Bubble Art! {Marty & Lisa}

  Marty smiled happily at her reaction, glad she was so supportive. He hugged her back tightly as she hugged him. “I’m so happy you’re okay with this.” He said, Tepig smiling up at them. “It just means so much to me that I can finally be myself around at least some one.” He told her.

"You’re actually the first person I’ve told." Marty told her, scratching the back of his head. At the moment, she was the first and only person to know his secret. "And that’s why I told you. Because I trust you to keep this a secret until I’m ready to come out myself."

"Marty, okay I would be honored to keep your secret. But...how long can you go with hiding this? I mean bravo for going your whole life...err how long have you known really I guess?" She bit her lip, "anyway I don't want to diminish how big of a step this is I just don't want you to feel like you have to hide who you are. After all whether or not you show it, it's okay but I just feel things will just be better if are open about it." She ruffled his hair a bit, "sorry I ramble, trying to say all the serious words of advice I can muster I suppose." She gave a half hearted smile and awaited his reaction.

A Holiday Curiosity

  Every year around this time Lisa had been fed the same old same story by her parents. That Santa delivered his presents with the help of flying Stantler and Delibird was his right hand man, err right hand Pokémon. The Safari zone was chalked full of Stantler and Delibird if you knew where to look. And unluckily for Lisa and her Squirtle they had no idea where to look. "Squirtle the pine forest bordering the ice tundra would be the perfect place to look for both right?" She looked down at her bubbly buddy.

He nodded at her then went back at looking through his Safari Zone goggles, aka putting his chubby turtle-like hands to his eyes and rounding them. It was super goofy and adorable and made her feel ten times better. "Squirtle there! A stantler!" Her plan was to catch one and try to teach it fly or, well she hadn't thought that far. Dashing after it with Squirtle in toe she saw someone from the academy by her. "Oh hey! Long time no chat you're coming too!" With that she dragged them along by the collar or hair. She wasn't sure the adrenaline was pumping it was game time!

  "Well, they’ve had plenty of time to become friends." Clover smiled as she looked down at her Pokémon, "Teacher’s assistant." She shrugged, "A lot of the others have more than me, but these three are all I need."

"Well that's just fine. After all I am sure quality over quantity could come into play when training pokemon!" Lisa smiled at her, "what courses do you teach or help with here? I am looking for an interesting art class or something creative to take after winter break."

Bubble Art! {Maria & Lisa Scott}

  "I can definitely tell. I’ve never heard of bubble art before but seems interesting" Maria observed, looking at the girl and her pokemon which happened to be that of a water pokemon. Charmander didn’t do so great around other pokemon in general; water pokemon wasn’t going to be any better. Maria chuckled nervously when the other girl talked to her pokemon about Charmander’s flame. "No, it’s totally fine. Charmander just isn’t very… friendly when it comes to pokemon" she said with a shrug, watching how Charmander wasn’t dancing in turn with Squirtle and instead giving it a deadly glare, eyes squinted and nose scrunched up. 

"Sounds like a good idea" she pointed out, sitting down against he brick wall with her arms crossed. It didn’t take long for her fire pokemon to decide to climb on her lap and continue to glare at the opposite pokemon. "Can I watch?"

"Yeah sure! Okay Squirtle stakes are lined up let's show them our bubble powers!" Squirtle puffed it's cheeks up real big and gave a playful wink to Charmander. "Squirt!! tell!"

With that a series of normal looking clearish blue bubbles burst from Squirtle's mouth, as they passed through the stake holes they morphed in color. Bue, red, orange, purple, green, they mixed and blended creating new colors. "Wow, how magical!" Lisa exclaimed. As per Squirtle's last bubble she lifted him up and spun him around. "Great job buddy, I am so proud. Still fuming with energy he let loose a few foamy bubbles from his mouth as a devilish grin escaped him. "Okay, that is a little disgusting. But all in the love of art she laughed."

She looked at her rainbow delight of colors and walked over to it. "Oh how neat, it's like a rainbow exploded. And look! Oh wow Squirtle there are circles and crescent shapes from your bubbles. I love it even more!" She looked at Maria and Charmander, "a present for our new friends!" She grinned and tilted her head at them, now to seal this new friendship with a battle!"

  "Listen. I need to tell you something important." Marty said, sighing a little as Lisa went on about Pokemon. He knew all that, and he knew Tepig would be learning Ember real soon, but Pokemon was one of the last things he wanted to talk about at the moment. He just wanted to get off his chest that which he’d been hiding from everyone for the last few months. 

