To celebrate my three year anniversary of playing bass, here is the short piece I wrote - it’s the first piece I’ve written based off of improvisation, and mostly makes use of triads

I’m very happy with how the composition turned out but mean to keep working on improving my recording abilities even more 🤘🏻

Observations after playing my new bass a bit:

The maple fretboard does seem to play faster than my rosewood fretboard

The fretboard wood may be different but it doesn’t feel terribly different under my fingers

It feels weird to play on roundwound strings again, since I’m used to flats, and they’re more noisy (eventually I want to switch them to flats but I plan to get the full use out of the strings the bass came with)

The pickups are closer to the strings so I have to avoid hitting them with my fingers on the higher strings

The sound is slightly different from my first bass, but not by much

I’ve read that bending strings can be harder on a maple fretboard but I’ve had zero problems with it

Since the fretboard has a finish on it I’m being more vigilant about wiping it down after playing

The strings still seem to be stretching out (it could be caused by weather too) so I’m still having to tweak the tuning

The shape of the neck feels somewhat different from my first bass so I’m still getting used to it

The body resonates more than my older bass too, which must come down to the body wood (poplar vs alder)

Uhh so I got my new bass except I'm pretty sure it's not truly new, since it has a dent in the finish, and scuff marks and tons of scratches on the pick guard, so I'm going to try to return it for another one 🥲

It was calling to me so I went ahead and ordered a new bass! I've always dreamed of having one that's blue and this shade is perfect

All of the issues I've had with my used bass are genuinely having me dreaming of getting a new bass so I don't have to deal with wear or problems caused by someone else

I finally got my new instrument cable and it thankfully does not hum like the old one, so it has fixed that issue, but it doesn't work right if it rotates in the jack on my bass so I assume that must be loose inside so I'll have to take the pickguard off and try fixing that, but hopefully that will be the end of these problems

It appeared the clip inside the jack was out of alignment and pushing it back seems to have fixed the issue

I spoke too soon, the flange broke off of the interior part of the jack so I'm going to have to have that part replaced 🙃

Is there anyone out there who's familiar with amp/cable problems who might know what's going on with my amp? It's vintage and solid state and has always produced a low hum (which might be normal?) but I've had on and off problems with the volume on it fluctuating, and there being intermittent fuzzy noises. Lately the hum has changed to a loud buzz, but I notice that it doesn't happen when I remove the cable from the amp. It happens regardless of whether my bass is plugged in or not, and seems like it may be either the amp or cable, since I have no other peripherals or pedals or anything.

Does this sound like it's being caused by the cable failing? The fact that the buzz is worse when the cable is plugged in and the noises/fuzz seem to vary with moving the cable suggests to me that that's it. I'm considering getting a new cable since I don't have an extra so I hope that would fix the problem. If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to get the amp serviced.

Polishing frets is somewhat annoying but the results are nice

Does anyone have any experience/suggestions regarding getting a song published? I’ve been looking into it but there’s so much detail it’s pretty overwhelming, and a lot of the information focuses on publishing a song you’ve made a recording of, but I’m just looking at publishing the written song since I don’t have a recording.
