the official blog for the pack fandom's secret santa! (damn i repeat myself way too often) that's it for this year guys! see you next year! icon and header creds go to the swag queen @mylividtoffee
well, iâm not really the one for emotional stories but i will try
itâs st. stephenâs day, boxing day or just the day after christmas today. so what a better time to write my farewell for this year?
thank you so much to everyone who participated. i know there was so much effort put into each gift by everyone. it was everyone who made this secret santa amazing, not just me. i, myself, didnt experience the excitement that comes with secret santas but i know from my close friends that this was quite the event to be looking forward to. even though there were two no-shows, everything went smoothly. in fact, most of the problems were caused from my end. the people who i have talked to knew of my worries for this. i guess i didnât have to. this just really shows how united the fandom can be. even if there were rough times in the fandom, this patchwork of beautiful fanwork shows how talented and amazing everyone is.
even if you didnât participate this year, there is always next year. letâs make this a tradition in our fandom.
i guess this is it for now. i hope everyone had a happy holiday, and if you didnât, youâre not alone. i really hope to see everyone back here next year!
Merry Christmas! I may not not to you all that often or even at all but just know I still love you and I hope you have a great Christmas and an amazing new year <3
Love, shhhh itâs a secret
This is for thesocially-awkwardturtle! I hope you enjoy this story, Sarah! Merry Christmas!!!! A Vikklan one-shot just for you!!!! Merry Fishfishfishmas to you!!! :)
I Want You to Meet⊠A Secret Santa Gift for Sarah!
A breath of relief leaves me as the door clicks shut. I rush to my laptop and turn it on. I pull up my skype and log in, hoping he would be on. I wipe the tear streaks off of my face as the screen loads. Heâs on. Perfect.
I immediately call him. One ring⊠two rings⊠three ringsâŠ
The call is accepted and a bright, cheery face pops up. His long-ish brunette hair is somewhat messy and his hazel eyes are filled to the brim with happiness. He is wearing his usual t-shirt, the custom-made shirt with a flame spewing across the black background. The sight of Preston puts a true smile to my face, but my smile slightly falters at the sight of an unfamiliar person sits next to my closest friend.
His face is of an oval shape; he has brown hair, a beard as well. He is wearing a matching t-shirt to Preston, and his brown eyes hold just as much happiness as my best friend.
âHeya Vikky! Howâs it going! This is Rob! Heâs my boyfriend, the one man who flew all the way in from Canada!â He nudges the boy next to him, who in turn nudges back and laughs nervously.
âHiâŠ!â He says as a crooked, yet charming, smile crosses his face.
âHey, Iâm sorry to seem rude, but I really need to speak with Preston alo-â
âWhoa, dude! Whatâs wrong with your face?!â Rob yells. Preston whispers something to him along the lines of that being rude until Rob points out the bruise that is no doubt starting to develop on my dark skin.
âVIK! WHAT HAPPENED?!?! DID SHE DO IT AGAIN!?!?â Preston hollers, causing Rob to get a confused look in his face.
âYeahâŠâ I say, âbut she didnât hit me in the nads this time, at least.â I finish, for some reason defending Pearl. Pearl, the girl who I call my girlfriend, yet get hit and called names by. All because I canât bring myself to make a move on her.
Preston harrumphs, âYou seriously need to break up with her.â
âI donât want to be alone!â I cry, throwing my hands in the air above me.
Rob perks up, âDude, no one deserves to be in a relationship like that. You deserve better, and you can get better.â
âItâs not that simple!â I murmur.
A long pause passes between us. The silence broke as Preston took a deep breath. âAre you doing anything this Christmas, Vik?â
âUh, not really⊠Why?â
âYou need a vacation from her. You are coming to Australia to hang out with Rob and me. Iâll get you the ticket, Iâll tell her, Iâll handle it. You just go pack.â Preston demands as a cheeky smile grows on his boyfriendâs face.
I sigh, slightly in relief. âSince I obviously donât have a say in thisâŠâ
âShoo. Iâll send you the ticket. Shoo.â He waves me off, causing me to prepare for my trip.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Having only four hours to pack was a close cut, but I made it to my seat on the plane five minutes before it takes off. A day after I arrive at my destination, Rob and Preston will join me and we will hang out.
I heave a sigh as I relax in my chair. I plug in my ear buds and enjoy my music until I am disturbed by a tapping on my shoulder. I pull one ear but out and turn around, and immediately, my breath is sucked right out of me.
Although he appears very tall, he is very, very attractive. His hair is a golden blonde, his eyes, an icy blue. A nervous smile displays across his face as he sheepishly laughs. âIâm sorry to bother you, but I have the window seat next to yours there, and I really do apologize. I hate window seats; I hate heights in general. Do you mindâŠ. switching seats with me?â
I gawk a moment; his accent⊠itâs foreign. Not British nor AmericanâŠ
I clear my throat, snapping myself back to reality. âNo. No, no, I donât mind. No, not at all!â I exclaim a little nervously myself.
âIâm Lachlan, by the way.â
âVik.â I simply state as I scoot down and he takes my seat. âSo where are you from?â
âAustralia. âComing back home from a vacation. I really enjoyed this break. The sights are extravagant. Whatâs bringing you to the wonderful land of the Aussies?â He smiles flirtatiously, and to my surprise, unlike with Pearl, I feel flustered, not uncomfortable.
âIâm getting away from⊠something⊠that I really donât want to be around, but I have to deal with. Iâm taking a break with my best friend and his boyfriend.â I smile back, hopefully sweetly and not embarrassingly.
âAh, I see. Where are your friends? Perhaps we can all go out for coffee together.â He suggests.
âTheyâre in America, sorry. They wonât be heading up until tomorrow.â I tell him.
âA coffee for you and me then.â he states like itâs no big deal.
âO-okay..â I smile softly, and he returns a smile. A smile that reaches his eyes. A more lovely smile that I had ever seen. Filled with⊠perhaps⊠adoration?
We continue to talk all the way through the plane ride about random this and thats. Lachlan even offers for me to stay at his house until Preston reaches Australia. After me asking him a million times if he was sure and he insisting yes with laughter, I accept.
