June 20th is World Refugee Day

This is a reminder that Australia has an absolutely horrible track record on refugees. We detain them indefinitely for years in offshore detention camps (one blind refugee has been detained for 9 years and counting), Australia fights to prevent refugees getting medical care, Scott Morrison froze the humanitarian intake, we turn people back to their country of origin risking them being persecuted, the UN has continuously criticised us for violating international law, disregarding human rights for asylum, and breaching the convention against torture, and there has been such horrible conditions on Manus/Nauru that there has been widespread depression, self harm, and suicide attempts - even among children.

But what can we do to fight back? The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre provides education, legal support, healthcare and food support, as well as employment pathways to refugees.
