@dreadheir, hayden’s head tilts to the side with a heavy sigh.  she gets it — she was one of the people who added to that when he first came back, fueled by her own anxiety with a constant regret that said:  this was a bad idea ( but he’s here now, he’s helped her in more ways than he ever could have as an alpha,  so maybe it wasn’t. ) ❝  just because they have reason to want to fight you doesn’t mean they actually want to fight you.  ❞  but she knows that isn’t exactly soothing, either, so she shakes her head.  ❝  you don’t have to see them again.  but— you should trust me.  they know you’ve been here with me.  they know that i —- ❞   she pauses, because she’s never said this out loud,  and she’s not sure if she entirely believes it herself,  but for the most part,  she does:  ❝  — i trust you.  ❞   her jaw clenches, eyes meeting his.  that trust is specific, of course.  she doesn’t exactly trust that he’ll always be this version of himself, doesn’t trust he won’t start seeking more of something eventually, but she trusts that she and her sister are safe here with him, and she trusts that he’s not going to cause trouble for himself when he’s still just trying to survive.  she looks down,  nodding her head slowly as she takes a moment.  it feels like something an alpha and beta would do — something she’s been strict about them not being — so as long as they don’t treat it that way,  she can handle this.  there’s still so much that theo knows, more than hayden, and she has to rely on that.  ❝  you’ve done that a lot?  ❞

@ghosthaunt, he can't help but be endeared by klaus's suggestion --- of course it's enticing, even though scott still has his own worries.  ❝  you are fun.  and--- well,  i TRY to be fun,  anyway,  ❞   he laughs. sometimes it feels like he's not really allowed the chance,  but he has a bit more freedom in college--- so he's trying, as he promised his mother and his friends back home.  ❝  i think there's a lot of ways we can have fun without the drinking, though.  ❞   he catches it as soon as he says it that it might imply something else,  and a flustered look crosses his face as he waves his hand in front of him.  ❝  i mean,  not----  i just mean, anything.  i like hanging out with you,  ❞    he says with a soft chuckle.  his head tilts to the side for a moment,  that look of endearment still crossing his features.  this could be good for him,  he knows.  he really does want to make an effort to have a real college experience,  so maybe he should learn from someone like him.  ❝  deal,  ❞  he says simply, flashing his smile even brighter.  ❝  i might need your help with this, though.  not that i didn't go to a lot of parties when i was in high school,  i did,  but---  ❞   he shrugs, because that's really all he can say.  ❝  kind of got out of the habit.  so, you'll make sure i learn to have some fun?  ❞   he asks.  ❝  and i'll make sure YOU aren't alone.  but---   ❞   he glances around for a moment.  ❝  something tells me that you're the kind of guy people just like. ❞   he's easy to be around,  and scott hopes that's true.  he turns a bit more shy as klaus asks,  his hand coming up to the back of his neck and rubbing it for a moment.  ❝  oh,  i don't know.  i've been thinking about you.  ❞   his eyes close tightly for a moment,  a small smirk tugging at his lips.  he opens his eyes again and drops his arm.  ❝  you know,  you're a new parent and all.  how's the cat?  ❞

❝  it does,  ❞  he speaks softly,  staring at dave with nothing but LOVE in his eyes.  ❝  i can’t think of a more perfect word for us than PERFECT,  ❞  he laughs.  and moments like these are perfect too.  when they get away,  when they can just BE together.  he wants that permanently.  he’s SCARED because he doesn’t know how all of this works,  but he WANTS it permanently.  he can’t imagine ever letting go of this.  dave echoes those feelings perfectly.  ❝  i want that with you too,  ❞  he whispers.  ❝  there’s NOTHING in the world i want more than that.  ❞  there’s a hint of desperation to his voice,  but he’s not trying to hide that.  he loves dave. he wants to be with him.  they already have to hide that enough,  he’s not going to hide it from dave too when he doesn’t have to.  he smiles softly at the idea of him interacting with grace.  he can imagine only good things;  his mom would be nothing but kind and dave would be too.  ❝  oh,  you would be!  hey,  we’ll make it happen!  she’ll love you,  i know it.  ❞  he doesn’t know how anyone COULDN’T.  klaus smiles brightly,  looking at him with such FONDNESS.  he’s always felt like TOO MUCH to some people.  that doesn’t mean he’s going to dull himself to please them,  but it does hurt when he truly does end up being a lot for someone to handle.  but with dave,  he doesn’t have that fear.  ❝  and you’ll love all of it,  won’t you?  ❞  he speaks it as more of a statement than a question,  a hint of CONFIDENCE in his tone.  ❝  i’m looking forward to you meeting them too,  ❞  he speaks softly.  ❝  i’m looking forward to a LOT of things.  dave,  i have so much to show you!  ❞  every day,  he thinks of something new in the future that dave would have LOVED.  maybe he actually gets the opportunity to show him now.

dave smiles,  nodding his head back at him.   ❝  we'll go with that.  who's going to stop us?  ❞   he asks, raising a brow and letting out a soft chuckle.  if they think they're perfect,  then they are.  it's as simple as that.  that's what's comfortable to dave.  his grin grows as klaus tells him there's nothing he wants more than that,  comforted to know they're on the same page -- even though it had been obvious, even before today.  ❝  and you really think we'd get it, finally?  there -- where you're from?  ❞   anything has to be better than here, he thinks.  dave chuckles, bringing his hand over to cup klaus's cheek as he gives him a confident nod.  ❝  i'll love it all and then some,  ❞   he promises,  leaning forward to press his lips to his nose quickly, letting out a small chuckle.  he fingertips brush over his hair gently and he nods his head.  ❝  i want to see every single place you’ve ever been.  we’ll have time for it, won’t we?  ❞   he teases, his grin growing.

