they've been arguing about malgendering on twitter so here's the truth from me, the arbiter of truth (jk but ive been talking about malgendering long before it became a popular buzzword and heres my understanding of it)
malgendering is a form of transphobia wherein a transphobic person uses their victim's correct gender to harass or demean them. it is meant to be the inverse of misgendering, where a transphobe uses the victim's incorrect gender to harass or demean them.
misgendering towards trans women can be as simple as "youre a man." but malgendering is more insidious, like someone saying "you really are a girl" when she makes a mistake in order to insult her intelligence. the phrase "you really are a girl" is positive when removed from the context of the trans woman making a mistake and the transphobe's sarcastic tone that implies shes stupid in an misogynistic way.
if a trans man does something like standing up for himself against an unfair situation or asks for better accommodations/treatment, and a transphobe wants to use that to imply he is selfish and entitled, they might say "trans men really are men" which again, is a true statement on its own. but in the context of the situation, its clear the transphobe is using the stereotypical worst qualities of men to insult and undermine someone's very identity.
malgendering can be any severity of harm, just like misgendering. my mom slipping up in the first months of my transition and accidentally calling me "she", and a bigot shouting "YOURE A WOMAN YOULL NEVER BE A MAN" at me are both examples of misgendering, but one is much worse than the other and its the same with malgendering. being told "trans men are the men of the trans community" as an insult is annoying and rude but not a big deal. however, right now ICE is torturing trans men in concentration camps by forcing them to do pointless and grueling labor. and when they become exhausted, theyre told "I thought you were a man. if youre really a man this should be easy for you" these are both examples of malgendering. one is a microaggression, the other is literal torture.
malgendering happens equally to both trans men and trans women, its not something that is unique to anyone because it is a form of transphobia. the strategy is that if a transphobe tries to make a trans persons life as their true gender so miserable and unsafe, detransitioning seems like the safer and happier option. its psychological torment, moreso than the plain and obvious insult of intentional misgendering. so dont let it happen, call it out when you see it and dont be fooled by transphobes trying to erase the context and be like "what!! what i said was true!"
This is very stupid but it’s genuinely what I think about every time I consider skipping dinner after work

Hey. Hey!
In my head, I was like "why would these moms do/indulge this?" And than I am come to the realization that most of these moms are at latest probably Gen X, earliest Millennials. These are the people who basically crafted modern-day meme culture, of course they would happily do a bit for the internet lol.
Ah, the kids are being allowed to thrive and include their parents in a bit, the world is healing.
The oldest mom whose age we know in this video is a Boomer (~1963), but yeah, most of these women are around my age, and I'm a Xennial. Do not cite the old magic, etc. etc.
Most of us old nerds would be delighted if our kids asked us to do something like this... and given the prevalence of 90s fashion right now, several of these women could probably dig their old clothes out of the back of the closet for this trend/meme. My old JNCOs got thrown out/donated several moves ago, alas.

always good to have friends who are at least 5 years older than you and friends who are at least 5 years younger than you. being the youngest person you know will make you feel like an inexperienced child who knows nothing of the world. being the oldest person you know will make you feel like the joker.
fairly reliably when someone is mean and weird to you on Tumblr, you can look on their blog and all their recent posts will be about how unhappy they are in their interpersonal relationships and/or how frustrated they are that their creative venture hasn't found success. and it's like ohhhhh okay, I get it. you're clawing at other people because you're actively drowning. my sympathies, that sucks, but I'm not a lifeguard so carry on.
Hey Tumblr.
So I have had...several medical procedures this year. Two colonoscopies...the first as a checkup for management of Crohn's disease, and the second three months later because the first found inflammation in my large intestine and the doc adjusted my meds. Second showed improvement so that's great!
I have also this year, after a Lot Of Shit, been diagnosed with endometriosis. My left ovary, in fact, is completely encysted in a 9.2 cm endometrioma. In one month and two days I am having surgery to completely remove the cyst, which will involve completely removing my left ovary. (Righty is hanging on and being a model citizen so far, no cysts at all currently.) After going back and forth with my care team and considering options, I'm going to follow their reccomendations and also undergo a hysterectomy at the same time. Right ovary can stay for now.
This, since American healthcare is a hellscape, costs money. I've done the regular measures to reduce the bills, but they're still adding up. I've maxed out my FSA already for the year and still have about $4,500 to go before I hit out of pocket maximum for my insurance for the year.
So. Any help to defray medical costs...the ones already incurred and the ones I'm about to...would be wildly appriciated.

