Intro post ig because I just realised I DON’T HAVE ONE YET.

Anyways. Hi, I’m Mavis (they/them)! I’m an avid IWATEX fan, which I play on a Nintendo switch (so I can’t edit any gamefiles or do any of that computer stuff). I’ve 100% the gallery, so I’m not bothered by seeing spoilers at all. Even so, if I talk about anything that someone is unlikely to experience in their first few playthroughs of the game, I’ll do my best to keep it under a cut off. I believe that is the general consensus for spoilers in the fandom, but if something else would be better, please let me know!

I like making fanart and occasionally fanfic for things I’m interested in (like IWATEX) so, do expect that from my blog occasionally (It will be tagged with #my art). I also am in the process of developing some of my Exo-OCs such as Loquacious (Lo), Apricity (Pris), Acquiescence (Essie), as well as Bellicose (Belle) who I adopted from Sapphire in the exoprompts disc server :3.

My main blog is @papermunchermmm, but I mostly just reblog stuff on there so it’s not super important.

Week 3 - Wormhole

I always want to do an exocolonist character tierlist but then I get to the website and I just. Stare. I have very specific thoughts on each of these characters and you’re telling me that not only must I organise them in a way that makes sense, but also relative to eachother?? No. Just no. I can’t.

Teenage exocolonist spoilers below!

Was anyone else srsly grossed out when dys and sym are revealed to be dating? Dys is a lonely traumatized kid who meets sym before he even hits puberty and immediately develops a codependent obsession. You get the sense that he'd rather die than so much as disagree w sym. His relationship w him further isolates him from the colony-he doesn't need to connect w other humans because he's got an alien he worships, and this connection is used to convince dys to commit some domestic terrorism to win a place as the Gardeners equal, to leave humans behind. Then, no matter what you do, sym and dys will always date. Like, if befriending a child and isolating them only to date them later isn't grooming I don't know what is.

Sols relationship w sym feels far balanced in comparison. They don't meet sym till they're dating age, they don't solely rely on sym, can see all the timelines like he can, betrays sym in some timelines (proof of a non codependent relationship imo). At best dys feels like a little pet that sym and sol have picked up along the way and I hate that you can't stop it, which feels so weird for a game that goes out of its way to be so progressive

So yeah that grosses me out. Idc that sym is technically older-like edward being 17 forever means he's 17,its fiction who cares - but the fact dys knows sym and is obsessed w him when hes 11-12 (and can never seem to say no to sym) and sym seems perpetually like a young adult is more like resnesmee/jacob than edward/bella. Big ick.

OKAY I SWEAR I WAS GONNA RESPOND TO THIS WAAAAYYYYYY EARLIER I JUST GOT DISTRACTED MB

1) He’s a hairstylist! I probably should’ve kept in mind the game’s links between colours / characters. I might lean more into that when I work on my other exo ocs.

2) as a kid he was quite nervous, so he saw himself in the hopeyes and started being their number 1 glazer

4) After her awkward bumbling teenage phase, he got really into self expression as an art form!!

5) YES (She’s got an enhanced lung augment, and could probably blabber on for ages and ages!)

6) Likes yellow Flowers and Cake! Not sure what he’d dislike. Maybe mushwood?

8) Haven’t decided yet! They’d have to be mostly OC because Loquacious is around Nougat’s age for the canon timeline - probably would appear in babysitting / tutoring events with Sol if he were in canon. Otherwise, iirc Anemone has a mob of younger siblings to befriend.

YES YES YES THANKYOU FOR BITING!!

In my head, Loquacious is around Nougat’s age for the canon timeline (and would probably appear in babysitting or tutoring events), so he’d be growing up on vertumna with all plants and xenos being what he knows and he’d be learning about the hopeyes in class and there’d be some moment where it clicks and she goes ‘oh my god, they’re just like me’. And from then on, NUMBER 1 HOPEYE GLAZER!! Any insult against a hopeye is suddenly PERSONAL. And if you’re mean to the xenofauna then she’ll CRY. Someone decides to tell him that hopeyes were also attacking them during glow? INSTANT TEARS. And then he’d either cry so hard he forgets and the same thing happens the next time, or she’ll think about what it would take for HER to attack others and she’s immediately number 1 hopeye glazer again!!

What made loquacious decide to be a hairstylist and not something like a surveyor or an animal handler? A job that would let him be closer to the hopeyes)

Ooo this is a really good question actually!! I think wanting to be a hopeye is something that he’d grow out of as he gets older (shocking, I know). The main reason I think she’d want that in the first place is because as a kid he’s really shy. There’d be a little bit of self projection onto a hop eye, with how they’re nervous little creatures (like him!) but also quite ‘social’ or moreso care about the other hopeyes, what with them stomping their feet to warn other hopeyes about danger.

He’d never lose his love for the little critters, but ultimately transcending the human species into becoming a hopeye isn’t a realistic adult job, and in her teens years she’d want to distance himself from how ‘awkward’ and ‘wierd’* she was as a kid to the point that maybe he’d suppress the whole hopeye thing? So she probably wouldn’t get into surveying in the beginning because of that, (also the lingering anxiety that is still very much there, just masked!), and by the time he’s grown into himself and feeling confident and everything he’s already found his niche as a hairdresser. Its the perfect blend of social skills and practical work to keep her entertained! I think it would also help change ‘self expression’ from something daunting and caging into something fun and freeing.

Maybe when there’s Peace On Vertumna, she’ll get a little hopeye assistant to work with her :3
