It really annoys me that people want to deny the fact that Mike was the most important part of Els life and he that he understands her the most. Iāve seen people say that it isnāt realistic for El to have chosen Mike to talk to in the void, that she wouldāve rather talked with Hopper, Max or Will. Iām not denying that these people were important to her, but El said herself that Mike understands her the most and that makes a lot of sense because El and Mike have been dating for like 3 years at that point. In season 3 Lucas and Will were complaining that Mike was constantly hanging out with El, Mike was the first person who she really got to know after she escaped the lab and he took care of her. So it makes 100% sense that she choice to talk to Mike in the void.
To add on this, I need to remind you guys that while everyone saw El as the superhero/the mage (VERY UNDERSTANDABLE since they were kids and it's cool to have a friend that has super powers) but Mike was always all for El's wellbeing. He saw her as just El. El, the love of his life who also has powers. Not El, the girl with powers who is also the love of his life.
Mike has always taken care of El and El knows that Mike would always look out for her with the best intentions. That's why she always asks him to trust her when Mike gets over protective and Mike does trust her every single time.
It wasn't Hopper because they already had many conversations about El's plan. El already asked him to trust her because she's all grown up now.
It wasn't the rest of the party because she wasn't really looking for a conversation that time, her mind's made up and she just had to say good bye. She doesn't have all the time in the world.
It was Mike. It had to be Mike. The one who saw her first. The one who opened his arms to shelter her and give her food and warmth. Her first love & her last good bye.
I'm honestly so pissed off by Mike Wheeler's ending. I've seen plenty of stuff about Eleven's death and how that didn't need to happen at all and I agree with every bit of it. But as a writer, Mike's ending was also bullshit. It was like, "it's okay buddy, you don't need love, you have āØcreativityāØ You're gonna spend too much time writing to need a relationship. You can just imagine the love of your life got a good ending. You can just forever be an outsider watching the people around you be happy :) " Like get out of here.
The thing is, we were not really expecting a happy ending for everyone but giving everyone a happy ending and leaving out 2 people, especially 1 person to yearn for the other 1, NOT EVEN FULLY SURE IF SHE IS STILL ALIVE, that is so so so so cruel for Mike's character.

Lumax: Lucas stalks Max without her knowledge to the point she nicknames him stalker, he also tricks her into meeting him in the back of the arcade so he could tell her classified information

Mileven: Get together after a year of separation and a month from when they reunited (the snowball takes place in December)
The Fandom: Why couldnāt they have been friends! They rushed into this relationship for no reason!

Mileven: Have a very unserious breakup meant for comedic purposes

Lumax: Have admitted to five breakups in the past over very petty things. Max quite literally says that she waits for āLucas to come crawling back to herā

Mileven: Mike is afraid to tell El he loves her out of fear that she would eventually leave him, making it hurt more when she would (supposedly) do
The Fandom: What an awful boyfriend! Jane deserves to be free of his awful toxic influence!
Lumax: Max drives Lucas away out of fear that he would reject her and blame her for wishing death on Billy previous to his death (as shown in her vecna visions during āThe Piggybackā)
The Fandom: How beautiful and angsty!
Mileven: El is angry and humiliated after the roller rink. She has also had traumatic flashbacks recently that have been messing with her head. She is afraid that she is an unloveable monster Mike doesnāt love anymore and she yells at him for it. Mike attempts to explain himself, (after bringing her favorite food) without raising his voice, but ultimately puts his foot in his mouth and regrets it the entire season.
The Fandom: Their relationship is dead, Will had to save it.
Lumax: Max has been ignoring and avoiding Lucas for months, she has no desire to talk to him about anything at all and cruelly rebuffs him at every turn. The only reason she stays in the same room with him again is because she has a day left to live and even then she is still running from him.
The Fandom: If only they would just talk to each other, all of their problems would be solved!
Mileven: Mike dresses in Elās favorite colors, wakes up early to pick flowers that she mentioned missing, and brings her eggos when she hides in her bedroom after the roller rink.
The Fandom: (Blindfolds eyes and closes ears) What an awful boyfriend! He doesnāt even know what she likes!
Mileven: Mike advocates for Elās safety throughout season 3

Mileven: Mikeās love confession helps El to fight back against Vecna and save Max, Nancy, Robin and Steve (they were being choked to death at the time) and creating an opportunity for Nancy to shoot him
The Fandom: That speech was corny as hell, and it didnāt even do anything! El didnāt even like it
Lumax: Lucasā presence and touch are enough to help Max to return from Camazotz.

