Canadian’s are born with a simmering pot of disdain towards the US. Our tv and radio is overpowered by their entertainment, our news stations are filled with their news, they know almost nothing about us but expect everyone in the world to know what they’re taking about when it comes to the US. We know their president, their senators and governors, and yet so many still call our prime minister a president. So many think toronto is our capital. They think all we offer to the world is maple syrup. They expect our stores around the border to take their currency, and are offended if we aren’t willing to take their precious golden US dollars. We grow up hearing about how the US is the ‘greatest country ever’ when we are literally next door, hearing about mass shooting after mass shooting. We never believed it, but we’d get berated if we dared to press back against the ‘great american country’. So, yeah, trump calling us the 51st state, calling our previous prime minister ‘governor’, and repeatedly claiming that canada cannot function as a country, is going to cause all of the canadian’s simmering pots of disdain to boil over and now we are all actively avoiding and boycotting the US as much as we reasonably can. No one in government had to tell us to boycott, we just started doing it, and the government followed suit by removing things like US liquor. We have always been there to support the US, whether it’s in stupid fucking wars they start across the world, or helping by sending waterbombers FOR FREE to help with the California fires. Let’s not forget all of our assistance during 9/11.