the beauty of the world is that there are people out there having basically indistiguishable gender and sexuality experiences and one has several microlabels and an army of pride flags, one says "idk i guess im nonbinary or something" and the other is comfortably cis with a little flexibility. and all of them are correct because your identity is whatever you make of it.

why isn’t anyone allowed to be wrong anymore? it’s okay to be wrong. being wrong, and realizing you were wrong, is how you learn and grow.
People think that if they’re wrong about something that makes them morally Bad. Which leads to people being so afraid of getting something Wrong that they won’t even try to do something Right.
I got a few more questions about magic so I’m answering them here:
“What techniques do you use to practice moving your consciousness?”
The techniques I personally use are ones I learned through many different contexts, ranging from improv theater, to therapy, to Eastern philosophies, to witchcraft, to psychological manipulation. People tend to stumble across this stuff independently, and while they may call it different things, it all uses the same mechanic: You use your mind to move and change the ideas impacting your reality.
Worried about something in the future? Pantomime sticking that future scenario in an invisible bottle and putting it away.
Bored at work? Pretend you’re a little kid who’s pretending to do your job.
Don’t like the vibes of a place? Literally pick up a broom and brush the energy out the door.
As an acquaintance of mine once said, “If your problem is invisible snakes, your solution is to create an invisible mongoose.”
This does require allowing ourselves to do things we consider nonsensical, but it’s only by doing this that we gain the understanding of how magic works and that it works.
Take care though: Moving the consciousness first requires becoming aware of how it’s already moving in your immediate reality. This is gained through Mindfulness, which is the practice of observing your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and self without judgement or correction as you go about your life.
Not being aware of how your mind’s already moving means you might interpret any attempts at moving it as the work of another force (e.g. God, deities, the Devil, hexes or curse laid upon you, etc). Since moving the mind is also done through playing out stories, you’d also run the risk of not realizing you’re telling a story and might end up confusing it for reality (though generally speaking, expanding your awareness just allows you to become aware of the stories you’re already telling yourself).
Always remember that growing awareness goes hand-in-hand with learning the techniques.
“How do you discern if you’ve gained enough awareness to use a certain technique?”
This is very simple, actually: Techniques that evade your awareness will always sound very esoteric, abstract, and even poetic when described to you. You may understand bits and pieces of the explanation, but you won’t understand their meaning, and you definitely won’t “get” the overall picture. They’ll just seem highly mysterious and philosophical.
When people encounter techniques that evade their awareness, they tend to react in one of a few ways:
Their logical minds try to interpret the mysterious information to complete the picture. The conclusion will always be incorrect.
They’ll interpret this “air of mystery” as what makes magic “magic.”
Their brains will straight-up delete the information they can’t parse, so they only experience and absorb the information that makes sense.
They’ll have a very negative reaction and reject it entirely.
When a technique does exist within your realm of awareness, the way it works will be obvious to you. This knowledge will take the form of intuitive understanding, as opposed to logical reasoning. At the very least, the technique will make sense enough for you to try it, which means the intuition will come to you once you do.
“Why are things like blessings, enchantments, and intentions safer?”
These are safer because they don’t require access to greater awareness.
Awareness is a bit like vision. Some activities (like driving or skiing) require good vision to do safely because you need to be able to tell where you’re going. Other activities (like riding a bus or doodling) don’t. Sure, having good vision helps you do these better, but it’s not required in order to do them safely.
The same can be said about magic. Some magic requires the ability to course-correct based on immediate feedback, which can’t be done if you don’t have enough awareness of what your mind’s doing. Other magic doesn’t require this.
“Are [blessings, enchantments, and intentions] also forms of passive magic, a lower level of active magic, or something else entirely?”
I used “passive” and “active” as arbitrary designations. Really, the difference is whether you’re automating your magic (i.e. sending things into your expanded conscious for it to take care of in the background) or doing it manually (assuming control of the process and moving your conscious intentionally). These are just different modalities and don’t represent “higher” or “lower” forms of magic.
Plenty of magic actually uses a combination of automated and manual processes, the same way moving our body does. Additionally, advanced magic can and does use automated processes, and basic magic can and does use manual ones.
As a general rule of thumb: Anything that works through “casting/firing/releasing your intention into the universe” can be thought of as automated.