We reach the terminal at nine fifty-seven. He walks me to get our bags and then out to his car, which he mentioned has been in the parking garage of the airport for almost two and a half weeks now. We go out for coffee, and he, without my consent, buys both of us our coffees with a smirk. We return to his house, and we decide to watch some anime and movies for the evening until we crash from jet lag.
Sunlight filters in through the blinds into my eyes as my cell phone rings. I pick it up groggily, picking up fragments of yesterdayâs happenings as I look around. I soon collect all of yesterdayâs memories as I look onto Lachlanâs face, the face of the man who I am currently cuddling with.
I clear my throat. âHello..?â
âHey, Vik.â Itâs Rob. âPreston and I are here, are you at the hotel?â
âUh, no⊠I uh..â I look around frantically, trying to come up with something to say. âIâm⊠with a new friend at his house..?â
âWHAT?!â Prestonâs voice could be heard in the background. âVIK, DID YOU FIND A CUTIE?!?
âSomeone who actually deserves you?â Rob continues for him.
I stop to think a moment then lower my voice. âHe is hot. Really hot. But I donât think a guy like him would go for a guy like meâŠâ
âOF COURSE HE WOULD! WHY WOULD HE INVITE YOU TO HIS HOUSE!!?!â Preston yells. Loud enough to wake up Lachlan, apparently.
âVâŠik?â He says in his morning voice, causing my face to warm up.
âSorry, Lachy.â I whisper, half covering the phone so the two canât hear me, then slowly uncovering it, knowing it wonât help anyway. âItâs my friends. Theyâre here, and obviously donât have indoor voices.â
âThatâs cool. Where do they want to meet?â
âYou⊠you want to come with me?â
âWhy of course.â He states plainly. âCoffee to actually wake me up?â He joked.
âYES!!â I hear Preston yell over the phone. âROBBIE AND I NEED COOOOFFFFFFFEEEEEEEEEE!!!â
Lachlan laughs and gets up. âGet dressed, Icky Vikky. Iâll go to my room and do the same. Then we can pick those two jags up from the airport. They obviously need coffee.â
I blush at that then make my way to my suitcase. We get dressed quickly and I check the time as we head out the door. Eight sixteen. We once again get in the car and Lachlan starts to drive back to the airport, then the questions pop into my head.
âWhy?â I whisper. I murmured it so quietly, I could barely hear it.
âHhmm?â Lachlan hums in reply.
âWhy?â I croak louder, pulling my left hand to my mouth while the other wraps around my body.
âWhy what?â
âWhy do you do this? Care for me, I mean⊠Am I really worth your time?â
The car goes eerily silent, then he pulls over to the curb and puts the car into park. He looks me dead in the face, a look of concern worry displaying on his face. âVik, who ever told you that you would not be worth someoneâs time?â
I stay silent, afraid that my vocal chords would betray me and crack.
âBecause,â the blonde continued even without my speaking, âthey are dead wrong. Do you hear me?! I swear, you are worth so much more than that.â He pauses as he brushes some of my black hair out of my eyes. âNow, I know that I donât know your life story, but I know that whoever told you that you are worthless is not someone you need to be around. Okay? I care for you because⊠youâre a sweet little thing⊠and⊠I think I love you.â
I lean in fast and kiss him right then and there. His kisses are sweet like honey and filled with more love than Pearl had ever given me her whole lifetime. After pulling apart, I whip out my phone and dial the number I now loath for the last time.
âYes babes?â Her voice is filled with lead. Sweet, but below the surface, deadly.
âWeâre done. I deserve better than you.â I state simply in a stronger voice than I had ever spoken to her in.
âWhat?â Her voice releases the venom in her soul. âAnd where do you expect to find better?â
âLachlan.â I breath out. His name like coconut on my tongue. Sweet. Exotic. Perfect.
âVik, donât do this to yourself. Do you think youâll really find anyone who will actually love you like I do?â She says.
Lachlan takes the phone from me. âActually, yes. I will love him much more than you ever could.â
âNO. I wonât let you take him from me.â
âI canât take away what you never had.â He states simply as he hands the phone back to me.
âGoodbye, and good riddance, Pearl.â I spat out her name out and hang up.
Lachlan smiles, pleased, and continues to drive to the airport. We eventually make it there, and Preston practically tackles me to the ground.
âI got rid of her.â I state simply, and he squeals.
âREALLY?!?â
âYep,â I say, feeling relieved, âbut in better newsâŠâ
Preston perks up and Robâs crooked smile widens.
ââŠI want you to meetâŠâ I say, intertwining my hand with Lachlanâs, âmy boyfriend, Lachlan.â
Tah Dah!! Thereâs your little Vikklan gift. I hope you like it!! I apologize because Iâm not super good at fluffy cute stuff, but I wanted to try to make this perfect for you! Merry Christmas friend and I hope you enjoy this little gift from me!!
âI donât know Preston, I wanted to work on our house today. Not go kill the blue guys.â I told the excited lava mob as I dug through one of my chest for building supplies. I know we had recently gotten some good gear, and now was one of the few times where less than three blue team members were on, but those two members were Rob and Vikk.
âCome on Lachy, please. Itâll just be a short 2v2 then you can go back to building. Itâll be a breeze.â Preston pleaded. I closed the chest I was looking through and looked him in the eyes. Preston was already geared out with an iron chest plate and leggings, enchanted by Pete, and had a sharp III stone sword. He was hopping from one foot to the other excitedly, and had that look in his eyes that I just couldnât say no to.
âFine,â I huffed âbut at least give me a piece or iron gear, I donât want to die.â
Preston gave an excited yelp and ran off towards Peteâs house. Before I could question what he was doing, he came back with a second set of enchanted armor. He quickly threw it at me before digging into one of his chest.
âPreston,â I questioned, âyou did not just take this from Pete, did you?â I knew Pete was annoyed when we took his first set of armor, I didnât know how heâd feel about us taking another set without asking him.
âItâs fine Lachlan, I asked Pete if we could use it. Besides, itâs not like weâre going to die with it on us⊠Oh, here it is! Lachlan you can use this sword, now come on!â And like that, I was shoved out of our house and pulled all the way to the blue side.
~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
âSo, we literally have no plan? No ideas at all Preston?â I asked him. We were hiding along the base of a little cliff on the blue teamâs island. I made sure we werenât that far from the bridge incase more blues decided to join in on the fight.
