The Problem with Choni

There is nothing wrong with two girls being in a relationship, on or off screen. It is a problem when they are almost never regularly featured in the episodes of Riverdale - their scenes are repeatedly released as “deleted scenes” on YouTube. Now I realize this is part of a larger problem with the show balancing its supporting (token poc/queer) characters, but it’s a frustrating trend, especially with a relationship that is receiving so much love from fans. Sorry CW, but if you’re going to tout Choni as part of your “diversity,” the relationship should actually air as part of the show.

Tbh I’m dreading the treatment of Moose’s bisexuality - Kevin has already acquired a lot of gay stereotypes (gay best friend, reduced screentime unless he is a plot device, being attracted to every guy on the show...well okay that’s understandable). Don’t get me wrong, Kevin has had good storylines - the jogging in the woods brought up some interesting conversations with him and Betty, but overall it’s been disappointing. Hopefully they will address Moose’s sexuality with an educated and intelligent story.

Or maybe there will just be more shirtless shower scenes with Archie. That would be okay as well.

I’m sorry, I don’t usually rant, but I just feel very strongly about this. (Also, this is not an attack on you Lauren, I’m just using your post as a visual representation for my rant. It’s a very nice post.)

Tbh this part of the movie made me uncomfortable. Why can’t he be that gay? Why can’t he sing and dance, and listen to Whitney Houston? Look, I love "Love, Simon” - it’s the only one I’ve seen twice in theaters, aside from Jurassic World (because it was good and that was when I first developed a crush on Nick Robinson, fight me) - but one of the problems with that movie was that sometimes it felt like it was trying to make Simon more appealing to straight audiences - like yes, he’s gay, but he’s also white, cisgender, male, masculine, upper middle-class, clean-cut, attractive, and passes for straight. He’s not “threatening” to straight audiences by being overly effeminate, dressing differently (see Ethan, tbh my favorite character in the movie) or into singing and dancing (he’s even not that good at dancing! I mean if he was actually good then he might seem too gay right? RIGHT?!). I understand the social importance of this movie, and again I really do love it, but there are parts of it that feel like the producers are trying to make him "acceptable” for straight audiences, and that’s just frustrating.

My reaction when Doctor Who fans say that the show’s “too PC” attitude (aka a female doctor, a gay poc companion, acceptance of gender fluid Time Lords, characters discussing inequalities dealing with gender, race and sexuality) is making the show drop in quality

as seen through gifs of characters who are either queer/poc/women just to drive home the point that this show isn’t just about straight white males

For what it’s worth, Chris Chibnall was the showrunner of Torchwood, the gayest show in the Doctor Who TV universe. Seriously, every main character was queer. AND. IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Y’all, I saw this movie last night and it was amazing. As a queer guy, it was exciting and very empowering to see a representation of a queer guy as a main character in a mainstream teen movie!!!!! The movie is problematic in several ways, mostly as a result of watering down the source material to make it more palatable for mainstream audiences - the book, “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda,” is definitely much better - but as a movie, it’s still pretty great. And I felt so good *cough* coming out *cough* of the movie last night, I felt happy and proud to be queer. Please go see it when it opens on March 16th so that we can show the entertainment industry that people want to see more stories about queer people!!! Love you all :)

Racist Scream fans

So I was talking with some Scream fans the other day about the new cast...which consists of mostly poc, and 1 of them is a gay character. (Seasons 1 and 2 were all white except for 1 black character in season 2)

And they start complaining about how MTV is trying to make it diverse...

Saying shit like “Why do they have to make it diverse?”

And “So it’s okay to have a cast full of black people, but if white people do it they’re racist?”

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I’m sorry, I just had to share that frustration with y’all.

Any suggestions on how to respond to that in a way that will get through to them? Or should I just not respond at all?

I need advice from all of you!

So I’m an 17-year-old cis bisexual guy, and there are older adults (age 45-75) in my life who either know I’m bi and don’t really accept me (because they don’t understand the concept), or I haven’t come out to them and I want to get them used to the idea of queer relationships.

I would like to find a tv show that has two guys in a relationship (preferably if one of them is bi, so that part of myself is in there) that I can watch with these adults, and hopefully make them more comfortable with guy/guy relationships.

They don’t have to be the main focus of the show, just as long as they’re major supporting characters...