This side of the fandom always wounds me.
"You're treating her like some kind of machine, when she's not a machine, and I don't want her to die looking for the flayed when they've obviously vanished off the face of the Earth. So, can we please just come up with a new plan? because I love her and I can't lose her again!!"
It will never NOT be insane how in that scene Nancy and Max gaslight Mike into thinking he was being controlling and possessive (when in reality what he was talking about didn't have anything to do with that and he was literally just concerned for her safety) AND the Duffers also gaslit the audience into believing Mike was the one in the wrong, only for the series finale to demonstrate that he has always been right... which wasn't even intentional because apparently the Duffers wholeheartedly believe that El dying was the only solution to everyone else's problems so it's more like "Mike HAS always been right but El's life is less valuable than everyone else's so fuck them both" INSANE.

On todays episode of Mileven depression: When heās telling the story of his friends on how he thinks their lives will be after school, he gives everyone a happy ending but himself because his happy ending is with her and he canāt have one without her. (Iām so sorry)

to the cast of stranger things, we love you. it was a joy to witness you grow and you have all so done wonderfully in your craft.
to the writers & netflix & productionā the hard work and effort you have given would always always be commendable but let's not pretend that with the current media released, it could've been... more? we were not looking for a happy ending. just something that would tie up every bit of mind-trickery-plotline you yourself has opened and introduced.

now moving on but forever in my heart, what you were and what you could have been, mike & el.
I want the awards to give Finn's eyebrows and head veins and doe eyes an honourary award or something because season 2 mike's facial expression when he saw El again + that purple rain scene is yearning incarnated ā¤ļøāš©¹
to the stranger things finale, if it's really the finale:
i know we can't have it all but it was a 30+ min epilogue. We could've seen Suzie, we could've had montages of Max's physical therapy recovery. We could've had Karen uniting with Holly. We could've had a lot of things! Even just quick-second montages š„¹
the thing about the coming out scene, it would've been more effective (scene-wise and continuity-wise) if Vecna tried to attack Will with it but Will, now having the acceptance of his friends and family would be able to deflect and retaliate. That would've given more impact on that scene.
Okay, fanfic idea (pls pls tag me if you know a similar story): the final battle is vecna putting everyone to face their own personal dilemma and them fighting it and looking for an exit that leads them all together and then they fight Vecna/Henry/001.
It reminded me of Thunderbolts and how it was a really nice concept that superhero battles will not always be muscles and power structures. Sometimes it would be mental tolls and mind tricks.
ALSO, it would be very fitting, i guess? For the stranger things team to battle with Vecna mentally/emotionally at first because he is physically stronger and can control people and things with just his mind (telekenis) so the stranger things team battling him through the mind would've been more realistic(???) as it could better nerf him? So they could actually have a chance in fighting him physically???
I will always love them no matter how much they try to assassinate mike
if we're going to stick by the stranger things finale,
the crazy devastatingly tragic part of it is everyone seemed to be a-okay except for mike wheeler. heck, even El in Mike's theory would now be free. But Mike. Mike :((
absolutely haunted by the sheer raw anguish of mike screaming for el, their last kiss, the most passionate and devastating kiss weāve seen on the show. they will always be stranger thingsā greatest love story and this finale only proved that. elās āi love you,ā both of them crying, mike screaming for her over and over again. āi canāt live without youā āi canāt lose her againā āi canāt lose youā. mikeās one constant throughout every single season was his fear of losing her. his pure desperation begging her not to leave him killed me but showed so beautifully how much he loved her. how much they loved each other. āa love so strong it breaks down dimensional barriers.ā
oh mileven. youāll always be the showās greatest love story.
no one but mike directly mentioned el in the epilogue or mourned her, not even a nudge to her in dustinās valedictorian speech. if i were mike and everyone else was giggling except me and my girlfriend i would have blown hawkins up
it's like they forgot her or something. they were friends with her. a photo, some form of mementoā nothing. A disservice to El's character :/