he looks down, smiling to himself before looking back up at dave.  ❝  most people i know don’t believe what i say,  ❞  he admits.  ❝  but i knew you would. that’s why i told you.  ❞  he likely would have told him anyway somehow, but he knew dave takes him seriously.  even when the craziest of truths come out of klaus’s mouth,  he believes him.  that’s something he values and it’s something he doesn’t get from people.  he stares at dave with nothing but AFFECTION in his eyes.  ❝  it’s the only place that matters.  ❞  TOGETHER.  it doesn’t matter where that is.  if he had to stay at war with him for a thousand years,  he would have.  if dave has to be someone he can only see and not touch,  he’ll take that over nothing.  he lets out a happy sigh at the words.  ❝  i’ve missed hearing you say that.  ❞  compliments from him always meant more than they mean with anyone else.  he looks down at the dog tags he wears around his neck.  he never planned on taking them off and he never will.  ❝  of course i did,  ❞  he speaks quietly,  smiling softly,  but there’s a sadness to it too.  ❝  it’s all i had left of you.  ❞  and he would have clung onto that forever.  he still will.  ❝  i belong with you too,  ❞  he whispers.  ❝  i always have and i always will.  ❞  and now that dave is standing in front of him again,  he feels like he can BREATHE.

that has always made dave sad. frustrated, too — even if he understood it firsthand.  but this isn’t time for sadness, at least he doesn’t want it to be.  this is a time for him and klaus to focus on what’s good about all of this:  that they still have each other, in some way.  ❝  most people don’t know you like i know you.  don’t love you like i love you, either, ❞   he reminds, something he always liked reminding klaus about.  he loves him.  he knows him.  that hasn’t changed.  his smile is gentle as he nods his head.  ❝  you’ve always been home to me. ❞   because they met in a place that wasn’t either of their homes, and it wasn’t the place either of them belonged.  but they found a home in each other, and that’s all that mattered.   dave takes a moment to look over him, as if confirming his own words again.  ❝  i’ll tell ya everyday.  i promise.  ❞   every day that he can be with him.  his shoulders deflate as he watches klaus reach for the dog tags.  dave doesn’t need them back — he likes knowing klaus had something of his to hold onto.  even still, when they can’t hold each other.  ❝  keep ‘em.  okay?  ❞   he says softly,  smiling back at him.  ❝  it’s not all you have of me.  you’ve always got our memories and they’re pretty damn good ones,  aren’t they?  but—— there’s nothing i want more than to hold you.  if i can’t, i want you to hold onto these.  that’s enough for us.  ❞  they’ll make sure it’s enough. they’ll make sure this is everything they can ask for, given their circumstances.

his shoulders shrug and he lets out a sigh.  ❝  it’s alright,  viktor,  ❞  he tells his brother sincerely.  ❝  nothing you can do about it!  ❞  only their dad could really do something about it and he knows that’s far from an option.  and he doesn’t mind that he doesn’t get it.  he doesn’t understand viktor’s side of it too much either.  he grins at his brother’s question,  not because he thinks it’s a useful idea,  but because he’s TRYING.  and it makes it clear he may be willing to help,  but he still thinks it’s futile.  ❝  i don’t think it’s a matter of whether or not he BELIEVES me and more whether or not he CARES,  ❞  he points out.  ❝  my guess is that dad is so cruel that even if i was as sick as a dog,  he’d STILL make me go with.  ❞  he smiles brightly and nods his head,  bouncing lightly on his feet.  ❝  you’re welcome!  ❞  klaus is more than happy to do it  —–  whatever makes him feel most like HIMSELF.  ❝  she still CAN,  ❞  he notes.  ❝  there’s just not AS much to brush anymore.  ❞  klaus looks at himself in the mirror and grins.  ❝  i always look good,  ❞  he points out.  ❝  but you’re right and i have thought about it and i might just do that!  ❞

 he does wish he could do something, though.  he's not sure what that could be, especially with how it often feels like he has no power in this house at all, but he wishes he could comfort klaus.  that's all he wants to do for his siblings when they're home from a mission -- comfort them, make them feel good, remind them that they have a brother at home waiting for them who loves them.  he's just never sure how to go about it, or if they even care.  ❝  well, if there ever is, you can let me know.  ❞   and he can at least try.  viktor frowns, because it's frustrating to hear the lengths their father will go to make sure klaus doesn't miss a mission --- all the while ensuring that viktor is never a part of it.  he knows his dad is cruel, he feels it every single day, but it seems he has a different brand of cruelty for each.  ❝  i wish you could stay home with me, ❞   he says honestly.  ❝  it's quiet here when you guys aren't.  ❞   and he's lonely.  ❝  and you shouldn't have to do all of that if you aren't feeling well.  or--- if you just  .  .  .  don't want to go.  but i guess he really wouldn't like that, huh? ❞    he brings a hand up, fluffing through his hair and smiling.  ❝  i hope she likes it anyway.  ❞   she'll probably be mortified by the messy cut klaus has given viktor, but viktor doesn't mind it.  a shy smile tugs at his lips and he nods his head enthusiastically.  ❝  you should.  i was scared to try this, but i feel better now.  ❞   he wants klaus to experience it, too.

