Human Recognition
We’ve found an app that can recognize any humans using the Android camera. We’re hoping to accomplish our first major milestone this week by having the drone follow a human by looking at him while hovering.
Breakthrough!
We managed to fix our problems involving the quadcopter’s video feed. We’re now looking towards unraveling the secrets of OpenCV as we try to implement some sort of detection program. We’ve found a source of app examples, but we’re currently in the process of reverse engineering these examples.
Progress is Slowing...
Unfortunately, the last week and a half has been riddled with problems. Brant and Cuong are working on integrating live video feed into the app, and I’m working on figuring out OpenCV for Android. Both parts are running into problems simultaneously due to our unfamiliarity in either subject. Nevertheless, we are pushing through and trying to come up with a solution as quickly as possible.
We have successfully implemented some basic movement controls for the ParaCam. The drone can now move up and down, turn left and right, and move forward and back. In a few days, we hope to perfect these movement controls and work on recording video and taking photos via the built-in camera.
Last week, we were able to get the Parrot Drone off the ground via our own Android app! While this may not seem like a huge accomplishment, this is the first step to creating our fully autonomous ParaCam app. No huge project was ever completed without the first baby step.
