University Life VS High School
I get the question quite a lot so I decided to write a post on here! There’s quite a few points to over but i’ll address the main differences because everyone’s experiences will be different. Personally, this is what i’ve come up with:
1. it’s all on you.
In university, whether you are living away from home or not, you are now studying toward a degree which will hopefully create a future career path in professional job or something similar. That being said, no one is going to baby you into doing your work and no one is going to warn you of the responsibilities you bare while taking higher education. In high school, teachers gave you warnings for upcoming quizzes or assignments but in University, all your due dates for the term are given to you in the first week of classes. Therefore, it is up to you to manage your time and get your work done!
2. University is a business, which means $$$
Though this may seem obvious, but university does not come cheap and not everyone can go. If you break it down by class the average university class for me was about $50 each. The money = you paid to be there, the professors and teaching assistants can help you as much as they can but ultimately how you take into account the fees you pay to attend is all up to you.
3. You can pick your classes and do what you love
The selection in university is insane, you can take classes in almost anything imaginable and not feel hindered to have to take a general course like you would have to back in high school. There are also so many paths you can take, the options are endless with majors and minors and so much more!
4. Making friends feels different
Now that you’re exposed to a much larger group of people, making friends - at least for me personally felt different. It was harder to make friends because of the people you were constantly meeting, especially during the first week. That’s not to say you wont make friends, you for sure will! But people are faster to leave friendships in university or not have as deep relationships, but you have to weave out who you can be friends with and who you can’t, am I right? Eventually you will stick by and those who are genuinely happy around you will come and it will all be okay.
5. Study, be social but don’t forget your health too
University usually means a time of independence which means you get opportunities to explore a lot of things! Parties, clubs, tons of assignments all due on the same day; lot of things can happen to you but do remember to try and balance your heath (both mental and physical), school life and social life! It’s never good to have too much or too little all the time and it will be hard to balance because no one is perfect. Never forget your self worth and to treat others with respect.
Sorry, i’ve been off tumblr for a bit due to personal reasons and getting a job : ) but hello! I’mm back and welcome if you’re reading my content for the first time!