his head shakes and he lets out a scoff.  ❝  you can say that all you want,  hayden,  but it doesn’t exactly make me feel SAFE.  ❞  why WOULD he feel safe?  sure,  she could tell them not to hurt him and she could believe they’ll follow that,  but he doesn’t believe the same.  (he knows firsthand the ways they can turn on each other.  after all,  he made it happen.)  ❝  i don’t have the same trust in them that you do that they’d listen,  ❞  he points out.  his head nods and he looks away from her.  it would be nice to get away from here and to someplace he feels more comfortable,  more at HOME.  where they are now is FINE.  it’s survivable and ultimately,  that’s what theo cares about.  but he doesn’t feel free or like he can prosper.  and maybe he’ll never fully feel that way again,  but getting CLOSER to it would be wonderful.  ❝   yeah.  probably not,  ❞  he mutters.  ❝  we COULD.  both of us.  but…  probably not.  ❞  they’d be fine on their own,  but there’s a reason theo chose to come with her instead of get out of beacon hills alone.  he can do it alone and wouldn’t MIND doing it alone,  but allies are nice.  not a pack.  he’s not a pack animal.  but a COMPANION has been nice.  ❝  do you really want to look for somewhere like that?  ❞

 she scoffs,  glaring back at him.  yeah, she knows he’s being fair --- she doesn’t trust her pack to welcome him back with open arms, and she doesn’t trust theo to be on his best behavior with them, either.  even if there’s no violence shared between them,  the dirty looks and petty comments are inevitable,  and she doesn’t really want to subject either party to that  (  but still,  there’s a part of her that wished they could all get along.  she has a newfound respect for theo after all of this that she wishes the others could find, too.  )   ❝  i'd say you could handle yourself, but i would rather avoid a fight entirely,  ❞   she insists.  she wouldn't want him to handle himself;  she's afraid of how that could end for her pack.  she rolls her eyes, trying not to get offended by the way he implies they wouldn't trust her  (  she never knows if it's a real attempt to get in her head or not. )  ❝  no one's saying you have to be best friends with them, theo.  but--- if you want to go back to beacon hills, ever, even just for a little bit --- we can manage it, ❞   she insists, her eyes meeting his.  even if that means acting as a shield between them, she can.  her loyalty is to her pack -- but theo, in some way, has become like a brother to her ---  an annoying one she often can't wait to get away from, but it comes with the same care to wish nothing bad happens to him, and that she can try to protect him every once in a while.   she looks down for a moment, thinking it over.   ❝  yeah, ❞   she says simply.  ❝  sort of.  i -- never really got the chance back there,  ❞   she admits,  looking up to him again. ❝  we just kind of left pretty quickly.  ❞

ghosthaunt​:  luke & klaus.

his head shakes and he pushes out a sigh.  “no,  they don’t,”  he agrees.  “but,  like you said,  WE see it this way.  we both do.  and people here see it that way too!  otherwise,  they wouldn’t be here and there wouldn’t be people here that we’ve probably seen more than once,  right?”  he asks with a soft laugh.  “we’re not alone.”  klaus has never actually believed that before he met luke.  he makes friends here  —–  GREAT friends.  but the friendships aren’t that deep.  he never feels quite as understood as he does with luke.  but they DO have each other.  he wants that to stay.  there’s a look of understanding in his eyes as he listens to luke go on.  he knows exactly what he means.  knowing who they are beyond their addiction is difficult when it’s been part of their lives for so long.  but they’ll figure it out someday.  at least,  he knows luke will.  “well,  whoever you are,  i’m sure i’ll like you,”  he tells him.  “and maybe you will find a way.  i hope you do.”  klaus doesn’t hold that same hope for himself,  but the hope he has for luke is GENUINE because he does badly want him to be okay.  he nods his head because he DOES understand what luke means.  while klaus has figured out they all deal with their stuff in different ways,  even if they don’t make sense to one another,  he didn’t always know that.  especially growing up,  he was CONFUSED why his siblings did some of the things they did.  but he gets it now.  they’re all screwed up from their childhoods.  it just SHOWS differently.  “maybe,”  he whispers back.  “and it’s not like life is over JUST yet.  there could still be time for them to understand you.  and time for YOU to understand them too.”  maybe that’s where luke should start.  maybe it’d help.

 luke’s lips rub together as he thinks his words over, eventually nodding his head.  “yeah.  guess that’s why i like coming here,  actually,”  he admits.  “‘cause people get it.  even when you don’t want them to, uh, even when you don’t wanna hear it,”  he explains, looking up to him and shrugging his shoulders.  sometimes it’s hard when people get it, too.  but right now, with him, it’s comforting.  a small smile tugs at the corner of his lips, his cheeks turning slightly red at his words.   “i hope you do,”  he says simply, because he’s starting to realize how nice his presence is to have.  he’s never cared much about being liked, especially in here —- but klaus changes that for him.  he looks away, thinking it over for a moment, realizing that he’s never really considered that  —-  that life isn’t over.  it’s always felt that way.  maybe it has since he was a kid,  like he was just holding on by a thread until something finally took him.  “weird to think about that,”  he admits in a soft mumble.  “um, just,  uh—- having time.  feels like my life goes in a cycle.  hard to think about that.  having time,”  he repeats again, looking back at him.  “uh—- meeting you  .  .  .  i don’t wanna take time for granted.”  and maybe that connection he has with klaus can help him face his family, too.

