Important otp question: who would stand on a chair during an argument

❋
They’re in Tony’s hotel room, have been for a while. Pepper’s on babysitting duty, making sure Tony behaves himself for the rest of the night and Tony’s behaving, lolling next to Pepper while he practices on the couch, listening to the muted sound of the un-amped bass. Pepper’s not a partier and gets this job a lot more than Tony’d care to admit. But he knows if he’d taste liquor on Pepper’s lips too if he… Maybe it’s because it’s the first time they’ve been genuinely alone together in three weeks. Maybe it’s the alcohol. Or the coke, if he’s being honest. Maybe it’s the way Pepper’s mouth quirks to one side when he plays, dark reddish eyebrows knit together in an easy concentration. Tony catches Pepper’s hand on the neck of the bass, stilling it and Pepper stops. Tony meets his green eyed gaze, feeling something spark in his chest as he leans in, presses a kiss to Pepper’s pouting lower lip, letting his teeth sink into the soft skin there briefly before pulling back, eyes darting from Pepper’s mouth up to his eyes again.
Pepper's drunk, though not so drunk that he's unable to look after Tony. Clint always gives him a guilty look right before slinking off with her groupie of the night, but Pepper really doesn't mind. Tony's a little physically affectionate (a little clingy) when he's drunk, and that's worse when he's had other drugs as well (which he has tonight, but Pepper's trying not to think about it) but it's not so bad. Pepper can practice on his bass, calm down from being on stage, and sometimes even wheedle conversation out of Tony.
Tonight Tony's mostly been quiet, but then he rests his hand over Pepper's on the neck of the base. Pepper thinks maybe Tony's going to correct his fingering, but when they make eye contact something is different. Tony kisses him.
It's —
It's —
"Wow," says Pepper. His head is kind of spinning. It's not the alcohol.

"Really?" Tony asked. "I loved legos when I was a kid… have you ever been to Legoland? I always wanted to go but never did make it." He loved finding out personal things about Miss Potts, those little moments when they were friends instead of just boss and employee.
"My parents mostly prefer staycations," says Pepper, shaking her head. "I can hardly ever get either of them to take a train down from Connecticut and visit me here, thank God."

Tony freezes. He doesn’t mean to; in a perfect world, he would have continued like the information was trivial because, well, for the most part it was but… “You’ve never— Really?” he says when he remembers where his lungs are. He feels like knowing that should turn him on more, but it doesn’t; now he’s just nervous. Well. More nervous. “Okay.” He smiles and presses a kiss to her mouth. “If you wanna stop just— just say something.” He wishes his voice sounded a little less trembly. She was the virgin, apparently, not him. But, god, it’s Pepper and she wants him.
Tony kisses her, and he tries to sound positive but — but he doesn't sound happy. Well, of course he wouldn't be into virginity. Tony was probably used to girls who knew what they were doing, and Pepper's heard that the first time is always disappointing.
"No, I'm not going to want to stop," Pepper says. She toys with the collar of his shirt and doesn't look at him, god, she's glad it's dark because this is mortifying and her face is basically on fire, "I just... if I'm bad, I just want you to know why?" It's a tentative statement, since she's pretty sure if she sucks at sex knowing why won't actually make it more enjoyable.
//somehow while not posting for like three weeks i got a few new followers. hello new friends. old friends. hypothetically, i've crawled out from under the pressure of starting the semester enough to be here a little more regularly.
I don’t have anyone, but you.
The Benefits of Being Snowed In || Tony
"He, uh—" Tony clears his throat and sticks his hands in his pockets. "It’s no go. Sorry." He smirks humorlessly, looking her up and down. There’s no question she’s lovely, gorgeous even, but… It doesn’t feel like that. Not with her. His eyes travel over her half packed suitcase and her clothes laid out on her bed. They’d probably have to double up rooms soon, if nothing else.
"You wanna get a drink? Since we’ll be here a while." It’s a shot in the dark; for all he knows, she’ll tell him to screw off and go sit in the resort hot tub by herself. Which, honestly, between him and a hot tub, he’d pick the latter any day of the week. "Weather report says two days at least."
Pepper rubs her face with her hands. It's frustrating news, but she was expecting it. 'Two days at least' really means 'four days except for emergencies,' and though Pepper is sure that Tony has enough money and pull that he gets to say what is and isn't an emergency, Pepper doesn't actually want to plan on risking her life, Tony's life, and the life of Tony's pilot just to get back to Connecticut in the middle of Christmas day.
"Well, we can't drink for two days straight, but I suppose that's something to do for now," Pepper says. Her lips quirk. "I'd better call my mom, though, and tell her I'm ruining Christmas."
Frankly, it's a little exciting to think of a quiet Christmas without her mother turning over every part of Pepper's life, looking for something to disapprove of. Sure, the phone call is going to be horrific, but afterwards there's alcohol and Tony's company to look forward to, assuming Tony doesn't abandon her immediately for some other woman in the hotel bar.
Sick Day || imjustthemechanic
Jenna had told Tony and Miss Potts was taking a sick day, so Tony was reluctant to bother her - but the meeting was still on the schedule. He gathered up the things he’d been working on, and also found the package of tumeric and ginger tea his landlady had given to him last time he had a cold. Then he wondered if maybe he should make it look like a social call, so he stopped to get her some flowers as well. With those in hand, he took the elevator up tot he penthouse level and reached to ring the bell - then had second thoughts and got out his phone instead.
"JANIS?" he said. "Is Miss Potts awake?"
I will ask, JANIS replied. Miss Potts? Tony is here.
Afghan over her legs, tablet resting on her lap, Pepper wakes up to JANIS's soft tones telling her that Tony is here. The sun is much lower than it was when Pepper sat down. Her tablet is asleep. The half-full cup of tea on the coffee table is definitely stone cold, the tea in the teapot as well. Pepper feels fuzzy-headed and slow, like the couch is slowly eating her.
She smiles, though, thinking about her meeting with Tony. It's not going to be the most productive meeting she's ever had with him, but it will be almost like having a friend visit.
"Please let him in," Pepper says. She sits up a little on the couch, leaning on the arm rest and rubbing her face with a yawn. At least her head doesn't hurt anymore, but Pepper can tell if she tries to stand the whole room will tilt and slide like a carnival ride.

