The silver prototype of my Lover’s Eye pendants finally arrived, and I am so happy with it so far. Can’t wait to see it in gold, and with the addition of the glass domes. Sapphire crystal, actually. ✨ These pieces are going to be so special, I can’t wait to make them available to the public. 👁 I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how it’ll work so here’s a quick summary: I’ll have a page on my website where you’ll be able to choose the pendant’s metal and chain length. After that, you will need to send me reference pictures of the eye you’d like me to paint, as well as the date to be inscribed on the back. I will paint the eye, have it set in the pendant and have the date engraved on the back. You will receive this in addition to a once-off signed and framed print of the piece. The very first set I made at @clayhands came out of the kiln this week: pinch pots inspired by the sun, moon and stars. 🌞🌙✨ I wanted to make some things I needed for my desk: a water bowl, bowl for pencil shavings and a pot for my brushes. They’re wonky, messy and chipped but it’s what they represent that matters more to me: explorations into the unknown, making mistakes, taking the time to play, and really just how refreshing it’s been to try something different to the miniature paintings I’ve been doing for 5 years straight. I’m definitely not going to become a ceramicist now, don’t worry - I’ll leave that to the pro’s (@munnike + @floriangadsby + @christogiles + @almedapottery I’m looking at you!) - for now I’m just really enjoying this weekly opportunity to mess around. MOUNTAIN GORILLA 🦍. 25 x 28 mm. I think we need every bit of good news we can get these days, so here goes: Last week, the IUCN changed the once critically endangered mountain gorilla’s status to endangered. 🙌🏻Since groups like @gorilladoctors first began working with the species, their numbers have grown from about 250 to 1004. In the words of Inger Anderson (IUCN’s Director General: "These conservation successes are proof that the ambitious, collaborative efforts of governments, business and civil society could turn back the tide of species loss.” What can you do? Recycle your old cellphones (if you can’t give them to someone in need). Coltan, a mineral used in handheld electronics is often destructively mined in Central Africa, which is home to this species (amongst others). I wasn’t aware of that - thanks @joelsartore!