âI have one idea.â The lava mob whispered as he peered over the cliff side, scanning the area.
âWell?â I hissed, checking our exit route once more. âLetâs hear it. Iâd prefer not to run into this blind.â
Preston crouched down beside me and started drawing in the dirt. âSo, the fight is me and you verses Rob and Vikk. Even though itâs an even numbered match, and we have better gear, this might not be easy. They have powerful bows and we canât underestimate them.â He made a little house in the dirt and put an r and v next to it. He then drew a line and put an l and p by it. Finally he drew a bridge.
âOkay, so thereâs no doubt Rob and Vikk got the chat message saying weâre on their side. Most likely, theyâre waiting for us to charge there base like we usually do, but this time we arenât. Instead, Iâm going to see if I can taunt them enough to get out of their base. If I can get them to give chase, Iâm going to lead them a little south of us where the cliff isnât so steep and I can jump down it safely.â He made a small x south of us on the line that was supposed to represent the cliff where we were. âOver there, thereâs a lot of tall grass you can hide in and I can hopefully escape Rob and Vikk in. Youâll be positioned about 5 meters north of the spot Iâll be jumping from. If Rob and Vikk jump after me, I want you to shoot one of them. Hopefully, thatâll distract them enough to let me escape and, if weâre lucky, separate them. If they get separated whoever you shot will be the one we target first and take out, then we move to the other. Simple enough, right?â He inquired.
âY-yeah,â I stuttered, dumbfounded, âIâm amazed you thought this much into out attack. However, two problems. One, what if they donât jump down after you. Two, I donât have a bow.â
âI have a bow for you and if something doesnât go to plan or seems off, get to the bridge immediately. Thereâs no way weâre dying with Peteâs gear, heâll kill us. Now, letâs go kill some blues.â
~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ~Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
âWhere is he?â I hummed to myself. I was at the spot Preston directed me to be and had gotten a chat message from him saying that he made it to the blue base about ten minutes ago. I doubt itâs a ten minute run from the base to here.
Hesitantly, I climbed to the top of the ridge and peered out into the plains to see if I could see Preston or anyone coming. No one. I sighed and slid down the ridge. Guess I just have to-
Wait, someone was there. Quietly, I pressed my back against the ridge and got my bow ready. There was only one set of footsteps, that I could hear, and they seem to be moving cautiously. It could have been a mob, but I wasnât sure. âShould I head to the bridge just in case?â I wondered.
Before I could move, the footsteps stopped and something landed on my back. âGah!â I cried out as I collapsed to the ground.
âWhat are you doing over here little Lachy? This is the blue side.â A voice from above me asked. My heart fluttered at the sound of his voice, a voice Iâd know anywhere. Vikk.
âItâs not like I wanted to come Vikky, Preston made me.â I whined, âNow can you get off me please? In promise Iâll leave immediately.â
âOh, why leave so soon? Itâs not often we get alone time on this server and I want to spend every minute I can with my boyfriend.â Vikk got off my back and sat next to me.
I sat up and pulled Vikk into my lap. âIf you wanted alone time all you had to do was askâ I purred in his hear. I felt him tense up and smirked. Vikk was so cute when he was embarrassed. I didnât even have to look at him to know his face was a deep crimson.
Vikk let out a sigh and leaned into me. âYou know how hard that is. The only place we could meet is spawn and thatâs pretty far away for both of us.â He turned in my lap so he was facing me. âAnd I donât know about you, but itâs pretty hard to get away from my teammates.â He started running his hand through my hair and let out a sigh.
âYeah.â I muttered and snuggled my face into the side of his neck. I let out a little hmm as Vikkâs fingers ran through my hair, it felt nice. I squeezed him tighter and started rubbing circles on his back. I wanted this moment to last forever, but that couldnât happen in a server made for pvp.
âLachlan letâs go home! Theyâre not at their base.â Prestonâs voice called. It sounded like he was close.
âDang.â I muttered to Vikk before letting him go. Quietly he grabbed up all his stuff and started to sneak away. Suddenly he turned back and placed a small kiss on the cheek. âMaybe next time.â He whispered.
âLachlan!â Preston yelled.
âIâm coming you jag!â I hollered back before climbing up the ridge. When I got up there I saw Preston. His hair was all messed up it looked like he was out of breath.
âWhat happened to you?â I asked.
âMe? Oh nothing, just âŠâ Preston blushed slightly âMobs, yeah, mobs⊠What about you? Your hairâs all messed up.â
âI, um, had a spider jump on my back and attack me.â I lied, feeling my face heat up. âAnyway, letâs go back. I want to work on our house.â
(ok so this is a little poofless winter themed gift for the secret santa, so, well, i hope you enjoy!!)
âCâmon, Preston, it will be fun, trust me!!â Rob tugged at the younger male, begging him to go ice skating with him on one of the lakes a few minutes from his snowy apartment in Canada. He thought it would be a good way for them to calm themselves after sleepless hours of pre-recorded videos to post while they were on their mini âvacationâ before the ski trip. Plus, Rob just wanted to spend more time with his best friend, who was basically his brother, or his âdadâ, according to their fans. The last one was kind of odd, but it was hilarious to Preston, as he called everyone âdadâ or âdaddyâ.
On the other side of the couch, Preston just wanted to stay home and cuddle with Rob; ice skating, or sports at all, were not something he enjoyed. The Texan would rather stay home and have a âOne Pieceâ marathon in all honesty. He let out a deep sigh and responded with a, ânoâ once again, for what felt like the millionth time. Rob had been begging him since 7:00AM, when he was shaken awake by him screaming in his ear. Very pleasant. Now that they thought about it, they had been arguing about this, back and forth constantly, for almost an hour. The duo had always been very indecisive, though, and terrible at deciding what they should do in their alone time. They could barely decide on what kind of coffee to make in the espresso machine, let alone anything more complex than a simple drink.
âThe weather is perfect for it outsideânot too cold, not too hotâand there is a lake down the road that is most likely frozen. If not, the walk will be worth it, trust me. Please Preston, can we at least go check it out? And, besides, you chose what we did last night, so can we please go ice skating?â He let out one last sigh, and, surprisingly, agreed to go with the Canadian, who now had a grin that seemed to be plastered to his face.