his shoulders shrug.  ❝  maybe!  maybe there have been a few times where things around the school and in the supply closet have just gone a little bit MISSING,  but i can’t confirm or deny that!  ❞  he teases.  his smile softens and his head tilts as he looks over dave carefully.  ❝  i do trust you!  i don’t see why i shouldn’t.  ❞  there isn’t a reason that klaus can find and he doesn’t think he’ll find one.  dave,  inside and out, just seems so GENUINE and kind and everything he could want in a person.  ❝  really?  i’ll keep that in mind,  dave!  ❞  he assures.  he truly will.  if breakfast is dave’s favorite,  then klaus needs to make sure he’s around for breakfast and can make sure it’s good for him. his smile brightens and he tilts his head at the man,  a look of almost PRIDE on his features. it is so pleasing to hear that he doesn’t let it hold him back anymore. he’d hate for that to be the case.  ❝  good!  good,  ❞  he speaks sincerely.  ❝  no,  nothing holds me back now!  ❞  well,  that’s not entirely true,  but it’s nothing worth mentioning right now.  he reaches his hand out in front of him to rest over dave’s,  keeping that gentle smile on his face.  ❝  you are.  i don’t think it’s possible for ANYONE to question that,  ❞  he promises.  he has an impact on those kids.  he’s an excellent role model.  klaus truly does wish he had someone like him growing up.  he narrows his eyes playfully at the man , nodding his head slowly.  it’s hard to keep calm knowing he’s dave’s favorite,  but he manages.  ❝  your secret is safe with me!  ❞

dave raises a brow,  an endeared smile on his lips.  ❝  just a little bit?  ❞   he asks,  amused by the way he speaks.  his smile softens, and he nods his head, assuring him that he can trust him.  there really isn’t any reason he shouldn’t,  and dave will always make sure he knows that.  ❝  you can,  klaus,  ❞   he speaks softly.  ❝  even if you’re causing trouble ---- i can keep my lips sealed,  ❞   he teases.  ❝  for YOU.  ❞   because maybe he’s special in that regard.  he’s surprised when he feels klaus’s hand move over his,  eyes looking down to theirs together and holding his breath for a moment.  it brings butterflies to his chest,  a nervous smile spreading over his lips because he likes the action,  he’s just not used to it.  he doesn’t look back up at him for a moment later,  cheeks flushing a shade of pink.  he appreciates his words more than he could ever say,  and that paired with the touch makes him feel like he’s melting in his seat.  ❝  thank you, klaus.  i trust you,  ❞   he says sincerely --- so he believes him.  he lets out a small chuckle and nods his head back to his words,  his thumb just barely brushing against his fingers as he simply stares back at him.

❝  oh,  it would be!  it would be COMPLETE torture!  but i would take that over never knowing you,  over never coming here,  ❞  he admits.  ❝  i’m just…  i’m just so glad i stayed.  ❞  as hard as it is here,  as much as they’ve had to endure,  he doesn’t regret it.  how could he?  he shrugs his shoulders and smiles playfully.  ❝  hey,  i don’t mind a man with some wrinkles!  ❞  he assures.  klaus lifts his hand and runs it gently through dave’s hair.  ❝  i think grey would look INCREDIBLE on you.  ❞  he clicks his tongue and scoffs.  ❝  you can’t make me think about this kind of stuff because now i’m getting excited about you being an old man,  ❞  he teases.  he takes a deep breath and clutches dave’s hand.  ❝  okay.  if you believe in me,  i can believe in me too.  ❞  he makes him want to.  at the very least,  klaus is going to TRY.

they wouldn't know they had the chance to meet someone so special otherwise, yet dave can't help but to think he would have felt the void anyway.  there's no one like klaus,  and that's something he's certain, even if he hasn't known him for long.  there's got to be a reason that klaus landed HERE, right in front of him --- as if it was their destiny.  he likes to believe in that, anyway.  ❝  i'm glad, too.  something changed for me that day.  i didn't know what it was back then, but i know now,  ❞   he says, allowing his grin to grow.  he chuckles, eyes looking back at him fondly as he feels his fingers move through his hair.  ❝  well, darling, if you say so, how could i not trust you?  maybe i will.  i think it'd look pretty great on you, too.  but everything does,   ❞   he teases.  he runs his fingers lightly along klaus's back and lets out another chuckle.  ❝  i think that's a good thing --- gives us something to look forward to.  ❞   he's making a silent promise here:  that they'll be together, always, forever.  he wants to believe that.  war and time won't keep them apart.   his hands travel to the back of klaus's head, and he hums, looking over him for a moment.  ❝  promise?  ❞   he whispers.

klaus has never felt as WANTED as he does with dave.  he’s never felt like someone wants him regardless of all of his flaws,  that someone MEANS it when they say they’re going to stick around.  he’s not sure he’s ever been WORTHY of that,  but dave is changing his mind.  dave is showing him that he CAN have the love that he always craved,  that he always DREAMED of.  dave is a miracle. despite the circumstances,  what has happened has been a MIRACLE.  dave is life-changing.  klaus hasn’t doubted that for a moment.  he takes a deep breath and can’t wipe the smile off of his face.  ❝  family,  ❞  he repeats.  ❝  yeah,  you’re my family too.  i wouldn’t want anyone else to be part of my family more than you.  i mean,  you…  you’re…  you’re perfect.  ❞  his voice is whispered and resembles DISBELIEF.  he chuckles against the man’s lips when a quick kiss is pressed to them,  staring at him with such LOVE in his eyes when he pulls away.  ❝  and we get to be.  we will be.  we get to be WITH each other,  ❞  he chuckles.  no hiding,  no fear,  nothing.  just the FREEDOM to be with one another,  to love each other in the way that they deserve to.  his shoulders shrug and he furrows his brows,  not entirely sure what he means himself.  ❝  i don’t know!  you’re cute and you’re sweet and you’re caring and you’re giving…  i guess that’s what i think of when i think of a baker,  ❞  he admits.  ❝  hey,  you know,  my mom,  grace,  she bakes!  so if it IS different,  which i don’t think it really is,  she can help you.  ❞  klaus would love that  —–  dave getting to know his family.  his head nods playfully and he lets out a soft laugh.  ❝  yeah,  i can definitely do that!  ❞  he agrees.  his smile softens and he nods his head.  ❝  i think you will,  yeah.  they can be a LOT,  but so am i,  and you like me,  so…  i love them and i think you will too.  ❞

