my mental health
okay so hereâs a thought I had last night: maybe itâs not that my depression is giving me anxiety. maybe my anxiety is causing my depression.
itâs a subtle distinction but this literally changes everything.
every time I do one of those âmental health checkupsâ I get told I have âsevere anxietyâ. that always surprises me because I donât see myself as an anxious person. itâs only just occurring to me that maybe Iâve had anxiety problems literally my whole life and never actually realised because this is my normal.
maybe I actually have an anxiety disorder and just never known, and thatâs what keeps tearing me down and eating me up inside and holding me back in life.
I have no conclusions to draw here and Iâm not even sure why Iâm posting this. I guess I just wanted to keep a note for myself.
The Optimistâs Creed
1. To be so strong and resilient that nothing will destroy your peace of mind. 2. To offer love, hope and acceptance to every person you meet. 3. To make all your friends feel they are special and valuable. 4. To always look on the bright side of life, and to always believe that you will get there in the end! 5. To always think the best, hope for the best, and believe the best. 6. To be happy when things go well for others. 7. To forgive both yourself and others, to put the past behind you, to welcome each new day as a fresh opportunity. 8. To greet the world with a smile, and to choose to look for the positives. 9. To focus on your growth and self-development development, instead of criticising others and looking for their flaws. 10. To be committed to living a rich, full and meaningful life.
EXTREME REAL MAN POWER FOR MAN MANLY NOT WOMAN MANÂ
just ten manly calories
i dont wanna start a fight, but sometimes you come off as awfully rude and you're a bit classist at times. anytime anybody asks about things for mental stuff you seem to get almost hostile and ask them to "see a professional" and nothing else, not even any little happy charms or anything even though these people might not be able to get to a professional. ive seen some people write asks who seem very distressed and you seem to reply with "magic cant help you here get your shit together" sorry.
Unfollow me. I REFUSE to offer medical advice for people who are suffering from medical issues. Your âhappy charmsâ are not going to work for someone who is suffering from a mental illness, and it is irresponsible to offer this sort of advice on a witchcraft blog. Please tell me where I have used the words âmagic cant help you here get your shit togetherâ, link it to me. Indeed, I have informed people that magic cannot cure a mental illness or magic should not be a substitute for medical issues. I AM NOT A DOCTOR. Witches cannot diagnose, treat or advise on medical issues, anon. We do not carry licenses. Just because someone canât afford to see a professional DOES NOT give us the right to act as a substitute. Get YOUR shit together.Â
Dude, what the fuck is with anons lately. I am so sick of this shit. If you donât coddle people and actually speak the truth and snap them back to reality, they get very offended and indignant.Â
Seriously this is so important. One of the symptoms that goes with a LOT of mental health issues is AVOIDANCE. Offering up substitutes for professional help like âhappy charmsâ is LITERALLY ENABLING DESTRUCTIVE SYMPTOMS because it gives people the idea that they donât need professional help when actually they really, really do.
I felt like making some halloween-inspired icons! c: theyâre a bit silly, but feel free to use them if you like them! ;v;

The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation.
Kate Chopin, The Awakening (via seabois)
On being a Witch.
I saw a post the other day that rankled me a little. Itâs taken some time to flesh out my thoughts, but here it goes. In essence, the post was celebrating witchcraft for itâs freedom and non-dogmatic religious approach, as if the absence of dogma or some religious ruling body exempts practitioners of witchcraft from any responsibility to or for their actions.
That really bothered me.
You see, practicing the Craft doesnât mean that you are less responsible for your imprint on this world. You are more responsible. Correct, we do not have dogmatic faith system. Even if youâre Wiccan, âAn Harm Noneâ can be interpreted in a number of ways to cover all manner of sins. But hereâs the thing â you are answerable to a power greater than that of a Christian God or one of His religious rulers on Earth. You are Witch. You are One with the Earth, the Universe, and the Divine, and you are beholden to them, for they are the source of your power. From this Earth you were born and to it you shall return, and if that doesnât make you responsible for the ways in which you manipulate Her energies to your own design, I donât know what else does.