âOk, Iâll go with you to go do stupid exercise. But first, you need to get me a cappuccino. Pronto, right now, go!â Preston pointed his finger to the kitchen, and Rob ran off to the destination, not wanting to blow away his shot at Preston actually, willingly, going with him to do something that requires physical effort. That would remain as a first, and last, most likely, in Robâs imaginary book.
He turned on the machine and made the cappuccino just how Preston liked it, black, otherwise known as plain, strong coffee. Luckily, it took the least amount of effort; no sugar, no sweetener, no cream, just the nice milky foam over the top. Preston adored that, as long as it was made perfectly.
Rob walked back over, carefully, to the latter, and placed the mug in front of him on the table. Although he felt proud that he actually made a successful cappuccino, the smile that grew on Prestonâs face made him even more ecstatic. He quickly sipped down the drink, slamming the mug on the table when it was empty.
âThat,â Preston declared, âwas the most delicious cappuccino to ever exist! Thank you so much Rob!â He jumped up with glee and wrapped his arms around Robâs neck, squeezing him tightly; neither of them wanted to let go, both just wanted to stay like that forever. It was so cold outside, but having each other in their embrace warmed them both a ton.
âNow, letâs get to ice skating, you nerd!â Preston and Rob threw on their coats, hats, and shoes, and grabbed two pairs of ice skates from the tens and hundreds in Robâs garage. They trudged out and into the woods, the lake they were heading to right on the other side.
The forest, at that time in the morning, was super peaceful; the snow crackling under their feet, the birds chirping, the occasional snow falling off the branches, it was all perfect. The two walked hand-in-hand, taking in all of the silence around them as it neared the hectic and crazed holiday season; having a break from stressful and annoying endeavors felt like a weight taken off of their shoulders.
Finally, the trees began to clear into a field, where, across the sheet of snow and ice, was the long-awaited lake. Rob gasped in excitement.
âOh my god there it is. Iâll race ya!â Rob went to go take off, but his shoe sunk deep into the snow, causing him to trip and fall on his face. Preston was not far behind though; he started laughing so hard that he did not pay attention to where he was going, and stepped right into the hole that caused Rob to fall in the first place.
âOh my god, Rob, youâre so stupid!â Preston gasped out between breaths, still laughing so hard that his chest began to hurt.
âI wouldnât be talking, considering youâre the one who tripped over the hole where I fell,â Rob stood up, brushing the snow off of him, missing all of the snow on his face.
âOh my god, dad, you missed some!â Preston wiped all of the snow off of his own body, and proceeded to wipe the remaining snow off of the taller one as they walked over to the taller one.
âWait, Rob, I know this is a stupid question, but do you meet up to Canadian stereotypes in the aspect that youâre good at ice skating?â It was a stupid question indeed, but he had been dying to know for the longest time now.
âWell,â Rob shot the other a devilish smirk, âwanna see?â He began to make his way through the snow, a determined look glued on his face, with his skates in hand. As he neared the lake, without fallingâsurprisingly enoughâhe sat down in the snow to put on his skates. Preston was still making his way over to watch, his phone in hand, ready to record when Rob fell, as a best friend would. Rob slipped on the blades as fast as humanly possible, grabbing Prestonâs arm to help himself up.
âNow,â Rob wrinkled his eyebrows, âwatch this skill closely, because it can never be reciprocated by anyone else. Only I, the pro skater, can ever perform this.â He stepped on the ice, almost losing his balance a few times, but eventually having a steady stance. Preston was filming, not wanting to miss a second of this.
âHere we go!â The Canadian slid his feet across the surface of the lake, left foot after right, and so forth. He was soon gliding across the ice like a plane in the air. His hands went up in the air out of excitement. He felt as though he was a kid again, Rob hadnât skated since he played hockey, which was at least 10 years ago.
âLook, Preston, no hands!â Rob began to crack up laughing, and, before he knew it, he fell butt-first on the ice. The other maleâs laughter echoed across the lake.
âI told you, Robert, and I got that on video. I have proof!â He ran in circles with his phone, stopping occasionally to jump with excitement. Finally, Rob was back on the snow, sliding his shoes off with a sigh of relief.
âWell, that didnât go as planned, but it was hilarious though,â he grabbed Prestonâs hand to stand up and caught his balance on a non-slippery surface. Surprisingly enough, he did so without falling.
âNow, câmon, Robert, letâs head back to the house,â Preston giggled, âwe can have an anime marathon, like I suggested in the first place. Oh, and I owe you a cappuccino for the one you made me this morning. Do we have a deal or what?â
âAlright,â Rob exhaled deeply, âwe have a deal.â His grip tightened on the otherâs hand as they walked back to the house. The only thing different than when they arrived was the fact that they finally agreed on something, and Preston had some pretty hilarious footage to replay over and over again for his own amusement. Well, maybe heâd share it with more people, but Rob didnât have to know that. Anyways, the only thing they both knew for a fact was that they cared deeply for each other, and nothing would change that.

Small Handful of Paradise

To any strange observer, the house Vik and Lachlan shared held some unusual features. One of those being: why did Vik have a normal, but Lachlan a king sized bed? The answer to that and to most of the other questions too (except for the excessive amount of professional electronic devices and the fact that there werenât two clocks showing the same time in the entire home) was because when they bought the house, it was already mostly furnished and why would someone throw out a perfectly fine bed just to waste money on a new one? Exactly. So, Vik took the room with the average bed, gladly grabbing the opportunity to tease his best friend for his long legs, lanky figure and for moving around way too much in his sleep. And fairly enough, even with his bed being twice as large as the otherâs, Lachlan still rather frequently found himself colliding with the floor when he was supposed to be sleeping soundly.
âHey!â, Vik yelped, his voice abruptly jumping up a few octaves. He adjusted his arms, doing his best to hold his friend down. The two were lying on Lachlanâs bed, the owner of the room rested across the mattress with his legs dangling over the edge and, just moments before, his attention focused on his phone. The other was sprawled comfortably on the sheets, using the blond maleâs stomach as a perfect place to rest his head - up until Lachlan tried moving from under him.