Just saying it was gonna take a lot of courage and he really hoped he had it in him. He hadn’t told anyone yet, not even his own cousin, but he was really close to Lisa, so he knew he could do it. 

"I think I’m gay." He said quietly, barely audible to those around him.

Lisa could tell that something had changed in Marty's mood and he tensed up. He was like a Metapod on a super mega level of harden. Marty was never this serious, he was usually a light hearted goofball. She wondered what was wrong but her word vomit got ahead of her and he was the first person she had seen since she had learned all of her new pokemon information.

"Oh, well that's nice. And you're funny, and you're blonde, and you sing, and you have sparkly twinkly eyes when you get a good idea or do something nice for someone." She put her paint supplies down and went in for a tight hug. "My point is, that that isn't the only thing you are." She tilted her head and smiled, a little tear weltering up in her eye. "It is a beautiful part of you as is everything else I mentioned and so much more...you are so much more than that."

She nodded and sighed deeply. "I do imagine that is a mighty weight to get off your shoulders, I am so grateful and proud of you for telling me, that means so much." She went in for another tight hug and peck on the cheek. "Who else have you told, if you don't mind me asking?"

Journal entry #1

Dear Journal,

Today at the academy I couldn't help but miss home a bit. I always get a little more sentimental around the holidays. I am so excited to go home for a few weeks, but the little time I have spent here has been incredible! Squirtle and I have had such a fun time here and gotten even closer. I hope mom hasn't missed me too much and Jolteon, Skitty, Purugly, and Meowth back at home. But they can keep each other company and we will be back shortly! For Christmas I hope all the friends I have met here and yet to meet to have a fun time at home for the break! Oh,when they come back to have much fun and learn lots!

It was always funny to watch Clover’s Tepig trying to crawl his tiny little legs over a hurdle. That was the one thing that always stopped him winning their races; his little legs. He couldn’t keep up purely because they didn’t carry him as far as the others. Her pokémon all crowded around her as they reached her, Flareon rubbing against her leg like a particularly happy cat. Clover scooped the Tepig up into her arms before she heard the footsteps of someone nearby.

She had no idea there was someone watching them, though Clover really should’ve expected it. There they were, out in the open, and running around like that was bound to catch someone’s attention. She looked over at the girl, smiling brightly. It was hard to be anything but happy when she was having afternoons like that with her pokémon. Nothing could bring her down when they were having fun. She shook the offered hand, “I’m Clover. This is Flareon, Growlithe, and my Tepig. It’s nice to meet you.” She watched as her Flareon danced around the Squirtle, laughing, “She likes to make new friends, too.”

"Oh nice to meet you!" Lisa looked at Squirtle and Flareon, "all of your pokemon seem very cheerful and get along with each other great!" She did a head count, "you have three pokemon...does that mean you are an instructor or staff member of some kind?" She watched the woman as she tried to figure her out.

Pondside Venture

Lisa with Squirtle in toe walked along the grassland beside the pond. "Okay Squirtle, I don't want you to be some battle loving brute...but I want us to be strong together. I feel training is in order but in our own artistic battle style. Besides that I want to see what pokemon lurk nearby in the grasslands!" She turned back to her partner who happily nodded. She smiled back and gave him a gentle pat on the head. Just then she heard a rustling in the tall grass. "Who's there?! Show yourselves!" She had never encountered a wild pokemon, let alone in battle. Her blood was boiling with anticipation.

  Marty hugged her back, smiling. “It’s great to see you too.” He said, smiling brightly back at her. “It’s okay. I actually just wanted to talk.” He said, handing the ‘bubble stix’ back to his friend. “Besides, I’m not great with visual arts. Performing arts is more my thing and you know it.” He took the piece of silver metal anyway. “Huh. This is a nice piece of metal, though. I’m sure I can find some kind of use for it. A good polish would be in order, though.” He said, setting it on the ground and sitting next to, Tepig crawling into his lap. “Besides, Tepig doesn’t know Ember yet either. He’s a little too preoccupied with food instead of training.”

"Pig?" The Pokemon said at the mention of food. Marty laughed and rubbed his head. "Not now, hon."

"Oh okay, well another time maybe..." Lisa put the sticks back in her bag. "Well what did you wanna talk about? Enjoying the school so far?" She turned back to Marty and sat down across from him. Sitting Squirtle in her lap, and her art out of her mind for a moment she prepped herself mentally for chit chat.

