The fundraisers we are vetting will be added to this page as well as included in our google sheet.

seriously when the reaction to people making very realistic observations on how the structure of the global economy is unsustainable, especially for the first world, is “great way to make people support socialism by telling them their lives are gonna be worse under it”…
if you define quality of life and freedom in terms of access to cheap commodities and convenience at the cost of others, you might not be a socialist!!
socialism quite literally is not defined by “increased access to goods” (this is something capitalism technically does as well and what proponents of capitalism argue to defend it). it is defined by changes in the relations of productions, it is a shift in the social reality of daily life, through restructuring production and who is in control of production. reorganizing economic life according to peoples direct needs and not to existing superfluous capitalist markets that depend on an entire advertising apparatus to manufacture desire therefore will impact what is produced, and impact consumption. if your politics are primarily concerned with consumption and not around the locus of production and peoples working lives, you are not viewing this as a socialist, you just want social democracy. to say that the excesses of western life, propped up by hyper exploitation of the third world, are not sustainable and not preferable to the people whose labor produces them, is not even an argument on moral grounds, its a reality of the contradictions inherent to modern imperialism.
I was just talking to Ahmed @90-ghost (alongside Av, who might be reading this, idk if they’d like to be part of this post tho). He has given me permission to write a post about our conversation.
This whole thing has gotten Ahmed to the point where he admits he’s started to hate tumblr after 12 years of being on here. He has over 3k messages in his inbox and can’t handle it right now, his brother and other family members are still in Gaza and he himself doesn’t have the money to help them out. I’ve noticed that donations have slowed among palestinian fundraisers in general, before this whole debacle that a few individuals on this site started. this is anecdotal, but I know Ahmed gets like $30-$50 per week in donations at this point, and that barely makes a dent in his and his family’s needs. Remember that people in Gaza need to pay massively inflated prices for what basic necessities are available right now. I think things are looking pretty dire to the people who would like to flee Gaza but don’t have the money. It already was dire that Egyptian government, working in lockstep with Israel and the west, charges $5k+ to Ghazzawis. Hala Agency, Ibrahim Al-Argani, and the other scumbags running the Egyptian state are all demons and they’ve lined their pockets throughout this genocide. But I digress—it was dire already and now the enthusiastic aid that helped people like Ahmed seems to have run dry.
All that is to say: Ahmed can’t continue to verify peoples’ documents or promote their fundraisers at this stage. He’s privately talked to hundreds of Ghazzawis and looked at their IDs, and he was the only person doing it for a while (a very small handful of other Palestinian users on here were doing it, but they’ve also gotten overwhelmed and stopped). When he was in Gaza, Ahmed was displaced multiple times, left sleeping in tents or on the streets while in active physical danger, starving, forced to drink unsafe water, and often sick. It’s not an exaggeration to say that his body and mind have been pushed to the limit. When he told me he’s depressed all day after doing this work while attracting a ton of negativity, I told him he’s allowed to stop for the sake of his own health, because frankly he needs to focus on his physical recovery. There’s nothing selfish about that, it’s not sustainable for him to be doing this, particularly not when he’s still under the immense stress of his brother and other relatives remaining in Gaza and relying on him for help.
Since I know people will ask: I currently don’t know of anyone on tumblr who still vets fundraisers. Everyone I know of who did has had to stop. I don’t know about the inner workings of Operation Olive Branch, but they seem to be one of a few collectives with enough members to distribute this work. It IS work, and those of us who have tried to do it have done so with a low failure rate (el-shab-hussein and nabulsi’s spreadsheet had over 200 entries and they misidentified a scam as legitimate ONCE). I hope everyone will be more considerate towards the people at collectives like OOB.
This has always been a matter of personal discretion. The vetting process some users tried to implement on here is meant to help people who want to help and accept the risk of offering aid to strangers. If you don’t trust bloggers who’ve been proudly Palestinian on this site for years, that’s up to you—genuinely, it’s fair to think “I don’t know this person and I don’t know what standards they’re operating on.” In the future, anyone who has such concerns should consider asking good-faith questions to the people involved and to converse with them like adults before jumping to accusations, conspiratorial posts, etc.