âCome on! Let me get up!â, Lachlan complained back, unable to keep the chuckle from his voice.
âNuuu, youâre my pillow now. Pillows donât move.â, came the response, muffled by Vik burying his face into the otherâs shirt. He raised his hand, patting Lachlanâs chest disorientedly and mumbling further incoherent words about immobile cushions, making his friend giggle probably unintentionally. âPillows donât laugh either.â, he added, almost seeming offended as he turned his head to the side, blinking up at Lachlan.
âAlright, mate, but Iâm not a pillow.â
âYes, you are now. You are my pillow.â, Vik nuzzled his face back into his friendâs stomach, hugging him tighter around the waist and making him let a few more giggles loose.
âGod damn it, when I said we could cuddle I didnât mean you not letting me do anything else.â, he was hoping that by exaggerating, he could win but all he accomplished was Vik completely ignoring his comment and trying to tease him by blowing hot air onto his skin through his shirt and making small âpffffhmpfâ sounds instead.
That eventually (as in, a few seconds later), caused Lachlan to start squirming with laughter. Not only was he ticklish and did Vikâs antics feel weird (but also familiar, as he had done it plenty of times before) but his childishness was amusing too.
âSto-o-op it!â, the blond giggled loudly, but to no avail. âVik, this is no-ot a good i-i-idea, Iâll end up ki-icking you in the fa-aceâŠ!â
To that, the other boy raised his head, staring at Lachlanâs previously flailing legs before looking back up at him, asking a simple question. âHow?â
âOh, come on, why do you always have to make your statements anatomically correct?â
âNo, Lachlan, the question is why do you never do that?â, Vik snickered, still holding his âvictimâ tightly around the waist.
âFor f-âŠI just wanted to get a drink, thatâs all!â, he burst out.
âOhâ, his friend quieted suddenly. âyou should have just said that.â, he stated, sitting up and leaving the other to freely escape. Though he looked indifferent, or even a bit remorseful, Lachlan wasnât fooled - long years of friendship taught him to recognise that small glint of mischief and joy that could never be flawlessly hidden behind those deep mocha eyes.
âSo I can leave now?â, Lachlan smiled curiously. He only received a short nod in response, Vik blinking slowly and sitting back on his calves, looking almost akin to a cautious meerkat. The other chuckled, petting the mop of naturally dishevelled black hair atop the shorter boyâs head absent-mindedly after getting up. âLook, I know youâre gonna âattackâ me as soon as I return anyway.â, he was perfectly aware of Vikâs ways and rules during these sessions that swung from cuddling to playfighting and back to cuddling peacefully again.
After a few minutes of lazily poking the cartoonish birds covering the duvet (when they went shopping for sheets, they had an agreement to not buy any boring, plain white ones), Vikâs attention was drawn away again by the door opening. Turning to look (and falling square on his butt in the process), he saw his friend entering holding two large glasses, one of which was containing some kind of fizzy drink and the other something orange-yellow. Lachlan handed the latter to the male on his bed, sitting next to him right after, careful not to spill his own beverage.
Vik gazed at the other curiously before bringing the glass up to his face, cautiously sticking the tip of his tongue into the substance. He wouldnât have put it past Lachlan to give him some horrid tasting thing to prank him, watch him down it in a few gulps anticipating something nice. However, his features lit up with a large smile when he tasted mango juice - his favourite. He let out a tiny, happy squeak at the delightful surprise and, ignoring Lachlanâs giggles, downed almost half of the half litre glass in the matter of seconds. After that, he sat back more comfortably, licking his lips as a silent thank-you for the treat.
ââŠand I wasnât even thirsty. Thanks, though.â, he grinned.
âWelcome.â, Lachlan hummed, taking a sip of his own soda. âPlus you donât drink enough anyway.â
âOi, when did you turn into my mum?â, the other teased, laughing.
âNever? Not like Iâm gonna say sorry for looking out for you.â, it wasnât a particularly funny comment, yet after a few seconds of glancing at each other, both boys started laughing. When that passed, Lachlan raised his glass to his lips again, just to be stopped by his friend speaking up.
âGreat, now youâre gonna be burping all over the place again.â, Vik visibly bit the tip of his tongue, which didnât really help his grin, while waiting for the reaction.
âThat only happens after youâve been jumping on my stomach, mate.â, Lachlan shrugged, acting indifferent.
Vik gulped, suddenly remembering an occasion not so long ago when they were both jumping on each other, wrestling and laughing loudly like complete idiots - except then it wasnât 7up or Kinley or Canada Dry or whatever Lachlan was drinking at that moment but a few bottles of cider and bear. It was still fun though.
âYou just made that up.â, Vik countered.
âOh, really? You think so?â, trying to be as sassy as possible, Lachlan tilted his head.
âYes.â
âWell, Iâm not the one who said I have a shitty imaginationâŠâ, his grin spread even wider.
âThis doesnât take imagination, Power.â, Vik furrowed his brow in mock seriousness.
âWhatever you say.â, he shrugged, taking another sip of his drink while still keeping an eye on his friend. âDo you have a better imagination then?â
âPfft, of course I do.â
âProve it then.â, he shot back, somehow taking Vik off guard.
âWhat? How?â, he squinted, completely forgotten about his drink.
âGood question.â, Lachlan took his time to finish his soda, placing the empty glass down on his nightstand. âTell me a tale. But I mean, make one up.â
âWhat? A tale?â, suddenly, he chuckled. âDoes little Lachy want a bedtime story?â
âYes!â, Lachlan answered without even thinking about it, his eyes lighting up. âTell me a story, Vikky!â
At that, Vik burst out laughing - he didnât quite expect the request to be serious. âLachlan, itâs 1pm, itâs not time for bedtime stories!â, the fact that also, they were both 20-year-old grown men didnât even cross his mind.
"Yeah, and? Weâre on a bed, so itâs a bedtime story.â, Lachlan stated in response, moving to lie down properly, with his head on his pillow. âCome on, Vikky, I want my bedtime story!â
Vik snickered and, understanding he had no way to back out, placed his drink down, then crawled up next to his friend and lay on his back. âAnd then what? You want to go to sleep at 1 in the afternoon?â
âWell, duh, thatâs what you do after a bedtime story, Vikky. You sleep.â, he claimed matter-of-factly.
