Finishing his shave, Poe was surprised to see himself in the mirror. He looked like he used to. More cuts and bruises than he was used to on his face but with the beard gone, he could finally recognise his own face. Cleaning the last of the foam away, Poe caught the reflection of someone looking in the mirror. “Have I missed a spot?” he asked still concentrating on cleaning his face. “Don’t be shy. You’ve been looking long enough, you can tell me if I’ve missed something. I won't mind.”
“Nothing missed.” She’s leaning against the doorframe, It got lonely sometimes, staying in her own space - a novelty in its own right, having grown up with three siblings - but too quiet, too, and a little unnerving as well. “Just antsy.” With no X-wings, and no ability to get the Falcon off the ground, she felt more and more like her feet were being stuck to the ground.
ghostflown:
HERA SMILED, BOTH to herself and aubrey. that feeling was entirely familiar wanting to fly whatever you could, whenever you could. she had grown up feeling that exact way, shaped, into wanting to take action and do something, by a home world that had never not been at war against some higher power. wars that, because they were exactly that, felt like lifetimes ago. except, if hera was right in believing she still had a tactical mind in this new life, the wars that were being fought now were heavy with similarities from the ones she had grown up and grown old in.
she knew few specifics about the first order, but the treaty seemed . . . felt strange it certainly sounded like they had risen from the remnants of the empire, and was not unlike terrorists and extremists and dictators from the years of the clone wars. and, that only made sense. still, she was still feeling lost, a little confused, really, as to why she was back. on top of that, this world was strange, unlike most places hera had seen before. still, she could learn. would learn all that she could, from aubrey, and other friends and allies, both old and new.
mostly x-wings. her smile remained, gaze cast into the wilderness, her mind now flooded with memories and questions about what was to come. “ i had my own ship, from the time i was a teenager. a light freighter. so, mostly that. ” she had wondered what had happened to it. where was it now? “ but, other things. x-wings, too. a-wings. you know how it is. ”
“i do.”
she’d flown a ton of things in the flight academy, even if the resistance mostly used x-wings. the mechanics of it were, a lot of the time, similar. there were always oddities, and she was better at flying some things than others -
“i’m terrible at U-wings.”
it wasn’t an admission she was afraid to make. everyone had their flaws, even if they didn’t appear to at most. her eyes scanned the area. more than anything, she wanted to find what that creature had been - if there were one, there had to be more, right?
and if there were more, aubrey held onto that belief - there had to be a food source.
she refused to starve on this ocean-less planet.
“have you ever steered watercraft?”

kcightcfren:
“ WELL, I SURELY CAN END THIS DAY FOR YOU IF YOU SO WISH. ” she laughs, but it’s something twisted. forced. UNNATURAL. her eyes are dangerous as she gazes down upon the seemingly frail girl. “ of course it is. how could you be so foolish. ” disgust is heard. we will REIGN goes unspoken.
“See? This is why this is never going to work.” Aubrey’s mouth twists in annoyance. “Thank you for speaking your objectives so clearly. I’m sure Kylo Ren will be really pleased with you.”
HERA GLANCED AT the castle they were leaving behind for the time, and then to aubrey briefly, the latest of the people she had met in this new life. they trudged along, in and out of woods and alongside streams, keeping up quiet conversation every once in a while. hera didn’t mind, she had feeling rather lost in her thoughts as of lately, and aubrey seemed to be very friendly. that made the job easier though, none of them were unfamiliar with working with those on the more difficult side. on top of that, people were hungry, expectedly, and the sooner they could find something substantial, the better.
and, then, THERE IT WAS. it ran by quickly, however many feet in front of them, and she turned to aubrey instinctively. it made sense to at least wait a while, not necessarily camp out, but see if they could let it come to them, or perhaps they would spot another, or a whole pack. a little while later, the two of them could actively pursue the animal, if the former did not work. either way, it would be important to report whatever their findings were to the rest back at the castle. the pair settled, camouflaging themselves the best they could, in the wildlife around them. after a few minutes of calm silence, hera spoke up, casually, “ so, you’re a pilot? x-wing ?? . . . or ?? ”
@pamarthen.
“i fly whatever i can get my hands on.” aubrey’s voice is very quiet, unwilling to risk scaring away whatever that had been if it had any ideas of getting closer. as far as anyone knew, there were no creatures on this planet. no fauna, just flora.
they were it. they were alone. but if there was life here, that meant there had to be a food source as well. aubrey’s whole body itched to go back and tell the general, or poe. both. there was a treaty, sure. aubrey was still wary, still unsure of how to come to terms with it after a week.
poe had signed it, and she trusted him with her life. had to, because she put her life in his hands every time they went into the sky. they all did. put their lives in each others hands, depended on each other to stay alive. how long could a treaty last with a group that had been trying to kill them for years? aubrey wouldn’t break it, not unless she had to.
( but she didn’t like it, either. didn’t like the idea that this treaty could last, and that they’d all just get away with it. that though the war would be over, they’d go on living happily and free in the wake of the lives that they’d ruined. )
“mostly x-wings,” she amends. “nothing right now, unfortunately. what did you - do you - “