Does being a Witch mean that there are fewer rules to follow? Perhaps. There is no stone list of commandments, no massive out-dated tome from which we may source guidance. We answer to Powers that supercede all the man-made attempts to articulate the rule of the Divine â but that is not because we are âbetterâ or âmore freeâ. It is because we are closer to the source and directly influenced by it. Directly influenced, and directly answerable. There are no intermediaries between us and our Gods, but so too there are no boundaries, no safeguards, and no religious henchmen to forgive us our trespasses or our broken promises. Itâs just you, and the Divine, who exist within and around you. Perhaps you are more free in a sense, but by turn, you are more tightly bound to Their will.
A seasoned Witch knows that spellcraft is not her first course of action in any problem, but rather a last resort. She knows that tapping into that power and manipulating it to her will is going to have a precise and unpredictable cost. That should not be taken lightly. Only a fool would wade into those waters, taking what they can from the Powers that Be, with no consideration of what they will have to give back. The balance will be maintained, whether you like it or not. Still think the Craft is whimsical and free?
To be Witch is to appreciate the dark alongside the light, knowing that neither could exist without the other. To walk this path is to understand the necessity of maintaining the balance, and to revere it. To know, to dare, to will, and to be silent. To journey on with humility and grace. Forget that for one moment, and the Universe will eventually exact a price from you.
Be good, little Witches. You carry a heavier burden than you may have realized.Â
I vehemently disagree with almost all of this. Witchcraft is not inherently religious in any way. You can be an atheist and practice witchcraft.
Let me repeat that. Witchcraft is not a religious practice.
It can be combined with a religious practice but it does not have to be combined with any kind of religious activity or belief.
Plenty of witches donât believe in your âPowers that Beâ. Plenty of witches DO use magic as their first course of action. Plenty of witches donât give two shits about your âbalanceâ that has to be maintained because to them there is no balance to them.Â
And their practices are all valid. They are all acceptable, they are all real and they are all legitimate ways to practice the craft. Areligious witchcraft is a valid form of witchcraft.
Stop sweeping areligious witches under the rug. They exist, theyâre important and they contribute a lot to our communal spaces.
Agree with intrepidcrowÂ
Witchcraft is a spiritual practice, so it can greatly vary. There are many traditions within it. There are witch cults (as in cultus), more secular practices, and all in between.
Certainly, I have my own opinions as to what Witchcraft is. But one thing is true, it has no one rule. It never will. This doesnât make it any better or worse than any other practice. Rather, it places all the responsibility on the witch. The witch determines their limits, their codes, their oaths, their consequences. Nothing can rule over such a craft as this, for it is truly wicked and merely follows the nature of the world. Following such a craft does not free me from the consequences of my actions, but places the ultimate determining factor on myself. I have nothing to blame but myself.
No witch can rule over another, for another cannot determine what is right for the other. We can only follow our own way as we pave it out. All of them crooked~Â
Ultimately, every witch must answer to themselves, and thatâs the long and short of it.

In quite interested in sea magic but I don't live near the sea do you think I could substitute water mixed with salt for actual sea water like as some kind of representation of symbol of actual sea water
Hi there ~Â
I dont think so, since sea water has a lot more than just salt and water in it, and the properties wouldnât be the same at all. But if youâre using it as a symbol or to represent something, that would be fine. But using it in spells is a no. Let me know if you any other questions, Iâd be happy to answer them. Have a lovely day!
No! This is not true! You absolutely CAN use water that youâve put sea salt in as a replacement for sea water when youâre landlocked! I always suggest using some sort of natural water (from a lake or river) when doing it.Â
Like seriously⌠this is magic⌠the entire thing is based off of intentâŚ
You shouldnât get carried away and think just throwing some table salt in some tap water is okay, because thatâs not gonna work. However, doing a ritual, calling on some sea deities (if you work with any), calling on the sea and such to infuse the energy into your self made salt water will make it work just as well.
Please do not discourage landlocked people from doing what they can to participate in sea magic. It is something anyone can do, with a bit of tweaking and work.
By my reckoning, you can substitute rain water for sea water, since itâs all part of the cycle.
I wouldnât personally use tap water as itâs so sterile that I feel next to nothing from it, magically speaking.
He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.