âYouâre such a kid.â, the other giggled. âAlright, and do I have to sleep with you too?â
âYes.â
âBut why? Iâm the one telling the tale.â
âBecause I said so. You tell me a story and then you cuddle and sleep with me.â, Lachlan declared, strictly leaving no room for objections. He started moving around, obviously trying to find the most comfortable position for listening to his bedtime story and eventually settling with his head nestled on Vikâs chest.
âMay I start now?â, Vik asked, chuckle evident in his voice, petting his friendâs golden locks.
âYep.â, he closed his eyes happily.
âOkay then. So, once upon a timeâŠâ

âDo we really have to go?â
âItâs the entire pack babe, how often do we meet?â
âButâŠwhat if they find out about us?â
âThey wonât, I promise.â
Letting out a sigh, Lachlan reluctantly let Mitch lead him to the car.
âThese are going to be the worst few hours of my life.â
âWeâre with the boys though, so I guess it makes it better,â Mitch murmured softly.
âAny time I canât have you in my arms is hell,â Lachlan replied. A roseate tint covered Mitchâs pale cheeks.
âCome on babe, weâre going to be late.â
â
Pulling up to the house, Mitch cast a side way glance at Lachlan.
âYou ready, babe-I mean, Lachlan?â
âAs ready as you are.â
Both boys stepped out of the car, Mitch locking it and sliding the key into his pocket. Lachlan knocked on the wooden door.
âFinally! Took you both long enough!â The door swung open to reveal Jerome, wearing an ugly Christmas sweater and his favourite penguin hat.
âSorry about that, biggums. How did the honeymoon go?â Mitch replied.
âReally well, so now weâre just settling into the new house. Come on in!â
The duo removed their shoes and stepped in, Lachlan shutting the door behind him.
âRob, Preston and Vikk are already in the movie room. Louise is spending the night with some of her friends, so weâll have the house to ourselves,â Jerome explained as he led the way up the stairs.
Pushing the door open, he loudly announced, âThe whole pack is here!â
Cheers rose from the other three in the room as Mitch and Lachlan entered, Lachlan waving and Mitch tilting his head in greeting. Rob and Preston gestured for Mitch to join them on the couch, while Lachlan took a seat on the floor, wedging himself between Vikk and Jerome. Mitch and Lachlan turned their attention to the others in the room, carefully keeping their glances away from each other.
âAnyone wants to watch a movie?â Preston tossed the question out, everyone immediately agreeing. Jerome stood up and grabbed his laptop, flicking through the movies on Netflix.
âAny suggestions?â Jerome asked. Catching on to Mitchâs pointed look, he added, âBesides Hunger Games?â
âJames Bond?â Vikk suggested, but Rob shook his head.
âWhat about The Notebook?â He counteed Vikkâs suggestion. Preston rolled his eyes.
âYouâre so basic, Robert.â
âSays the most basic of us all! Whoâs the one who loves Starbucks with all his heart?â Rob joked, Preston lightly punching Robâs arm, opening his mouth to make a sassy retort.
âAny other suggestions?â Jerome cut Preston off before he and Rob could start a full blown argument. When no one argued, Jerome shrugged.
âThe Notebook it is then. Everyone, squeeze on the couch!â
Lachlan and Vikk stood up and headed to the couch, the other three moving closer to each other to provide more space for them. Due to the small size of the couch, Lachlan found himself pressed up against his boyfriend-which he wouldnât mind in any other case, except for the fact that it took too much self control not to put his arm around his boyfriend.
Next to him, Mitch wasnât having the best time of his life either. The crook of Lachlanâs neck was tempting him, to lay his head down.
The movie started playing, the boys turning their focus on the screen. Mitch gritted his teeth and glared at the screen.
/Focus, goddamn it!/ He willed himself, trying to lose himself in the movie. It wasnât working though. He could feel every fibre reaching out to Lachlan.
Time seemed to tick torturously slow for Lachlan. Leaning against the back of the couch, all his focus was on the brown haired Canadian he called his boyfriend. Closing his eyes, he imagined the feeling of Mitch pressed up against him. The messy hair, lively eyes and sly grin of hi-
âI SHIP IT!â
A shout interrupted Lachlanâs thoughts, his eyes snapping open.
/Since when did they get up?/
Standing in front of him was Rob, Preston, Jerome and Vikk. They were staring at Lachlan with huge grins on their faces.
/Wait, what?/
He suddenly became aware of the body leaning on him. Looking to his right, he realized his arm was curled around a sleeping Mitchâs shoulders. Fear hit him and he snatched his arm away, secretly wanting to put it back in the same position.
âWhatâs going on?â Mitchâs sleepy voice interrupted his thoughts.
âYou both are so cute together!â Rob squealed. Lachlan felt his face redden. He opened his mouth, ready to retort, but Mitch beat him to it.
âOh please, Iâm not even gay. Sorry to crush your fantasies.â Mitch replied with a smirk. Lachlan could see the nervousness in his eyes, and hoped the boys wouldnât notice it.
Thankfully, they seemed to believe it, Vikk casting one suspicious glance at them before shrugging.
âIf you say so then. Shall we play truth or dare?â Vikk asked, getting replies of nods and answers of âyesâ.
Getting off the couch, the six boys sat in a circle, Jerome grabbing an unopened bottle of beer from the stash laying at the corner of the room and setting it in the middle.
âGet me one of those too!â Mitch called out, Jerome acquiescing and passing the former a bottle.
Rob spun the bottle, with it stopping with its cap pointing at Vikk.
âSo, Preston, truth or dare?â
âIâd usually go for dare, but this time, truth.â
âWow, pussy,â Lachlan stage-whispered, earning a laugh from all but Preston, whom replied with a middle finger.
âFine. Preston, tell us about a time when you were drunk.â
Prestonâs cheeks instantly flushed red. Jerome noticed and pointed at him.
âLooks like the pleb has a story to tell!â
âShut up you, I only accidentally threw up on a girl after making out with herâŠâ
The room erupted in laughter, Rob slapping Prestonâs shoulder.
âNow we all know why you canât get a girl!â
âShut up, you piece of flowery shit!â Preston retorted, his face burning.
