights from when we turned 10 years old.
We would love to do it all again in a SP heart beat. We’ve been quiet on here for some time, we (Bree and Simon), met because of the Smashing Pumpkins via the O-Board in 2000. Just two kids about to start life, now 23 years later we have grown as people, as a couple, lived our life and now have a family. All because of this band The Smashing Pumpkins. Ozphoria as a concept still means something to us and we still are very much involved in Pumpkinland and it’s a joy to watch the band we love continue to do what they do best. When it comes to sharing news and updates, the Pumpkins team and the band themselves are doing an amazing job of that these days, plus so many other wonderful fan sites too. We are really fortunate to be in a space where we have so much news each day about the Pumpkins. Something that in 2002 was not the case at all. Thank you to everybody who supported Ozphoria over the years, I don’t know what we will do with this site but one thing is for sure ... it will never be forgotten to many of us. We’ll see you at a show some time, we’ll be bringing our daughter along these days. Simon and Bree (sunky + blue_june)