The economic indicators speak of nothing less than an economic catastrophe. Over 46,000 businesses have gone bankrupt, tourism has stopped, Israel’s credit rating was lowered, Israeli bonds are sold at the prices of almost “junk bonds” levels, and the foreign investments that have already dropped by 60% in the first quarter of 2023 (as a result of the policies of Israel’s far-right government before October 7) show no prospects of recovery. The majority of the money invested in Israeli investment funds was diverted to investments abroad because Israelis do not want their own pension funds and insurance funds or their own savings to be tied to the fate of the State of Israel. This has caused a surprising stability in the Israeli stock market because funds invested in foreign stocks and bonds generated profit in foreign currency, which was multiplied by the rise in the exchange rate between foreign currencies and the Israeli Shekel. But then Intel scuttled a $25 billion investment plan in Israel, the biggest BDS victory ever. These are all financial indicators. But the crisis strikes deeper at the means of production of the Israeli economy. Israel’s power grid, which has largely switched to natural gas, still depends on coal to supply demand. The biggest supplier of coal to Israel is Colombia, which announced that it would suspend coal shipments to Israel as long as the genocide was ongoing. After Colombia, the next two biggest suppliers are South Africa and Russia. Without reliable and continuous electricity, Israel will no longer be able to pretend to be a developed economy. Server farms do not work without 24-hour power, and no one knows how many blackouts the Israeli high-tech sector could potentially survive. International tech companies have already started closing their branches in Israel. Israel’s reputation as a “startup nation” depends on its tech sector, which in turn depends on highly educated employees. Israeli academics report that joint research with universities abroad has declined sharply thanks to the efforts of student encampments. Israeli newspapers are full of articles about the exodus of educated Israelis. Prof. Dan Ben David, a famous economist, argued that the Israeli economy is held together by 300,000 people (the senior staff in universities, tech companies, and hospitals). Once a significant portion of these people leaves, he says, “We won’t become a third world country, we just won’t be anymore.”

it really hurts me to see so many gazans asking us for help, though that's through no fault of their own. they've been forced to use a social media site that they're probably not familiar with (because tumblr has kind of faded out of popular consciousness), to interact with us in a second language, to distinguish themselves from the scammers who are taking advantage of genocide, and to ask strangers for help. i don't think there are any cultures where it's easy to ask for help like this, but i'm intimately familiar with how humiliating it can be in arab culture. please be kind, gracious and helpful to the gazans in your inbox. this is a desperate time for them, and in addition to the physical danger inflicted by "israel", the prices of basic resources in gaza are extremely high due to scarcity, and those that manage to escape to egypt are financially exploited by landlords there and have an extremely difficult time finding work due to their unofficial status as refugees. these families will continue to need our help and i hope we can all continue to provide it to the best of our ability.

gilbert baker designed his flag with the express purpose of it including every single queer person. baker was so dedicated to making sure his flag was inclusive that he added another stripe in 2017, lavender, to represent diversity. the concept that it’s for white gay men came around later and needs to be changed.
can we please go back to associating the original flag, and ideally the modern rainbow flag, with inherent inclusion of every single queer person? instead of deciding that the original wasn’t good enough? personalized flags are important for representing those who have typically been excluded from the queer community, but reclaiming the original flag as a symbol of inclusion is important too.
every time a new SA allegation of a favored celeb arises, i'm reminded of the absolutely soul-crushing experience of the depp/heard trial in which i learned that dozens of ppl i loved + respected + trusted were also willing to engage in the basest form of misogyny if the woman Seemed Crazy Enough. there was a horrifying 2ish weeks on this website + much longer irl where i genuinely felt unsafe voicing my discomfort as i relived something eerily reminiscent of the aftermath of my own assaults playing out on screen, commented on by true crime youtubers like it was a red sox game.
it happens time + time again with every new allegation + it's truly the most agonizing + exhausting part of being a survivor. i am begging you all to consider that survivors are watching you engage with this stuff like theater + it erodes our trust in all of you + compounds our grief.
a few ppl have commented variations of "this was me :( i regret it but i just hadn't done the research + was relying on secondhand evidence" + while i don't want to put them in a spotlight or attract hate, that is... exactly the problem. it goes so much deeper than "i was duped by depp's marketing/legal team in this single scenario" because "this particular woman is crazy + making up abuse for attention because she's actually a [insert diagnosis here] who torments men for her own sick pleasure" should 100% of the time ring alarm bells for you! there's something deeply wrong with your feminist politic if you'll abandon it once the perpetrator starts trending on twitter!
content like "[description of her assault] sounds like a good time in bed to me" or "this has emboldened me to say that [people sharing her diagnosis] need to unfollow me" (two real things that both went viral!!!) should never be acceptable to you, regardless of who the target is. women who you do not respect or who you think are Bad People are still not acceptable targets for saneism or misogyny. even women who have done actual, provable harmful things are still not acceptable targets for saneism or misogyny.
perpetrators are almost universally more powerful + beloved than the ppl they have harmed; they exploit this power to their advantage. perpetrators often retain the charisma + poise + calm which sexual assault strips from you like wet fucking paper. "calm beloved man dealing with his crazy clingy jilted ex who is actually the abusive one, probably, i mean look at her!" is a tale as old as time, not a fluke, so if you don't develop an actually principled stance on sexual assault which you apply regardless of the likability or press coverage of the harmed person, you are not an ally to survivors.

