Found the cat magazine from Chicago, and I think I was able to crack this one
Page 77 contains a lengthy reference to "operant conditioning," which is a behavioral modification based on the addition or removal of reward or punishment (you can and should read more here). B.F. Skinner was the father of operant condition and invented "The Skinner Box," an experiment where animals (rats and pigeons mainly) were isolated and reconditioned through reward or punishment, enforcing simple, repeatable responses from test subjects.
The implication alone that each show is a Skinner Box has me frothing at the mouth
