Pandora easily loses her focus, leaving her prone to zoning out if a conversation or task can’t hold her attention. Her mother used to lovingly refer to those moments as her conversing with the shadows. They were moments where Pandora was physically there but mentally somewhere else. School assisted in curving the behavior by stressing when it was important to pay attention and giving her something to fidget with but she never quite grew out of the habit.
Luna is under a year at this point in time and first time parenthood is particularly stressful for Pandora. Only because her biggest fear involves her small family being used as leverage by either side.
Pandora appreciates the luxury of not having picked a side on things. There may be assumptions that she chose the side the Yaxleys did but she has not officially claimed who she supports and intends to remain neutral unless forced into properly siding with her parents.
Jewelry-making, painting, and creating spells are Pandora’s hobbies. She happily sells her own jewelry and doesn’t mind using muggle influences when creating pieces. Spell work has been a crapshoot as of recent, with Pandora making small adaptations to commonly used spells.
Pandora masks some of her tendencies, having reminders from her mother on a loop at this point about needing to be ladylike and behave in a respectable manner. She has been working to outgrow those mannerisms but it is proving to be a process.
Where: By a Daily Prophet newsstand
When: Late October, mid-morning
Who: Open
Remus clenched and unclenched his hands as he read the headline over and over. It wasn’t the top article, but it did start on page one, and that was never good.
Werewolves: The Rising Epidemic Threatening Society.
Numbers weren’t on the rise. Remus knew that. He’d spent the last few years as steeped in their world as he could after a lifetime of keeping himself apart. Werewolf numbers were stable. It wasn’t a rising anything, much less a threat. But why acknowledge that people hurt by this disease required compassion, not vilification. He’d spent so long hearing the anger and vitriol that Remus wasn’t even as mad as he felt like he should be. Just exhausted and done. This was par for the course.
He realized someone was standing next to him, and Remus whirled around with a forced smile on his face. “I prefer to view the news this way,” he said, almost hiding his vocal strain. “It’s easier to dismiss the drivel when I haven’t paid for it.”
“I could have written something better,” Pandora scoffed, features going red upon realizing she exclaimed such a thing as close to the newsstand as she had. Ordinarily she would have kept her thoughts to herself but there was no denying the writing had gone downhill.
“I haven’t had a need to get it delivered in over a year,” She added with a shake of her head, voice hushed due to acknowledging she didn’t need to seem to vocal about her distaste.
“Frank and I are the same….” Alice mused with a little laugh. “It’s a surprise it’s not happened yet.” Although Alice was being a little more careful these days. She knew that they were both not ready for a baby now. It made part of her sad, but her husband’s health would always come first. She knew that one day it would happen. But it had to be the right time. Alice knew Frank one day would make a great father, and she really was excited to see it happen one day.
“We will just have to make her try all the other sweets so she gets a different favourite instead.” She mused, grinning. She would happily help with that. Anything that meant she could have sweets would make her happy. “Oh yes.” She smiled, nodding at her cousin. “I would love that. I’ll ask Frank tonight. We could come at the weekend?”
✰
“It was a surprise it happened so soon,” Pandora laughed. “I was hoping I took after my mum on the matter since they struggled with having me and my brother. My parents are overjoyed though. At least until they find out we aren’t looking to have another one any time soon.” Thankfully, the heir nonsense didn’t fall on her shoulders but it didn’t change the fact that Luna was the first grandchild.
“She’ll love that once her teeth come in,” She nodded. Admittedly, she wasn’t too keen on introducing sweets quite yet but she could imagine her daughter would have a similar sweet tooth to the one she had while growing up. “Definitely, we could even do dinner if you wanted?”
Pandora nodded and held Luna close to her, smiling down at her a moment before shifting her attention aback to Narcissa. The topic of children was a hard one for her. Not that she hadn’t wanted Luna since that certainly wasn’t the case. There was merely the matter of having believed the timing could have been better. She and Xeno hadn’t been taking preventative measures but there had been the slightest hope that she inherited similar struggles to what her parents had when it came to conceiving. “I’m just hoping having had her doesn’t turn into being nudged to have another close after,” She sighed. “My brother hasn’t been in nearly as much a rush to get a family started.”
She gave another nod after that and offered a small smile. “That would be brilliant.” Oddly enough, something as mundane as tea was something she could look forward to. “Owl me and I’ll make it work.”