People citing "adding an x gender marker" as like a pro-trans progressive win are just flaunting how little of the reading they've actually done on modern radical queer politics tbh. this is for people who are going to get flagged by TSA because their bits don’t match the pink or the blue buttons for the scanners, and so they’re going to get stopped. every time.
it’s for intersex people and people for whom being non-binary is really important, not a way for trans women to otherize their gender, and is a small policy win reflective of international standards to try and treat intersex people slightly better.
The use of gender markers on IDs and the use of those pink and blue buttons upholds the coercive system of gender assignment, the x is simply a more sophisticated extension of this. Trans women are targeted by this. Trans men are targeted by this. I have an M on my IDs and it's because changing it would only increase the harassment and discrimination i face at airport security,among other places. Many intersex people also face these problems but ultimately the solution is not to champion the continued advancement of gendered oppression, but to remove the fucking gender marker altogether
Okay, be for fucking real for a second. If we take Neil Gaiman's version of events at face value, he initiated a sexual relationship with his 6-year-old child's 21-year-old nanny within hours of meeting her, as a 61-year-old man who is also rich, famous, and influential.
He lived her lifetime two times over before she was even born. He was her employer. She was dependent on him and his wife for her housing. And he pursued a relationship with her despite all of those facts. And that's someone you think is a good person being unfairly accused of abusing his power?
If we go by Neil's account of the situation, the power dynamics are still so utterly skewed, and the situation is still so utterly creepy that I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that the relationship was "consensual." Powerful old men should not be sleeping with their young employees.
Quite frankly, any man who would engage in such a relationship and consider it consensual has too warped an understanding of consent to be trusted in his assessment of whether there was consent.
A man who isn't predatory and abusive would never have sought out this "relationship" to begin with. Much less coerced the girl in question into signing an NDA after the fact in exchange for paying her rent while she was struggling and even hospitalized with suicidal urges in the aftermath of their "relationship."
Neil's behaviour with Scarlett, even if we take his account as the truth, was utterly unacceptable. A 61-year-old man with enormous influence and resources should not be seeking reassurance and support about HIS mental health from a 21-year-old who was IN THE HOSPITAL ON SUICIDE WATCH.
Listening to his audio messages tells you everything you need to know: that he was manipulative, inappropriate, and careful. He guilts her into reassuring him repeatedly that she consented, that he did nothing wrong. He presents himself as suicidal because of the idea that she is "planning to 'MeToo' him." He makes her care for HIM and reassure HIM as if he is the vulnerable party. His messages to her show a man preoccupied with self-image. They show a man with awful boundaries. They show a predator who is very invested in his (self-)image as a "good guy."
Be for fucking real. What's more likely: that a famous and powerful man abused his power and crossed boundaries with young, vulnerable women, who he ADMITS TO ENGAGING IN SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH, or that these two women on separate continents with 20 years separating their experiences are engaged in a conspiracy to smear the name of a man with whom they had loving, consensual relationships? What's more likely? That a powerful man crafted a wholesome public persona while behaving reprehensibly behind closed doors, or that journalists conspired against him to destroy his image because he happens to support trans rights? BE FOR FUCKING REAL.