"I didn’t— Me too," he says, following her as she moves farther into the room. "I didn’t know you’d want this— I mean I wanted you to want this but—” He stops when the hand holding hers brushes against something soft, maybe a duvet or a quilt and suddenly this feels very, very real. Tony swallows, pulling back a little and trying to see her in the darkness of the room. The gray nighttime light from the window catches the curve of her jaw, her neck, turning her collarbone into a patchwork of positive and negative space. He can see one curl of her hair, almost brown in the dark, resting like a little coiled snake against her shoulder.
I didn’t think someone like you would wait for someone like me. He wants to say it, but instead kisses her neck, his free hand pinching the curl on her shoulder between his fingers and brushing it behind her back. “Pepper,” he breathes against her skin, feeling as though all the words he had for her had jumbled together into just her name, her nickname, the one he gave her over a year ago.
She can only just barely see him, mostly just the shine of his eyes as he looks up at her but also the soft white fold of the collar of his shirt and the way his lips shine a little from all the kissing they've been doing.
Tony says - Tony says - he basically says he knew from the start that she probably wouldn't want to have sex, but hoped she would. And this, basically, is why Pepper has to go through with it: to prove that she can, and that she likes Tony, and to prove that she really does want to, even though she's never done it before.
"I want this," she says again, when he says her name, because saying it makes her feel it. She adds, before she can stop herself, "And I'm lucky my first time gets to be with you."

Her room, even though it’s dark, smells like her and he kisses her again as soon as he’s past the threshold, closing the heavy door behind him, the kiss escalating more quickly this time. His tongue flicks against her upper lip, her teeth, and one of his hands buries itself in her hair.
He wants this, of fucking course he does, but he’s getting mixed messages from her. She’s nervous and he doesn’t know why; she kissed him just now, downstairs, pushed him up against the wall— He groans against her mouth at even the memory of her body against his like that and breaks the kiss.
"You okay?" he breathes into the welcoming, Pepper-scented darkness. "Sorry, I’m just— Excited." He cringes after the words leave his mouth but he doesn’t take them back, just squeezes her hand in his.
Tony groans into her mouth like just this kiss is enough to turn him on, and Pepper wonders if that's true. She wonders how much he likes her, if he's really as serious about this as she thinks he is. She wonders if that's even possible, can Tony Stark even be serious about a relationship, and if he could, would he really choose her?
"No, me too," Pepper says. "I've been... waiting for this." She squeezes his had back, because that's reassuring (because who would have guessed that Tony Stark likes holding hands?) and hopes he does not hear that she is also scared. Pepper wants to be fearless, just this once, as she steps back into the room towards her bed, which is hip height and made neatly, narrow and squeezed between her dresser and her desk.