âWhat did you just say?â
âBreak it up, y'all! Preston, spin the bottle!â Mitch cut the two off, the two of them mock-glaring at each other before Preston spun the bottle.
âJeez, y'all fight like a married couple,â Jerome commented, earning an unamused chuckle from Rob.
âLachlan, truth or dare? And I swear if you say truth, youâre the biggest hypocrite I know.â
âI was going to pick dare anyway, Preston,â Lachlan smirked. Rob stood up.
âBe right back, need to get something,â he said, casting a meaningful glance at Preston. The latter seemed to have gotten whatever telepathic message the former had sent, nodding with a cheeky smirk on his face.
âUh oh, I donât really like whatâs going on. Preston, what did you plan with Rob?â Lachlan asked warily.
Preston didnât reply for a few moments. Finally, he opened his mouth.
âLook up.â
Lachlan looked up, the expression on his face reflecting his horror. Jerome tried to control his laughter, Vikk looked shocked and Mitch wanted to strangle Preston.
Lo and behold, a piece of mistletoe dangled between Vikk and Lachlan, Rob holding it with a satisfied smirk.
âWell, what about some Vikklan action?â Preston chuckled.
Vikk seemed too shocked to say anything while Lachlan prepared to object-
âNo.â
Mitch cut all of them off with a stern no. Evidently surprised by Mitchâs sudden shift in mood, Jerome tilted his head.
âWhatâs wrong with a little fun, Mitch?â
âYeah, come on, donât be a spoilsport!â Preston chimed in.
âI said, no.â Mitchâs expression reflected his barely controlled anger.
âIs there a specific reason?â Rob asked, curiosity in his voice. Mitch just shook his head.
âIn that case, may Vikk and Lachlan kindly kis-â
Without warning, Mitch grabbed Lachlan and kissed him aggressively. Quickly breaking apart, he snarled.
âBecause heâs fucking mine, got it?â
Silence.
Jerome was the first to break the silence. âJeez Mitch, how long?â
âWaitâŠso youâre okay with it?â Lachlan interjected, the others hurriedly nodding their heads. Mitch exhaled.
âSix months. We were just afraid you were homophobic,â Mitch replied, evidently relieved.
âI suspected it!â Vikk shouted, the others chuckling.
âYeah, you looked like you knew something just now at the movies.â Lachlan replied.
âNow, shall we get back to the game?â Mitch suggested.
âBefore that, can I say how cute you both are together?â Rob squealed.
Mitch answered with a chuckle. âI think you already did, just now.â
âWait, Mitch, I thought you said you werenât gay?â Preston interjected.
âI never said I wasnât bisexual, right?â
âCheeky bastard. Anyway, back to the game!â
As Lachlan leaned forward to spin the bottle, Mitch rested his head on the Australianâs shoulder.
âIâm so glad I can openly cuddle with you.â
âMe too.â
â
fin.
Hereâs some Vikklan Christmasâhope you enjoy!!
How is one supposed to celebrate the winter holidays?
Buy gifts for your family, they say. Spread the merry joy and cheer. Spend time with the ones you love.
Oh, how Lachlan wished that was possible. Yes, gifts could be mailed on cargo planes, loving messages and conversations shared through cell phones, but the comfort and homeliness that came only from having your beloved by your side? That wasnât merely around the corner.
For Lachlan, in fact, it was exactly nine thousand, five hundred, and twenty-six miles away.
He and Vik has started dating close to three years ago, and none of those years had included visits for Christmas or New Yearâs. Lachlan was usually invited to spend a week or two with his family, and Vik tried to see his own if the London weather wasnât too rough. Each time December rolled around, however, Lachlan fantasized over what it would be like to spend it with his boyfriend for once.
â
Coming up with ideas for Christmas presents always proves to be much more difficult than it should be.
Youâre supposed to know your family better than anyone elseâtheir interests, their hobbies, their sweater sizesâbut Vik found himself drawing a complete blank when it came to gift shopping. Would his brother like new headphones or a football calendar? Would his mother prefer a dark brown quilt or a pastel-blue tea kettle? All the little details seemed so petty and insignificant, but Vik loved his family and truly wanted them to appreciate whatever he bought. Still, he couldnât seem to decide on a present for anyoneâand he hadnât even started thinking about something for his boyfriend yet.
To be honest, he wasnât sure that he could even think of something remotely close to worthy for Lachlan.
Lachlan was the kind of boyfriend who is so loving, so kind-hearted, and so perfect that nothing money could buy would ever be enough to constitute what he truly deserved. Yeah, he could send him a box of British sweets, or a jumper he would look adorable in, or even one of those giant teddy bearsâand Lachlan, in his usual cheerful demeanor, would say wholeheartedly that he absolutely loved itâbut to Vik, it still wouldnât be adequate.
A material gift was always an option, but Vik wanted to give something that would actually mean something. Perhaps there was another wayâŠ
â
Five days before Christmas, Lachlan still hadnât finished shopping, either.
His family was easy. His parents, brother, and sisters each had their own unique hobbies and interests that could easily be turned into a presentâsports equipment, books, kitchen tools, and more were all purchased within the first two weeks of December and then wrapped and stored away for when they would be needed. Vik, on the other hand, made Lachlanâs buying experience nearly impossible.
It wasnât that he was greedy or pickyâjust the opposite, in fact. Vik, being his sweet self, would appreciate just about anything Lachlan bought him, but that wasnât the point. He wanted to give him something that actually meant something, something that would last.
Frustrated with the issue at hand and exhausted from a two-hour recording session, Lachlan buried his head in his hands and let out a long sigh that no one was around to hear.
No one around to hear, he remarked bitterly to himself, because my boyfriend lives on the other side of the damn world.
Heâd give all the money in the world to be with Vik at that moment. Heck, forget store-bought knick-knacks wrapped in festive paper and donned with shiny bows; all he wanted for Christmas was his little Vikky, curled up by his side on the couch, some stupid romantic holiday comedy playing in the background.
Cue Mariah Careyâs hit Christmas carol rudely intruding his thoughts.
I donât want a lot for Christmas, this is all Iâm asking forâŠI just want to see my baby, standing right outside my doorâŠ
Great. Even if he was unsure about everything else, at least Lachlan knew exactly which obnoxious song would be stuck on a loop in his head for the next eight months.