She liked seeing her old friend and the bond he had with Tepig. "You and Tepig are really close, surprised you didn't get any training in before you came here though. I was so nervous, Squirtle and I trained non-stop. According to some research I did most starters gain their first special ability in just a few levels. So I am sure Tepig will learn ember real, real soon!" She smiled at her friend. "Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a nerdy know-it-all..." She smirked and swiped a strand of hair behind her hair.

The morning sun was finally starting to catch up with them. The mountains in the distance that seemed to form a sacred barrier around the school were illuminated by the peeking sun's rays. A flock of pidgey awoke in a nearby tree and started to make their rounds of looking for food. A Caterpie wondered by and soon it seemed that nature all around them and the campus itself became a buzz. The world was finally starting to wake up.

Bubble Art! {Maria & Lisa Scott}

Lisa propped up the large blank canvas against the school’s cool brick. It was early in the morning and an hour and a half before breakfast would be served. Her favorite time to knock some art out of the way. “Aww, perfect.” She grinned at the canvas as she closed one eye and framed it with her two hands interlocking with fingers in an ‘L’ shape. Together they made an oblong rectangle that she twisted and contorted as she weaved her head back and forth, trying to find the perfect angle for her masterpiece.

She took a few steps back, “perfect, now next part.” She mumbled to herself as she happily pulled five slender stakes out of her art supply satchel. They were five colors: red, blue, orange, yellow, and lavender. Each with a rounded hollow circle at the opposite end of the stakes’ points. “Okay Squirtle rise and shine we got art to do my watta brotha!” With that there was a flash of light and her tiny turtle partner emerged.

Startled Lisa got the pricks on the back of her neck, someone was coming. She cautiously turned and hoped she wasn’t busted for being up early, or painting outside, or she had not idea really what for but the silent emergence of any guest she supposed just spooked her. She turned toward the figure, “oh hi! Didn’t think anyone else would be up this early.” She smiled with eyes clenched so tight they looked more like tiny slits upon her face. She scratched the back of her head as if rummaging through her tangled jungle of bed head would provide the next line she should sputter. “Would you want to join us?” She sighed and laughed at her pathetic invitation. “Squirtle and I were gonna do some neat bubble art if ya wanna try!”

Maria usually didn’t wake up this early on the account of always pushing it to the last second when getting up and getting ready for class but her Charmander wasn’t any better. He was just as lazy as her and you know what they say; they pick it up after their trainer. But this morning, she had randomly awoke and found herself unable to go back into her deep, lazy slumber. After thirty minutes of trying, she had given up and got out of bed, grabbing a jacket and typing the strings on her grey sweatpants before waking up her Charmander. Of course he growled in protest but then he realized she was leaving and he had to be glued by her side.

She thought about going to the cafeteria for breakfast but it seemed to early for that. It was closed but to her luck, the vending machines were open. She had bought a bottle of orange juice and Charmander a carton of berry pokesnacks before continuing on their stroll around the school. She had just realized she had never seen the school this quiet and empty but, then again, she’s never been up this early. She was passing by a window that shown the field in the back of the Academy, noticing a girl and her Squirtle were doing something with a canvas. What she had so far on her easel was surprisingly pretty and Maria was never one for art.

She had decided to enter outside and observe them from a distance for a moment, Charmander too into his pokesnacks that he had a berry mess all over his mouth. The little buddy never could help himself when it came to food; just like Maria. Maria looked around when the girl suddenly invited them over, pointing at her own chest and mouthing the word ‘me’ in question before strolling over. She knelt by them, Charmander licking the remains of berries on the carton, as Maria surveyed the both of them. “How would bubble art even work? Wouldn’t it, you know, pop?”

Lisa turned to her stakes and then back to the girl and Charmander in front of her. "Well, this is definitely an art experiment for sure!" She chuckled at herself. "My name is Lisa Scott, first year here...and this is my partner Squirtle." She motioned to her partner who was enamored by Charmander's tail. "Oh wow Squirtle, this is your first time seeing a fire pokemon with an active flame on them huh!" Squirtle nodded jumped out from behind Lisa and tried dancing with Charmander. Lisa covered her mouth and laughed at the display, "sorry he gets excited when he meets new friends especially pokemon he has never seen before."

"But oh, yes!" Lisa absent mindingly continued. "The bubble stix as I call them have a dye that react to water. I thought this would be a fun artist way for Squirtle and I to train!"

