Ferrari room. This job is killing me. See previous post about liking organic shapes ;)
Dry riverbed/ grasslands sort of thing starting to take shape in Sedalia. I love painting plants! Organic shapes make me happy.
Starry Night (the Denver version) mural. I painted this for a Denver family. The sky (up to the ceiling) is a fairly close to Van Gogh's original. I faded the brushwork out onto the ceiling and added a few more stars. The mountains, Denver skyline, City Park Boat house and the grass are all as seen from Denver's Museum of Nature and Science. 99% of this mural was painted using two of my favorite brushes (that I can't usually use for murals) #6 and #8 filbert. Van Gogh wasn't really into straight lines and I had a great time trying to emulate that. I hope I was able to capture even a small touch of what Van Gogh did in his masterpiece.
Van Gogh's Starry Night reproduction mural (with a few twists) in progress in a Denver home. So far i'm having a blast with this one.
Prairie mural which will be able to morph from ranch land to Africa or dino landscape etc. in a few years. Super excited about this project!
Working on a rendering for a mural of Shanghai. Decided to morph a few images by tracing with prismacolor pencils onto matte finish Duralar (I love this stuff as I also use it for stencils). What do you think of my new technique?
Half way there and, finally, done.
Bye bye hi-plane...
And thusly my first 'the kid grew out of it' mural begins to disappear.
Some of the images I am using as inspiration for my next project... Lacrosse room complete with mural, lacrosse stick chair rail and turf 'faux'.
Where the magic happens
Posting this to show you a bit of my process....
I found this first image (and many others) online and the client loved it. We used it as a inspiration and a color pallet, added a number of elements (sailboats, the bi-plane, the transistion onto the side walls) and voila. It is very different and yet you can see how I pinpointed what the client loved and translated it into a 20' long mural.
I just found this on pinterest and I LOVE it! It is 'Little Forest', by Inge Friebel, 1959. Please, please, please someone let me mural these little munchkins on your nursery walls. This blue would be lovely as a base coat but I honestly can't think of a color that wouldn't work.
finally finished!
Sky with tree branches. Today maples and honey locusts, tomorrow elm trees!
Fluffy white clouds mural on Denver office ceiling. The shadows in these photos are horrible (from the plastic sheeting and work lighting) but I faded the edges down much lighter so the center of the 'tray' is the darkest/ bluest part of the sky.
Soon to come... tree branches full of leaves around the edges and a few hawks in the sky.... stay tuned
Some days..... Some days being a mural artist is a bit tricky.
Sometimes the work just has to get done and I have to work around and among finish carpenters, tile guys and wood floor guys, and other painters. It doesn't make things easy but it does make me feel more like 'one of the guys'. The role of stuck up diva artist has never really fit so I try to have fun with these situations. They give me the opportunity to be flexible and accommodating and that makes me stand out among decorative painters.
This is the first day of work on a ceiling in a Downtown Denver office. The remodel is being done in this fabulous old building.
