The WIP Fonts Folder took nine months to build – how did the idea evolve into what it is now?

The origins of the idea go back 3-4 years. Originally, it was meant to be an interactive game-like environment, almost like Habbo, where people could create an avatar, walk around a virtual TDF office, find fonts, chat and complete tasks to unlock things. We played with the idea on and off over the years, but ultimately it felt like a bit too much theatrics.
The Desktop we’ve released now is a heavily zoomed-in version of that and was built over a fairly part-time nine-month period. It took so long because Liiift was busy cooking up new tech for us and some of the other foundries they work with, and we had a summer to enjoy.
