Thanx Jupiter, much appreciated!

Kitahara Hakushū, from “Rain on Castle Island,” featured in “The Penguin Book of Japanese Verse,”
We live in an illusion that external things make us happy. We wait for that new item, achieving a new goal, attracting a perfect partner before we allow ourselves to experience happiness. But then you accomplish this thing and guess what? You feel happy for a minute, maybe for two, and you go back to your previous state – wanting and needing.
Happiness is a conscious choice. You can choose to be happy no matter what. You can make happiness your new habit, your everyday mindset. And by doing it, you’ll eventually notice a big change in your life. Why? Because your internal world creates your external world.
Isn’t it amazing that God can do anything He wants? In a flick of His wrist, He could transform us into entirely new beings. Yet, for some reason, He chooses to spend time with us. He allows us to make mistakes. He holds our broken hearts and our angry rants as gently as he would hold a butterfly. Because the thing He enjoys doing most is spending time with us.
He would rather be betrayed than take away our free will. He would rather have his son nailed to a cross than give us a fate we deserve. He would rather than take away our capacity to hurt.
And, yet, we still question how “good” His love is for us. The same people who drove those stakes, that chanted those names, that ran away from home so many times… wonder if we’re truly being loved “well” enough.
He loves us more than all of the grains in the sand in the entire world. He made us fearfully and wonderfully. And each time we screw up and fall down and run away, he is always there with open arms when we return home.
God loves us. More than anyone. More than we could love anything. And He loves us so much that He’s willing to let us slog through a transformation (and never quite get there) rather than taking away all of those things that make us “us” in order to change us entirely.
Bottom line: God is good. God is with you. God is in love with you.

If you’re upset that the release of a project didn’t turn out the way you hoped it would…
That is didn’t attract enough attention, didn’t make enough money, didn’t gain enough followers, didn’t catch the eye of the best agent or university or so forth:
It’s okay.
It’s okay to be upset. To be sad. To be depressed. To have regrets. To feel bitter, angry, or betrayed. To want to give up. To have human emotions.
It’s okay…
even if it’s your fault.
even if it was just a stroke of bad luck.
even if you have no idea why the project failed.
even if you’ll have other chances in the future.
even if you put in everything you could and don’t know how to try any harder next time.
even if there are other creators having worse luck than you.
even if the rest of the world seems to think you should be happy with the success you did get.
Blogs, books, comics, videos, portfolios, designs, performances, the start of careers, projects of all kinds: these are hard, demanding things to accomplish, many of which take ages to complete. It’s natural to feel like you put more into them than you gained in return, especially if you were given high expectations for success. You shouldn’t feel bad for having those emotions. You’re human.
You’re human and that’s okay.
I’d like to say that in the end you need to pick yourself back up and move forward — and yes, yes there will come a time for that — but I’m not at that place yet. It’s okay if you’re not either. It’s okay if it takes a while to get there.
You’re going to be okay. You’re going to do great things in the future.
It’s okay that you’re not there yet.
We’ll get there together.