Marty had seen Lisa leaving, having been reading up on the migration habits of Riolu and Lucario, when he heard the other leaving with a big canvas under her arm. Immediately he knew what his old friend was up to. and decided to take the book with him as he followed her. 

He tossed his blond locks to the side as he followed, being extra quiet as he snuck up on her, wanting to surprise his best friend with a Ursaring hug. That is until he stepped on a twig and alerted her to his presence. Tepig hid behind Marty’s leg as he froze. “Sure.” He responded to her invitation, scratching the back of his own head as well.

 Lisa gleefully waved down at  Tepig and gave a big hug to her old friend. "Hey Marty! Hi Tepig! I am so happy to see you both!" She stepped back and clasped her hands together, still smiling she looked down at her canvas. "Let me fetch you another canvas and some of my bubble stix as I call them." Lisa reached in her bag and pulled five more sticks out. "This I thought could be a fun art activity for Squirtle and myself to do together while practicing his bubble move." She pulled the sticks out and extended them to Marty. "Here place these in ground like I did mine." She gestured to her display. "Now Squirtle will use his bubble attack for ours. The loops have a particular dye that mix well with water. However, just blowing on them may work too...I think." She reluctantly scratched her head. "Oh idea! What if we try using tepig's fire attack...like I don't know ember or something." She flipped her hair and ran around the corner. "Here! We can use this instead of a canvas for yours then, I mean if you want. I think the dye should be fine to mix with fire...probably." She shrugged and waited fro Marty's reply as she held a rusted piece of silver metal in front of her.

  Clover laughed as Growlithe licked her cheek, sitting up with the three of them on her lap. She was used to having them all sitting on her like that, though she was trying to actually train her pokémon, not just have some fun. It was harder to train them at Bark Academy since she didn’t have her usual set up that she did back home, but she would just have to make do. She got to her feet, walking to nearby trees and pointing them out, “Growlithe, use take down. Flareon, quick attack. Tepig, flame charge.” It took a moment, but they managed to knock down enough logs for her to set up some hurdles.

As soon as Clover had set up the hurdles for them, she crossed the field again, turning back to her pokémon and calling out for them to begin a new race. It was different that time, though she knew it would be. Flareon was more agile than Growlithe and reached her first. It took Tepig a lot longer with his little legs, but eventually he got there.

Lisa smiled and couldn't help a small giggle as Tepig caught up with the race. She picked up her pencils and sketch she had been working on. "Here goes nothing..." she mumbled to herself as she bounded toward the group.

Lisa clenched her sketch book and made a slight attempt of a wave. "Those are some fast pokemon you got. I could totes see you as a Rapidish rider." Lisa swayed before she extended her hand. "My name is Lisa Scott I arrived on a campus yesterday. This is my partner Squirtle." She tapped a pokeball stuck to her hip with her opposite hand to release her friend. Squirtle bounced out and instantly started smiling and dancing. He noticed the other pokemon and playfully danced around them. "Sorry about Squirtle...he gets a little excited to meet new friends. Lisa stifled a laugh as she watched him continue on.

"On your marks. Get set. Go!" Clover called to her pokémon on the other side of the field. Racing them was fun. They always enjoyed playing together. Besides, it was a much easier way of improving their speed without hurting them in battles. It didn’t take long before Growlithe had run to the other side, pouncing on her and sending her to the ground, closely followed by Flareon. Tepig jumped on the pile once he’d finished the race and Clover found herself once again stuck under a pile of pokémon.

  Lisa quietly sat under a nearby tree as she tried to sketch what the clouds floating by could actually be. One looked like a Swablu she decided, which given the pokemon's wings wasn't much of a stretch. She glanced up from her sketching when she heard a girl call out to her pokemon nearby. "How interesting..." she pondered. "Three pokemon, all fire types too." Lisa muddled to herself as she flipped through her sketch book to a blank page. She put her standard black lead pencil down and picked up a color pencil box she brought with her. "Perfect!" She shook three pencils out of the box, one red, one yellow, and one orange. "This should prove to be a fun drawing!"

Lisa expectedly awaited for the pokemon mini race to begin. She loosely sketched out the forms in orange and then went back through with a few details. A flurry of fiery shapes running like mystic spirits filled her page. She smiled down at her work in progress and continued to fine tune the drawing. A shading here, erasing a line there, blending here. "What a perfect day and a fun impromptu drawing project."