He found himself humming aloud one of the verses. I just want you here tonight, holding onto me so tightâŠwhat more can I do?
Wait. Maybe, just maybe, there was something he could try⊠â
Vik wasnât having much luck at the store.
He still couldnât decide on anything for his family. Aisles had been walked down numerous times, countless shelves of all sorts of things browsed, but still nothing stood out to him as special enough. More brainstorming and patience would be required.
He did, however, hold an idea in the back of his mind for a certain blue-eyed Australianâbut that was put on hold for the moment.
Sighing in defeat, he was about to exit the department store and return home for an evening recording session when something small and shiny caught his eye.
It was a miniature, desk-sized Christmas tree, made of gold tinsel that somehow didnât look cheap but rather caught the light in a joyous way, and donned with crystal-blue snowflake ornaments that swayed on their threads as he walked past and stopped in his tracks.
It reminded him of someoneâthe way the golden tinsel glowed so cheerfully and the icy decorations sparkled like fresh snow. The idea seemed terribly cheesy and pathetic, considering it was just a piece of dollar-store decor, but Vik was heartsick, and the colors had a striking similarity to the boy he loved.
Why not? he thought, carefully picking it up and bringing it over to the register. Sure, it was stupid, but the time and distance between Lachlan and him was more so, and he left that shop with his plastic tree taking comfort in its familiarity.
When he arrived home, he placed it near his computer, just underneath the window where the reflected sunlight made the contrasting blue and gold sparkle. It was actually decent-looking for something so simple and inexpensive. Smiling slightly at the childishness of it all, Vik pulled out his phone, snapped a picture, and sent it to the reason he bought it in the first place.
Hey, Lachy. This little tree reminded me of youâsilly, isnât it? I think I miss you too much.
â
It was past midnight when Lachlan received the text, but he was still awake anyways, so it didnât disturb himâinstead, it caused the fondness and love he felt for Vik grow in his heart and brought a smile to his face.
The past few nights he had found it increasingly difficult to fall asleep, and it wasnât because of holiday excitement. The distance between himself and his beloved felt more maximized than ever this time of year with all the talk of âfamily timeâ and âspending the holidays with your loved ones.â That was easy for some, but he and Vik each had obligations to their own relativesâ traveling overseas for the holidays would mean one or both of them shamefully denying those invitations.
Fortunately, at that moment, cell phones existed, and Lachlan had one in his hand. Lying in bed, unable to rest, he decided to give Vik a call.
He answered straightaway. âHey, Lachy.â
âHello,â Lachlan greeted. From the other side, he thought, mentally cursing Adele for ruining all future phone conversations. Now, more than ever, though, his life felt like a similarly-staged music video.
Vik sighed. âMe too.â He hesitated for a moment. âHey, I was thinkingâŠâ He then faltered. âActually, um, never mind. Forget I said anything.â
âWhat?â Lachlan asked, a smile growing on his face. âC'mon, Vikky, you canât just leave me hanging like that.â
âCuriosity killed the cat.â âViiiiik.â
âSorry, Lachy. I almost just spoiled your Christmas present.â
At the mention of present, Lachlan fell silent. So Vik had something picked out for him alreadyâ something he was obviously excited aboutâwhereas Lachlan had nothing, nothing except for that nagging little idea at the back of his mind.
âIâve actually got to go record some videos,â Vik announced, interrupting his thoughts. âIâll call you back later though, okay?â
âOkay,â Lachlan agreed.
Right then and there, he decided to push away all doubts and fears and just go with his gut. â
The idea came to him during the phone call.
Vik had been just about to tell Lachlan about his ridiculous planâask his parents if it was okay to miss their annual Christmas celebration, buy a plane ticket to Australia, and spend the holidays with Lachlan. It sounded great on its own, but that was when a second thought occurred to himâwhat if he made it a surprise?
He could picture it nowâwaiting in front of an unsuspecting Lachlanâs house, the look of shock on his face when he opens the doorâŠit would all be perfect, like something out of a Christmas movie.
And here he was two days later, at the airport, luggage in hand.
â
As soon as his plane landed, Lachlan knew he was going to be terribly jet lagged.
The previous day, after calling his family, apologizing for the late notice, and then receiving encouragement from them for his plan, he had been excited out of his mind, euphoria at the thought of seeing Vik in person occupying every sense. But now, in hindsight, he realized that he had forgotten one important factor of flying into a timezone thatâs six hours behind his own.
He wasnât even sure what time of dayâor nightâit was when he stepped into the airportâall he knew was he needed coffee. Badly.
His eyes darted around the crowded terminal until they finally landed on a familiar green logoâ Starbucks. Automatically drawn in by the thought of caffeine, he began stumbling towards the little shop.
â
Knowing he still had a half hour before he needed to board the plane, Vik decided to grab a coffee. The Starbucks line didnât look too bad, and besides, he would regret it later if he didnât consume something substantial.
As he was heading over, somethingâsomeoneâcrashed into him from behind. âSorry!â
He whirled around and found himself face-to-face withâ
âLachlan?â
Blue eyes shot up and looked directly into his. âWait, what?â âLachlan, whyâŠhowâŠâ
Both jaws were dropped and stares locked onto each other as the pair tried to fathom what was going on.
âIâŠI just flew here to see you,â Lachlan said slowly, as if he was a computer experiencing a spurt of lag. âBut youâre already hereâŠâ
Suddenly Vik burst into a fit of giggles, coming to terms with their situation. âI was just going to fly to Australia to see you!â
He watched as the realization dawned on Lachlanâs face. âWaitâŠso it was going to be a surprise?â he asked.
âYes!â Vik replied, still unable to contain his laughter. âAnd Iâm guessing thatâs what you were planning, too?â
And then they were wrapped in each otherâs arms, able to experience their shared warmth and comfort for the first time in months. Both felt happier than ever, enjoying the love and protection as if the world outside didnât exist. They wouldâve stayed that way forever had Lachlan not pulled back for a moment, only to close the distance once again with a kiss.
Sometimes Christmas miracles do happen, Vik decided. He was going to be spending the holidays with the one he loved mostâand that was the greatest gift he could have ever received.Â