it means a lot to dave, because he knows how big klaus's family is --- but he also knows what he's been willing to say goodbye to in order to stay here with dave for this long.  he's never taken that for granted.   his grin grows, and though he's always loved his own family -- he realizes now that there's something so different to getting to choose a family that is entirely full of love, not consequence,  not pressure,  not whatever it is that his uncle would say to him if he knew how he was spending his time in the army.   ❝  well,  darling,  i don't know about ' perfect. '  but i sure think that word works for you and me,  ❞   he insists with a warm smile.  he couldn't dare look away from dave now,  too endeared by the affection in his eyes,  his own matching klaus's.  he enjoys any time they're able to spend together,  but moments like these,  when they get to break away from everyone else,  he cherishes this the most.  he doesn't have to worry about the way he's looking at klaus --- it's too hard to stop himself from it, anyway.    ❝  you know something?  when we're with the rest of our crew  .  .  .    well, i always like being with you, but it's like we've gotta put this on 'pause.'  and i don't want to have to do that.  i want to spend every moment with you --- be able to share my love with you every moment.  ❞   to love him, openly.  he's not sure how different things are back where klaus is from, but he knows it has to be better than this.  he lets out a chuckle and shrugs his shoulders.   ❝  well,  if that's how you could describe your mom,  then i think i'd be in good hands.  ❞   his grin grows at the thought.  he's excited to meet her.  he just wishes that klaus could meet his mom, too--- but somehow, that feels so much more complicated than them leaving this timeline.  he hums, bringing his hand up to rest gently on klaus's cheek.   ❝  if you're a lot, my dear, that just means there's so much more to love,  ❞   he says quietly.   he leans forward,  pressing a kiss to the opposite cheek.   ❝  i'll love anyone who loves you.  so,  i'm looking forward to meeting them.  really.  ❞

his smile brightens when he sees scott’s own happy expression and it fills his chest with warmth.  he likes him.  he enjoys his company so much already and he’s finding himself MISSING that,  so he’s glad he’s here.  they can spend a little time together. he tilts his head and furrows his brows,  looking over him slowly before he shrugs his shoulders.  ❝  well,  maybe you just aren’t trying hard enough!  i can help with that if you need me to!  ❞  he insists.  ❝  or not.  i mean, you can still come to something like this and have fun.  with ME!  ❞  he insists.  klaus will hang out with him whether he’s sober or not.  his head shakes quickly. ❝  oh,  no,  definitely not IN the frat!  i just hang out here,  i know some of the guys here!  besides,  i’ll never say no to a good party!  ❞

scott laughs, his brows raising curiously as he looks him over.  ❝  so you want to be the one to get me drunk, that's what you're saying?  ❞   he teases.  hanging out with him would be fun,  he knows that for sure,  but he'd inevitably have to fake the drunk--- and klaus doesn't seem like someone he'd want to lie to ( at least, not more than he has to. )  his lips purse together, still grinning, his eyes beaming back at him.  ❝  i wish i'd known that before i came --- i thought i'd be all alone,  ❞   he admits. ❝  but your company would've been appreciated.  really,  ❞   he says, allowing his grin to grow again.  it's not that scott can't make friends --- he's surprisingly good at making a good impression, despite once feeling like that was impossible,  before his whole world changed. he chuckles,  looking back at him with amusement.  ❝  you know, that’s kind of relieving to hear?  i mean—- that you’re not one of them, just here.  like me,  ❞   he says, leaning closer without realizing it.  ❝  i think i’ve said no to plenty of parties, but like i said, if i knew you were the company—- this could’ve been a no brainer,  ❞  he teases.  ❝  i was hoping i’d run into you again, actually.  ❞

❝  i will be!  i will be,  ❞  he promises quickly,  giving several nods of his head.  ❝  i always have been.  you’re the only person i’ve always felt like i can be.  ❞  it’s less about the fact that he needs to LIE to people and more about the fact that he feels the need to hide vulnerability sometimes.  not all the time,  but sometimes.  and other times,  he feels the need to lie for attention because it can be the only way to get it.  but with dave,  it’s never been anything like that.  their relationship was always built on honesty,  openness,  and trust.  he’d never do anything to change that.  ❝  hopefully,  NOWHERE because i don’t want to be anywhere else either.  ❞  a laugh falls from his mouth and he shakes his head.  his hand comes up to hover over dave’s cheek,  but he doesn’t try to touch.  he knows he can’t and he’s preventing that pain from setting in,  despite the desperate urge he has to touch him.  ❝  i’ve missed that,  ❞  he admits.  ❝  you’re so…  god,  you’re so handsome!  ❞  he doesn’t have the words to properly describe that.  it feels so wonderful to be NEEDED,  the warmth it ignites in him rushing through his body rapidly and he’s filled with the LOVE he felt was ripped from him upon dave’s death.  him being here,  even if it’s not the same,  is bringing all that back.  he’s needed by someone just as much as he needs them.  ❝  i still need you,  ❞  he admits quietly.  ❝  and i hope you still need me too.  ❞  because that means he’ll stay,  as long as klaus is sober enough for him to be around.

