“OH MY GOD! There is food inside? I thought we  were- I spent like an hour freaking out! How come you’re the only one who’s mentioned this? You’re like our saviour. I can’t believe- why didn’t someone mention...? It doesn’t matter. There is food. God. This is great.”

Parvati grinned at that and shook her head slightly, letting out a laugh. “You give up way too easily,” she teased in return. “You look panicked as you should. As all of us should, considering the situation. But not as panicked as some of the others do. But I promise you – I’m not panicking. I’m just frustrated. No phone service, no internet, nothing useful right now, and we’re all stuck here with strangers? Frustrating.”

“Very damn frustrating, but yeah. Thanks, Stranger. Do you know if someone has checked the roof of the building? Maybe there’s something there. Want to come with me?”

“Something better to do, out here? As if. I’m definitely up for looking. I think the laundry room was down in the basement, sheets would probably be there, yeah?”

“Same. I don’t think I’ll ever go near water  or college. This beach is getting annoying, and I’m from freaking Florida.”

So far now, it’s pretty safe to say that I will never be taking another ferry anywhere if I find a way to get off this place after the stay here ends. Should have looked into this more.

“Well, I wanna start feeding myself. Feeding myself fish. And shoelaces are a good idea, but who would bring shoelaces to a beach? Not me. And they’d need to be like super long”

It had been a hard week, one of the hardest in Pablo’s life, but he wasn’t the only one who still freaked out from time to time, which was good. It was like when he got into the correctional institution; he didn’t do much but follow orders, and that was good. If he kept himself busy, he wouldn’t think about how he might never see his mom again, or how the last thing he told his father was that he wasn’t enough. The good thing was, that the camp was a mess and he could find something to do at all times. The bad thing was that today’s main goal was finding food, and that meant fishing.

He had fun making the nets, he had fun cooking the fish and he had fun cleaning up afterwards (well, fun was exaggerating. Truth is that he found it entertaining enough to focus on it.) But his companion today was awfully quiet (not that he blamed them- the night before had been horrifying), and he didn’t really want to deal with himself. They stood there, with the net prepared to catch and the sun rising above them, for several hours. The lack of noise seemed to match their lack of noise, because just as Pablo was going to start a conversation, they caught their first fish. It was very small, but it was beautiful. “I almost feel bad for eating you, y’know?” He cooed to the fight as he placed it on the huge metallic bucket they were supposed to fill. Now that the silence was broken, he hoped his companion had better conversational skills than they let on, because it seemed the fish was louder than them.

“That’s sayin’ something, trust me. I’m pretty sure we can go back into the building and get dry there, right? Besides, we’ve still got to find a way to catch the fish.”

“Let’s go look for them, then. I mean, unless you have other things to do.”

“Is it a necessity that I look calm to be calm? Because you certainly don’t look calm either. You look more panicked than I do, I’d bet.”

“What? no! I- I’m pretty sure I look collected. I” He stuttered, sighted and realized Parvati was right. He wasn’t calm at all.He took a deep breath, rubbed his temples and rose his arms in defeat.

“I saw a little bird’s nest, we could steal its eggs. And we should try fishing, too.”

“Wow, what language is that? because I’ve been trying to identify your accent and the only thing I know about is that most people would classify it as hot.”

“But then we’d kinda freeze, I haven’t seen any towels around and it’s easier to fish when the sun is rising and stuff.”

“I don’t either. Okay, well, let’s hope we don’t have vegans among us because we’re going to rely on meaty protein at the moment.”

“Well, then what are you in charge of? because there are plenty of things to do around here that don’t include being whiny.”
