ELLE & Hugo Boss Celebrate Women in Washington, D.C. Power List at Kreeger Museum
Last night, I attended the annual ELLE magazine and Hugo Boss (the major sponsor again) cocktail reception and dinner which honors and celebrate powerful women in D.C. Held at the stunning (talk about ART COLLECTION - THE MONET ROOM is to DIE for) Kreeger Museum on Foxhall Road, NW (why had I never been here before in all my years of jumping and jaunting around town?) the gathering boasted a list of paramount guests including Honorees U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
ELLE editor-in-chief Robbie Myers and Hugo Boss Americas president & CEO Dr. Gerrit Rützel hosted and greeted guests at the commencement of dinner with words of humble appreciation for this year’s prestigious honorees and past honorees who were in attendance, but the message was loud and clear: We need more women in power and leadership positions.
We are not there yet. But ELLE will do its part in bringing these women the recognition they deserve, in video (beautifully done by local award winning filmmaker Susan Koch), in the renown magazine, and of course, in person with this private affair. Being the 6th annual dinner, one might think, who else can be on the list in the future? I believe the future is extremely bright and I even called a dear friend of mine, Tara de Nicolas Duckworth, who started Fashion for Paws for Washington Humane Society years ago. Through her passion and fortitude, her infectious energy and creativity, F4P was able to raise over a million dollars in about 7 years. She left a few years ago to find happiness (read: a kick ass career with Thor Equities) in NYC, but I told her this morning on the phone that we needed more women like her back in D.C. I am hopeful she will return and one day and eventually be on this list.
This year’s honorees—featured in the April issue of ELLE—include Gina Adams, Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at FedEx; Jean Case, CEO of the Case Foundation; Karen Dunn, partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner; Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions and former U.S. Representative for Arizona’s 8th District; U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, U.S. Representative for Washington’s 5th District; Lisa Monaco, U.S. Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor; Janet Murguía, President of the National Council of La Raza; Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America; and Kristen Soltis Anderson, pollster, pundit, and author of The Selfie Vote.
In addition to 2016 honorees and the hosts, guests at the dinner included past ELLE Women in Washington honorees Michelle Freeman, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Juleanna Glover, Jennifer Hing, Sheila Johnson, Kim Kingsley, Maria Teresa Kumar, Ambassador Capricia Marshall, Heather Podesta, Jen Psaki, Stephanie Schriock, Neera Tanden, and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, along with Elena Albritton, Kathleen Biden, Senator Cory Booker, Julie Burton, Steve Clemons, Rebecca Cooper, Maria Cuomo Cole, Amy Dacey, Izette Folger, Laurie Knight, Emily Lenzer, Jennifer Maguire Isham, Congresswoman Martha McSally, Melissa Moss, ELLE Publisher Kevin O'Malley, Eve O’Toole, Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, Ambassador Peter Selfridge and Parita Selfridge, Richard Stengel, Jennifer Tapper, Tina Tchen, Kristian Denny Todd, Nina Totenberg, Maria Trabocchi, Mariella Trager, Eun Yang and more.
Robbie Myers, Janet Murguía, Jean Case, Karen Dunn, Cecile Richards, Gina Adams, Gabby Giffords, Lisa Monaco, Kristie Soltis Anderson, and Maria Teresa Kumar were were dressed by BOSS.
Myers invited guests to participate in ELLE’s new #WeNominate initiative to encourage more women to run for office, by nominating a woman they’d like to see run for local or national office in the mobile Twitter video booth on-site. #WeNominate launches officially next week, but nominations can be submitted now at ELLE.com/wenominate.