dave smiles sweetly back at him, his eyes gazing over him with nothing but adoration.  he trusts him completely.  he knows he’s always been honest with him and he doesn’t doubt he will now.  he just wants to make sure he’s taken care of,  that no matter what happens and no matter how happy they are together,  he’s not missing out on his life  (  because he’s still living his.  )  ❝  i know.  i think i always knew that.  well,  when you told me the things you did,  i could either believe you’d always be honest with me,  or---  i could not believe you at all.  ❞   he lets out a soft chuckle, because the latter was clearly never an adoption.  he was a little confused at first, but he trusted klaus too much to brush him off.  his grin grows and he shakes his head.  ❝  this is the only place i want to be,  too.  the only place i’ve ever wanted to be.  right here with you.  ❞   he lets out a sigh when klaus brings his hand up,  enjoying the feeling of it even though the touch isn’t real.  he knows what it feels like, he could never forget.  he shakes his head bashfully and grins brightly back at him.   ❝  well,  so are you,  sweetheart.  you’re beautiful.  ❞   he follows his lead,  bringing his hand up next to his cheek.  he takes a moment to look him over,  his eyes trailing down until he spots the dog tags.  his eyes widen, peeking up to his, then back to the dog tags.   ❝  you kept ‘em?  mine? ❞   he asks,  smiling softly now as he looks up at him and nods his head.  ❝  they look ---  they look real good on you.  ❞   he’s been here with klaus, even if not physically until now.  he likes to think that had something to do with him getting back here.  his brows furrow, looking back at him surprised.  ❝  i’m always going to need you, baby.  you’re the love of my life,  ❞   he says, as if it’s obvious.  ❝ i belong with you. ❞

his head nods once with more confidence than he had when he first got her.  ❝  exactly.  ❞  theo will try that too.  he’s good at understanding people’s desire and motivations when it comes to manipulating them,  but this is different.  he just has to understand scott so they don’t expect the worst from each other.  he’s going to try.  he’s going to keep his guard up and keep his distance,  but he won’t be SO defensive around him.  they don’t have to be enemies.  they don’t have to be friends either.  they just have to tolerate each other.  theo actually does like the plan they’ve set;  they can interact with each other on an information-only basis.  they can exchange things they’ve learned that may be relevant to the other and continue to keep their distance.  it sounds perfect to him.  ❝  good,  ❞  he nods.  ❝  i never thought i’d say this,  but i actually look forward to hearing from you then.  ❞  if it’s USEFUL,  then he’ll be glad about it.

his head nods in acceptance of his words.  he opens his mouth to speak,  about to offer that he can ask theo for advice about it,  but he quickly shuts his mouth.  does he really want to give advice to scott about how to be more powerful?  no.  he doesn’t.  even if it’d be good for scott and theo could actually offer him a different perspective than those around him,  he’s not ready to go that far yet.  he may give advice if scott asks for it unprompted,  but he’s not going out of his way.  ❝  okay,  ❞  he responds.  ❝  well,  good luck with that.  ❞  brows raise at him and he tilts his head,  the corners of his lips just barely raising.  ❝  no?  i guess i’m still full of surprises then,  ❞  he comments dismissively.  what he said is true.  he’d pick being a real werewolf over being a chimera.  though,  he’d pick being a chimera over being human any day too.  he just always wants MORE.  he’s never satisfied.  that’s simply part of who he is.  his head shakes at scott’s response because he completely disagrees.  there’s no world where anyone is better off being human,  let alone scott.  in a way,  theo almost sees it as disrespectful to who he is and to the rest of the supernatural that he interacts with that he still sometimes wants to be human.  they’re so much better like this. nothing will change theo’s mind about that.  ❝  look,  i know being what you are has brought you a lot of bad,  ❞  he begins.  ❝  but it’s brought you so much more good if you look at it the right way.  ❞  they have a different idea of what GOOD is brought from this,  but he can angle it to scott’s liking.  ❝  you CAN do so much more now.  you can help people way more now than when you were just some guy.  because regardless of whether or not you’re a werewolf,  this world still exists and people still get hurt.  your best shot at saving them is by being what you are.  ❞  and he’s just STRONGER,  more powerful,  quicker,  SUPERIOR.  though,  theo knows those words won’t get very far with scott.  he nods his head once,  satisfied with the answer that he’d rather be a werewolf.  ❝  you’re right about that.  no one outside of us can understand what being a chimera is like.  even hayden and corey don’t really understand it, ❞  he admits.  because they don’t remember the process of becoming that.  ❝  but this is still better than being NOTHING.  don’t forget that.  corey shouldn’t forget that either.  ❞

scott’s surprised to hear it.  and he’s just as surprised with himself to feel relief in that.  theo is not the first enemy who’s become an ally —- and he’s certain he won’t be the last.  it’s better this way, rather than a loose end who will only come back to hurt them later.  keeping theo close protects them all.  but that doesn’t mean that his intentions with him to keep him in the loop and protect him too aren’t genuine.  they are.  scott may be a true alpha —- but that doesn’t mean he knows everything.  they should be coming together to help, not fight, no matter their history.  ❝  i look forward to yours, too,  ❞  he says quietly,  a reminder that he can call him, if he needs to.  there’s nothing scott wouldn’t do to help those who have helped him —- even most who haven’t.  

