I certainly get why the lack of addressing Bentham´s behaviour in Alabasta can leave a bad taste, but to me it was another of multiple instances where Luffy is either naive or open -depending on the pov- to a person. He did it with Vivi (when she still was Miss Wednesday) and Nico Robin who he let join without knowing anything about them or their true moral compass. And yes Vivi didnt actually do sth terrible and NR had very solid reasons for everything she did but just like NR Bentham might have good reasons or at the very least realised that he should repent since he saved the other BW agents from getting captured even though he had no personal connection to them. Also perhaps his goal right now supports the theory of him repenting but more to that later in the arc
