@paladindansexual

probably because you love Quality Danse Context™️ (and I love you anon)
Wow, can you believe they built the Hoover Dam from Fallout: New Vegas?
“By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion”
Do you guys hc a first name for Danse? If so, what is it?

nate and lucille were huge baseball fans…
whenever lucille visits diamond city, she can’t help but think of how amused nate, a yankees fan, would be to see fenway park turned into some shanty town.
bonus:
you see, i am firmly in the camp that if the sole survivor and danse’s roles were reversed in blind betrayal, his actions would heavily rely on his affinity with you.
i’ve seen a lot of people say that he, without a doubt, would kill you. and i both agree and disagree. danse is flawed in the sense that his loyalty, while normally a strong suit, is his biggest weakness. his whole entire life, danse has had this desire to be somebody, which is… heavily evident in numerous of his affinity talks. he is horrified of being a nobody, of being that man in rivet city who sold scrap for a living.
as such, he is deeply loyal to the brotherhood for giving him a purpose in life. for giving him the opportunity to, in his eyes, change and better the world. you have to remember, danse joined lyon’s brotherhood, who essentially acted as fallout 3′s knights in shining armor (no pun intended)… of course an idealistic merchant from rivet city would leap at the opportunity to join them. this loyalty for the brotherhood has driven danse to do numerous things he’s been uncertain about… most notably, killing cutler. in his words, “it’s what i was taught. i don’t know if it was right.”
one thing i rarely see people mention is danse’s crippling fear of losing those close to him. and when i say fear, i mean half of his affinity conversations revolve around this idea (ie. krieg and cutler’s respective deaths). in his third affinity conversation, he tries beating around the bush, but ultimately talks about how this has been affecting him deeply.
so this brings me back to my first point… if the sole survivor and danse’s roles were reversed in blind betrayal, his actions would heavily rely on his affinity with you.
with neutral affinity or lower? yeah… the sole survivor would be dead. he’d feel bad about it, because they had potential, but ultimately, his loyalty to the brotherhood would prevail.
however, once he begins confiding in you about krieg, cutler, and everything else in between? i can’t help but feel he would refuse to let the past repeat itself. his whole entire second affinity conversation revolves around this idea: he is afraid of losing the sole survivor. i can only imagine that fear would deepen the closer he gets to them.
maybe there would be a speech check, with it becoming easier to pass depending on how high your affinity is with him. if you fail the check, he would execute the sole survivor, but feel horrible guilt. his mental health would take a drastic toll on him. not really sure what would happen to him after that… either way, it wouldn’t be too good.
however, if you pass it, which wouldn’t be too hard, i feel like he would let the sole survivor live. at that point, his loyalty to the sole survivor - as a love interest, friend, or confidant - would overtake his desire to follow maxson’s orders. not only that, but consider what i mentioned above: he is afraid of losing the sole survivor.
these two facts alone (loyalty to the sole survivor and a fear of the past repeating itself) would give him reason enough to let the sole survivor live and leave the commonwealth. and don’t get me wrong, i don’t think he’d drastically change his mind on synths, per say… he would completely understand where maxson is coming from. ten years of listening to brotherhood propaganda will do that to you. him sparing the sole survivor would be more of a brief – just leave the commonwealth. quickly. this is all i can do for you – kinda deal.
and after that? who knows. i just personally disagree with the theory that he would always execute the sole survivor, no matter his relationship with them.
Paladin Danse after I’ve modified one weapon: I’m just so glad you’re taking the Brotherhood’s ideals to heart :)
Me, knowing damn well I’m going to join the Railroad:
Who you used to be crawling back to you, slowly but surely
Danse Macabre (Danse x F!SS, 657 words)
(I wrote this a long time ago mostly to test how serious of a thing I could write centered solely around a name pun. Just found it on my desktop. I hope someone reads it and enjoys it?)
The first time they met, he sized her up like they did in Diamond City, like they did in Goodneighbor, like she’d been sized up a million times in the hellish world that the bombs and humanity created. She stood defiant before him, a few feet shorter because of his power armor. And so their dance began.
It began as a partnership of circumstance. She needed a way into the Glowing Sea, and he needed someone that could follow orders. So she helped him, and he vouched for her when it mattered. The Brotherhood had never seen a stranger pair. But they both knew that all dances come to an end.
They fought, side by side, completely in sync. It’s a strange thing to watch, how someone seemingly so dainty fights in bulky power armor. Dainty is no longer the word he’d use. Regardless of what the enemy is, she overcomes them. Death and the maiden dance with one another, always as if it is the last time.
He sees her in Sanctuary, a sense of old world blues all around her. There’s something about the way she moves around the broken-down house that’s a little too comfortable, but everyone has their stories, and not everyone is ready to tell them. She dances around the subject of her past, and so does he.
Eventually, he hears her full story; and now they both know that the other has seen loss. She tells him she is willing to die for the Brotherhood. But they both have their secrets, and he sees through hers. She dances on the edge of a great divide, with no one to catch her at the bottom.
She tells him that she cares about him too much to die like all the others he’s lost. He says that she’ll never have the opportunity to. She tells him not to make promises he can’t ever hope to keep, and that mischievous look dances in her eyes.
She comes back from the Institute with a different feel about her. They return to Sanctuary together, and he watches as she smashes the blue crib she lovingly repaired. The rest of the house doesn’t seem so familiar all of a sudden. The embers of the fire dance low that night, and die by morning.
She lingers in Sanctuary longer than usual. The room with the crib is stripped bare, and then refurnished. The last night they are there, she nails a Brotherhood banner to the wall, and tells him that the room is his if he wants it. Sparks dance in her eyes as he tells her goodnight.
She takes a break from all of her problems for a while, and he goes with her to Diamond City. She cuts off most of her hair. He thinks she’s beautiful, although he hasn’t admitted it to himself or to her. The highlight of the trip is barfighting with Travis. “Let’s dance,” she smirks, pulling up her sleeves.
She leaves him in the Glowing Sea, another routine operation, with a hug and a promise to be careful. Of course, everything goes completely wrong. He runs, and hopes that no one follows; but she does, just like always. She arrives, almost too willing to hear his side. They’ve danced this dance for far too long.
Maxson comes for him, and he is already tired of running. She steps between them, eyes as defiant as the moment they first met. He knows that she would die for him, that she would defy her superior officer, all for an abomination like him. This dance ends on her terms, and she is not afraid.
She does not go back to the Brotherhood. They’ve lost their best chance. She tells him about the Institute, finally. He tears down the Brotherhood’s flag that hangs above his bed, and spends the night in hers instead. And together they dance the danse macabre, although neither of them are ready to die.