scott scoffs,  but he’s quiet about it,  not dwelling on his words  (  even though they do poke at the resentment he still has for him.  surprises, that’s one word for it.  )  ❝  guess so,  ❞   he mumbles.  it does interest him, though.  scott looks down as theo begins to talk.  he’s right, and scott knows that, it’s just difficult.  all this pressure builds up, and it starts to suffocate him —-  but he knows it’s not a good idea to admit to theo that the pressure of being a leader isn’t always manageable  (  he’s already used that against him before; even if they’re playing nice now, he doesn’t want him to start collecting ammo.  )  he takes a deep breath and nods his head.  ❝  after everything these past few weeks  .  .  .  ❞   he starts, thinking of monroe, of the war.  ❝  it’s like a lot of that help comes with a lot of pain, too.  i’m just trying to balance it all.  but—-  you are right.  i can help more people this way.  that’s what i want to do.  ❞  he’s put his life on hold so many times to do just that, and he’ll continue to do that, too.  he thinks it over for a moment, thinking about corey.  this is worth a shot —- if they’re really trying to find a way to work peacefully together  (  and maybe, it’ll help theo, too.  )   ❝  i don’t know what it’s like for corey,  ❞   he says quietly, looking back up at him.  ❝  i— i don’t even know if he trusts ME.  and maybe that’s because i don’t understand him. ❞   he pauses,  shrugging his shoulders.  ❝  i don’t know if he’s up for it —-  maybe he’s not —  but  .  .  .   it’d be nice, i’m sure, if —-  if you could help him out.  help me out,  too.  help me understand,  ❞   he insists.  he understands that corey wasn’t receptive to theo the first time around.  but maybe if they’re all in it together —-  if theo is helping corey understand, and both of them are helping corey understand,  they can really make a difference for him.  scott doesn’t have the best history with corey, but he still cares.  and if he’s part of this pack, he wants to make sure he can help him as best as he can.

he lets out a soft laugh that doesn’t hold much humor and shrugs his shoulders.  sure,  he’s special and he’s recognized as such,  but not in the way that he wants to be.  he’s seen for his powers and not much more.  he craves to be anything but ‘the séance,’  so viktor’s words don’t mean that much to him,  since he can only take them in one way.  ❝  well,  thanks,  but sometimes,  i’d rather NOT be,  ❞  he shrugs.  at least,  in their dad’s eyes.  he shakes his head and furrows his brows.  ❝  if i was here,  it wouldn’t be so quiet and since dad WASN’T here,  we could do whatever we wanted!  it sounds like a great time!  ❞  maybe viktor isn’t having fun on his own,  but klaus is confident he could change that.  ❝  we’re not having fun out there,  i can promise you that.  ❞  klaus is always just wanting to be DONE when they’re out there.  his grin widens as he watches him,  head nodding quickly . ❝  it makes sense!  ❞  he assures.  ❝  i mean,  well,  yeah,  you chopped off your hair,  so of course that feels lighter,  but…  yeah,  feeling like you.  that feels lighter.  i know what you mean.  ❞  in those moments where he is allowed to express himself,  he gets that same feeling.  ❝  who cares if allison is mad?  she doesn’t control you!  and she’ll get over it.  ❞

 viktor may never understand this.  in this house, the only people worth anything are those with powers, and their father in association —- not even viktor gets to share that limelight with them.  he’s a nobody, he’s invisible — the forgotten child, the one left in the dark.  it’s almost frustrating to hear him say he wishes he wasn’t special,  because viktor would do anything to be  (  not because he wants to be special, exactly;  but he wants to be part of the team.  )  though, he also knows that he can’t fully understand what it’s like for klaus, so he nods.  ❝  i don’t—  i don’t get it,  ❞  he admits, his shoulders shrugging lightly.  ❝  but,  i’m sorry.  ❞   his way of trying to say he understands anyway, at least to an extent.  he respects him, so if klaus doesn’t love it, then viktor will take that.  viktor’s face starts to light up at the idea, and he suddenly finds himself wishing klaus could stay back.  maybe that’s what he really wants— just the company.  ❝  do you, um—- ❞   it almost feels wrong to ask, but he’s having a good day, he and klaus are having a good moment, he doesn’t want that to go to waste.  ❝  — think dad would believe you if you told him you were too sick for a mission?  ❞   he asks the question in a hushed tone, hopeful— even though it still feels out of line.   viktor takes a moment to look over at him.  there’s a reason he asked him, a reason he trusted klaus with this —  because he sees it, too, the way he expresses himself in a certain way and is more comfortable for it.  ❝  thank you, klaus, ❞   he says quietly.  it’s a big thank you, so he can only hope he really understands.  he looks down, shrugging his shoulders and running his heel against the floor.  ❝  i know, but—  she just liked brushing my hair,  and.  .  .  ❞   and he liked that, having that thing with allison, but he also knows that klaus is right  (  it’s just hard not to assume he’ll be a burden regardless.  )  ❝  hey,  um, i think you’d look good with longer hair.  i don’t know if you ever thought about it, but—  i don’t know.  ❞