❦
Narcissa gave Pandora an understanding smile at those words. “I understand what you mean,” she said softly. Many people didn’t want to have children in the current political climate. It was dangerous. And she certainly understood not wanting to be pushed into anything. She had been fighting her mother on that for years.
The smile grew a little bit. “Perfect,” she said with a smile as she purchased the necklace.
Sybill hummed to herself as she scrolled along a bookshelf, using vibes and impulse more than true looking to determine which books she pulled off the shelf. The flash of color that one, a sense of intrigue from this… She let that guide her as she removed each book to read the back and determine if it was the one. She’d had no success with this method today yet, but she knew from past experience that if she kept at it long enough, eventually she’d find the one.
With a rather hefty tome in her hands, Sybill looked up at the sound of a voice. “No?” she asked. “What if I want something gloomy and ominous? Will it fit the bill then?” She knew the world of literature held a larger display beyond those two descriptions, but she was curious what the witch would say. Swirls of color, misty and promising. Sybill tried to ignore it, focusing instead on the little baby pressed against her. “Why hello there,” she said quietly, looking directly at the child without actually greeting the other adult in the occasion.
✰
“Semi-informative tome featuring a few questionable uses of spellwork and an unnecessary love interest,” Pandora shrugged. “Ominous gloom can be found in its sequel.” She wasn’t necessarily a fan of either work but that merely came down to knowing its muggle counterpart had the better storyline.
As if on cue, a bubble of laughter escaped from Luna, the infant cooing from Sybill’s fleeting attention. “I suppose that’s her way of saying hello,” Pandora added, attention still on the shelf ahead of her. It shifted briefly so she could press a kiss to the baby’s head then she grabbed a book at random. “I’m still not certain of what drew me to this section of books.”
Tilden looked down at the pendant, wondering exactly what his mother would like. “Maybe I should do something custom for her.” He said, chewing the inside of his cheek in contemplation. “I think she’d probably like an orange stone in the middle, with green ones on the outside.” Looking around at the rest of the jewelry laid out, he didn’t see any other combinations like that, and wondered if it would even look good together. But he’d seen his mother wearing those colours together for years, and he always thought they looked nice together. “Do you think that would look nice?” Tilden had never been very good at choosing gifts, especially jewelry, but he knew his mum would love anything he brought her.
“I’ve been good,” Tilden answered half honestly. He was, technically, doing well, but he certainly could be better. Besides the fact that he had to spend his weekend working with Severus, the entire war and everything around them was always on his mind. Of course he would save Pandora from having to listen to him. “Aw, that’s too bad, I was hoping to see little Luna. You’ll have to bring her over soon, I think she’ll absolutely love the kids, and I have a few chicks who are ready to hatch any day now. How have you all been, though?”
✰
“I can get it done within the week,” She beamed. “Although I may need to — Hold on, I might have them with me.” Pandora took a step back to look through one of the containers she used for traveling with her wares. “There we are,” She murmured and offered a container of small gems to him. “Any of those shades for the green or did you have a different one in mind? I don’t carry the larger gems on me so the orange may need to be something you trust me on.”
She offered a nod when Tilden answered. Good was as good an answer that could be given with everything else going on. She was tempted to attempt to push for more information but the mention of animals was far too good of an attention grabber. “Oh definitely,” Pandora nodded. “Hopefully it won’t turn into her shouting at the kids. If it does that’s Xeno’s end of things, not mine.” A laugh and shake of her head followed after. “We’ve been well enough all things considered. Luna’s mobile now. I can barely stand how big she’s getting.” She had been far too anxious about beginning a family with a war going on but there was no denying her daughter was a good distraction from the chaos. “Next it’ll be her taking cupboards apart.”
“One thing I am not looking forward to when Frank and I eventually start a family.” She hoped it wouldn’t be too much longer, but who knew how long this war was going to take. “I suppose liquorice isn’t so bad…” She mused with a laugh. It could be worse. It was not her favourite time of sweet, but it was better than some other less nice cravings. Alice was only hoping she would not have ones that were too crazy when she did eventually have a baby.
“Oh…. maybe thats why you’re so strange.” She teased with a little grin as she looked at her cousin. She loved being able to have some banter with some of her cousins. “Yeah. maybe a good thing you don’t want them. Doesn’t sound that yummy”
✰
“I would have hoped to put things off a little longer,” Pandora admitted. “We weren’t exactly being careful about it though so she wasn’t entirely unexpected.” It was a particularly complicated line of having agreed they were ready if it did happen and being thrown off at getting pregnant sooner than anticipated.
