thinking about what karl and red’s relationship would’ve been like when rachel was still around. i feel like red probably would’ve been so appalled at karl playing violin, and even more shocked at him learning it from a human. he probably gave karl little lectures on why this was a bad idea, but it probably went through one ear and out the other—so he kept going with it and improving at a surprisingly fast rate.

i also like to imagine that after awhile, karl would go to red and drag him off somewhere private to let him listen to his playing as a way to check if he sounded ok before rachel came. and also to just show off and be annoying on purpose, but mostly to check how he sounded. red would act really annoyed and dismissive at first, but would quietly admit that karl has improved a lot. maybe not on the same level as the human girl he loved to be around so much, but good enough for a statue who wasn’t even meant to do anything like play the violin.

it’s been on my mind for some time now but i really wonder how the other park residents felt about karl learning to play the violin. a lot of them probably had more important things to worry and couldn’t care less to make a big deal over one of their own learning an instrument, but there were probably some others who reallyyyy disproved of what karl was getting up to. we know next to nothing about pirate’s island and the “captain” character that red mentions, but i doubt any of them would be thrilled at what he was doing. that being said i can totally see red sticking up for karl if anybody tried to start anything.

makes me wonder how red and others who knew karl prior to the incident feel about him still playing the violin in his own time. i don’t think anyone would be foolish enough to try to stop him at that point since he’s known to be feared figure within the park, but i feel like red might say something about it briefly before deciding to just not press him for anything. like karl already went through a lot at this point; red might not have approved of him getting so close a human in the first place, but he probably thought “let him have this, he’s been through enough.”