❝  good.  i’d be questioning his state of mind if he was keen on seeing me. well, i’d be questioning it more than i already do,  ❞  he speaks with a clear bitterness in his voice.  the distaste he has for liam is REAL and he’s not going to hide it for hayden’s sake.  eyes roll at her comment and he shakes his head.  ❝  if they’re coming here for anyone,  it’s not going to be me.  unless you mean to try to kill me,  then yes,  they’d come here for me.  ❞  though,  he’s deliberately not arguing that they wouldn’t come here for hayden.  he can try to plant that idea in her head as much as he wants,  but he knows it’s not the truth.  she IS part of that pack,  as much as he hates it.  they’d help her.  he noticed.  he noticed as soon as he got here how different it was,  the lack of freedom when it came to shifting,  the unfamiliar territory around here.  it’s worth it,  being away from beacon hills,  but he truly does miss that part of it all.  ❝  it is nice,  isn’t it?  ❞  he speaks quietly,  not making eye contact with her now.  the suggestion makes his brows raise.  ❝  do you want to?  i don’t know if you can get much better than those woods.  i mean…  that place was my territory.  ❞  he made is such,  by living out there as long as he did.  ❝  but yeah,  i would…  i’d be interested in finding some place new.  ❞

hayden rolls her eyes, wondering if theo will ever be able to talk about her friends without finding a way to slip some sort of insult in —- she’s gotten better at not always being quick to shoot one back, though, because she can tell he’s trying to be respectful of her, so she’s tried to do the same.  ❝  really?  ❞   she mumbles, scoffing back at him.  ❝  theo, they don’t want to kill you.  ❞   she pauses, lips pursed together as she thinks for a moment.  ❝  well, maybe a little, but—-  you’re with me,  ❞   she reminds him.  ❝  and they know that.  they respect that.  ❞   question it constantly, maybe, but hayden’s pack trusts her to know her limits, and she and theo have shared a space for a long time now —  they’ve made it work.  he’s still not her favorite person, but there are things about him that she’s grateful for for having.  she knows val is, too.  she hesitates for a moment;  she’s always drawn a line with him,  they’re allies and they’re acquaintances, but she never wanted to put herself in a position in which he had any power over her, or they get too comfortable in some sort of ‘ pack. ‘  but — in some way, that’s what they may be.  they have to look out for each other here.  they don’t know what they’re up against and there’s a reason they’ve stuck together so far.    she finally lets out a sigh and nods her head.   ❝  yeah,   it’d be good for me.  us.  and—- ❞   a pause before she goes on.  ❝  probably shouldn’t do it alone.  ❞   they don’t know what could be out there.  they have to make sure it’s safe for both of them first.

it actually will make klaus trust dave MORE out on the battlefield now that he knows he’s not always so sure of what he’s doing.  it’s HONEST.  klaus values that honesty and it makes him feel more UNDERSTOOD by dave since he feels the same.  neither of them are alone.  ❝  well,  i don’t know how the rest of the guys here feel,  but we can pretend together then,  ❞  he assures.  at least THEY will know where the other stands and they can help each other  (even though klaus isn’t quite sure what kind of help he could be.)  ❝  that’s alright!  ❞  he claims quickly.  ❝  if anyone else wants my attention,  then they need to be trying a lot harder because you’ve gotten it immediately.  i like it though.  ❞  klaus doesn’t mind making friends here,  but he hasn’t met anyone quite as perfect as DAVE.  his head shakes quickly,  grin pulling on his lips to tell him he agrees with him.  ❝  no.  no,  there’s nothing wrong with being different,  ❞  he confirms.  ❝  i’m pretty different.  ❞  the words are spoken with a slight laugh.  and dave likes him,  right?  so he’s doing something correctly.  ❝  different is good.  ❞

dave grins back at him, nodding his head.  ❝  together, sure thing.  we’ll do that, ❞   he agrees.  it seems like something that reassures klaus —-therefore, it reassures dave, too.  his eyes widen slightly, surprised by his words —- and by the way it makes him feel.  it causes a blush to form over his features as he lets out a soft, shy chuckle.  ❝  well—-  i  .  .  .   ❞  he pauses,  flustered, grinning back at him.  ❝  i like it too, klaus. ❞   he says his name softly, and even he notices it —- the way he uses his first name so personally; he doesn’t do that with anyone else here, and yet, it just seems right with him.  he looks back at him thoughtfully, nodding his head at his words.  ❝  you are,  ❞   he notes with a nod.  ❝  and i think that’s a good thing, y’know?  you’re different —- maybe we needed that around here.  i know i did. ❞

his head tilts back and forth and he lets out a dramatic sigh.  ❝  i’ll want more everywhere,  ❞  he admits.  dave just does that to him and he’s wanted just a kiss for so long.  of course he’s going to want that if he kisses him on the cheek.  and he thinks dave wants that too.  that thought is confirmed the moment klaus feels fingers underneath his chin and he’s pulled in for a kiss.  his breath catches,  but he doesn’t waste a moment before kissing him back,  finally letting out a breath against him.  his hand moves to rest gently on the forearm of the hand that rests under his chin,  just wanting more touch.  though,  after a few moments,  klaus can’t help but SMILE,  breaking the kiss in the process.  ❝  oh,  no,  i think i’m a bad influence on you,  ❞  he teases lightly.  ❝  or a good one.  actually,  i think i’m a really good one because i really liked that.  ❞

his features are already turning red as their lips press together.  it’s not like him to misbehave at work, always wanting to set a good example for his students --- but the way it feels to kiss klaus can’t possibly count as misbehaving.  it just feels right.  when he feels klaus’s smile break the kiss, he can’t help but to let out a soft laugh, smiling brightly back at him.  ❝  you’re a very bad influence on me,  ❞  he corrects, raising a brow.  ❝  in a good way. ❞   his hand slides down, meeting his to hold it gently.  ❝  i’ve got a lot more where that came from, so--- i’m thinking you and i pick up where we left off after school,  ❞  he insists with a grin.