“Probably,” She grinned. “Wouldn’t have it any other way though. Minus hoping the licorice doesn’t do the same to little Luna of course.” Between her and Xeno’s tendencies, they were setting themselves up for an interesting family. “You and Frank will have to visit soon. Luna started crawling and I don’t think I’ve seen anything cuter than her pulling herself across the living room.”
What could have been - One of the serious relationships Pandora had before marrying Xenophilius. Potential of still having feelings for each other/openly flirting but nothing coming out of it besides playful banter. (0/1)
Business partner - Someone that dabbles with charms and encourages her experimentation with spells of her own. (0/1)
Just as sane as I am - Pandora could use a friend that’s as quirky as she can be. Although good at masking those tendencies, it would be interesting to have someone that doesn’t question her “weirder” tendencies and actively encourages her let that side show instead of trying to hide it. (0/1)
Playgroup/Coffee dates - A network of characters with kids for Pandora to bond with. Weekly coffee or tea dates that involve letting the kids play with each other and getting to check in with each other. Basically, mama can use another parent to talk to about raising a family during wartime. (0/?)
Plots
Order in one ear, Death Eaters in the other - It’s not something Pandora is vocal about, but the Lovegoods have taken a neutral stance on the war. From Pandora’s angle, it seems like a good move since it’s the least likely to cause her to butt heads with family and acquaintances. She wants what is best for her little family and I would love to see a few characters from either side try to convince her otherwise/use the safety of her or her loved ones as an excuse to try to sway her. (Adding note that her brother is marked so added drama on that)
What’s the risk? - A chance for a traditional pureblood to try to get Pandora to better follow the purist path. She has the pureblood marriage and family going but has used marriage as an excuse to think for herself. The neutral stance is one she is content with but her brother and parents are under the impression she sided with the Death Eaters. A character can use this to their advantage and attempt to blackmail her into keeping to the narrow path.
With Luna safely wrapped against her chest, Pandora had taken off to purchase up a book on charms. A bit of light reading - at least what she would refer to as light reading - to work on strengthening a few of the protective spells she was using on some of her pieces.
“Yeah, I would rethink that one if you were expecting something light and cheery,” Pandora murmured. She usually wasn’t one for interrupting others while shopping but she couldn’t hold the comment back after spotting the book in their hand. “Not a quick read either but I would hope you were aware of that given the size of it.”
Bellatrix stared at the woman. She supposed it was a good thing to hope for, but it was such a strange thing to simply come out and say, given the heavy implications behind it. “Hopefully not,” she agreed faintly. “Though cursed may be a strong word for it. In some legends they’re meant to be comforts to those who can see them.”
It was easier (and felt safer than a discussion about the potential of an infant gaining the ability to see death creatures) to focus on child development milestones. “Six and crawling? How precocious of her. She’ll be walking soon at that rate, and you’ll have to keep a rope on her.” Draco had taken much longer to learn to walk—some unkind voices tried to say it was because he was barely out of anyone’s arms long enough to practice for the first year of his life. Bella quieted those voices with prejudice. “What is her name?”
“I got too many odd looks for having recognized them during my second year,” Pandora admitted. No other details were necessary but she could vividly recall her peers having claimed she was seeing things. It had been a relief to learn she wasn’t but the breakdown that her head of house had witnessed hadn’t been a worthwhile part of things. “I could see that,” She added and left the topic at that.
“Far too precocious,” Pandora laughed. “She hasn’t hit the stage of going through cupboards yet but it made us realize we weren’t prepared for her being mobile.” The idea of her walking was one Pandora wasn’t excited for. Admittedly, she would foster all the independence she could but there was no denying she worried it would turn into Luna being less receptive to being coddled. “Luna,” She beamed. “Between calling Xeno my sun and my mother having called me her stars, it seemed fitting to add a moon into things.”
Narcissa smiled at those words, laughing softly. “Well, take advantage of that while you can,” she said, studying the baby girl. “She’s very sweet.” Her smile faltered a little bit. “Sometimes I wish Draco was a girl. I love him very much, but I’ve always wanted a little girl. And it’s hard to say if…” If I’ll ever have a daughter, she thought as she trailed off. Her first pregnancy hadn’t been easy. What happened if they were able to have more children?
She took in a deep breath and tried to shake the thought off, giving Pandora a smile again. “Later this week at the Manor, then?” she asked. “We can have tea.”

“She was a quite extraordinary witch, you know, but she did like to experiment, and one of her spells went badly wrong one day. . . It was rather horrible.”