Tony follows her skirt up the stairs, hand still in hers, grinning slightly but still chewing his lip. He wants her, wants this but… It’s Pepper. His best friend, his classmate, his best friend… He presses his nose into the back of her neck as he waits for her to open the door, the petrichor smell of her skin only confirming for him that he wants this so badly.
"Pepper," he murmurs after a few seconds, quietly in the darkness. "If you don’t want— this— it’s fine. I can— I can go."
Tony's nose presses into her neck, his breath brushing over the mostly-bare skin of her back. Pepper wants to back out and doesn't want to back out. She wants Tony to come in but she doesn't know if she wants to have sex.
The last and only serious boyfriend she had was in high school. He broke up with her because he was ready for sex and she wasn't and Pepper knows that Tony is better than that but she still shakes her head and says, "No, come in," as she finally fits the key into the lock of her door and pushes it open.

Tony shivers against her, feeling more nervous about her than he has in years. “You too,” he says, clearing his throat and standing up straighter, pressing his chest to hers. “I want you too.” He kisses her mouth again, chastely, before kissing her jaw, her neck before pulling away and raising an eyebrow at her, grinning. “After you,” he murmurs, jerking his chin toward the stairs, dropping his hands from her sides to tangle his fingers in hers.
Pepper is nervous, too, but not about to back out now. She does her best not to cling to his hand when he laces their fingers together, to only hold it tight enough to make sure he'll follow her up the stairs and not so tight that she will give away her nerves.
She lives on the second floor, in a double with Maria Hill, and it seems to take forever to get there. With every step, Pepper is worried that she will lose her nerve, or that Tony will think better of doing this with her - that Tony will somehow finally guess that she's never done this before, and think better of being her first. Pepper fumbles in her purse for the keys to her room, when they get to her door. The sign on her door says MARIA AND VIRGINIA. One of the girls from down the hall has left a note on their white board, almost illegible. The longer they stand outside the more Pepper worries someone will see them, because it seems to her that the moment someone else observes this happening everything will probably be ruined. Pepper is so, so nervous, and she is not floating anymore. She doesn't know if she should have had more to drink or less. Both, maybe.

"I thought—" he breaks off, swallowing, breathing heavy. "I thought you wouldn’t want this… Whatever this is.” He brushes his top lip against her full bottom lip, eyes fluttering to look at her in the partial darkness. He runs his hands over her sides, fingers almost trembling against her dress. “Do you…” He trailed off, glancing up to hint at upstairs but not directly asking, instead choosing to kiss her chin.
"I want you," Pepper says. Her hand slides slowly from the back of Tony's head to cup his jaw, smoothing her thumb over his cheek, brushing the well-kept outline of his facial hair. Her other hand rests at the base of his neck, on his shoulder, where she steadies herself because she isn't used to heels but this dress had seemed to call for them and she's a little drunker than she intended to be and so very thankful that Maria arranged to sleep elsewhere when she saw what Pepper was wearing for her date.

Tony drops his head back against the wall and a whine escapes his through, brows furrowing as he closes his eyes. He’s been trying so hard to take it slow, to show her how good he could be, what a good boyfriend he is. “God—” he says, opening his eyes and leaning in to kiss her again. “I need it too.”
He kisses her and it feels like the whole world is spinning and floating. This is their fifth date, six if she counts that first night they got drinks, and if Pepper hadn't had three strong drinks she'd never have brought this up like this, but here they are, and Tony is kissing her again more hungrily than he's kissed her in ever before. When they break the kiss her hand is still cupping the back of his head, not quite managing to tangle in the short and bristly hair there. A little dazed, Pepper has to ask, "Well, then why didn't you say anything about it?" even though she would actually rather keep kissing Tony until he takes her up to her dorm room and gets rid of her virginity than question his motives.

Tony chuckled. ”I’ll buy you a Ken doll,” he offered. ”It’ll be the same thing - dress it up and can’t take it anywhere, and it’ll cost way less.”
"Oh, no, I've always been more of a lego fan." Pepper shakes her head, smile still curving her lips. "And we just thought of a place I could take you, didn't we? Ken can't stick out his pinky finger."
