Why Chara is so Important in Paratale
This is inspired by the video "Who is the True Villain of Undertale?" by @/fleurmarigold.
We all know who Chara is by now, right? They are the first fallen human and the childhood best friend/sibling of Asriel. They died to pursue a mission to save the underground, which they ultimately failed. And they appear at the end of the Genocide Route. Keep this in mind, because this will be important as I continue.
Chara, in Paratale, is the key to the True Endings of the game. The missing piece of the story that ties everything together.
For the True Pacifist: Chara is the only one who can save Asriel in his boss fight. To Save him, you need to know him. Truly know him and everything he's gone through. PLAYER_ can't know because they never got to experience what that was. Toriel and Asgore may have raised them, but they don't remember Flowey as their son, nor did they know about their plan until after the fact. Only Chara has those memories, and they understand everything he has gone through.
For the True Genocide: PLAYER_ can achieve a genocide and nothing truly stops them. They can kill everyone, and nothing happens after. They can't even leave the Underground. Even if it sounds discouraging, PLAYER_ would try it over and over if they think they'll get something different. And that's why Chara is needed. Chara, by the end of the True Genocide, would be able to give the PLAYER_ consequences to their actions. That punishment? Destroying the Timeline and ensuring (that instance of) PLAYER_ can never access that world again.
Without Chara, it is how Paratale is now. There is no happy ending. There is no consequence. PLAYER_s on the loose with free reign over the timelines to push it to it's limits. This is why Chara is so important to Paratale.
"Our Place"
A hypothetical + whatever's going on outside of the game
[Edit: Last image was supposed to be a reference to Shayy, but seeing as I have power over fiction, that is now no longer a reference to Shayy, and they're my OC now that has never done anything that they have. Looks more like me than them anyways.]

Paratale lore update:
Once G was shattered across time and space from an overload of DT after jumping in the Core, that DT caused the pieces of G to briefly gain a modicum of control over every part of Paratale he was in, causing the timeline to split from the initial hundred or so caused by Flowey's resets, to thousands.
Initially, G had a theory for what caused these timeline splits, and assigned them "Functional Universe Number" values for every universe, and detailed how they were different. His first theory for which he assigned these is outdated, but the current theory, that is correct, is:
When someone with DT interacts with a timeline, the timeline splits to another for every reset performed, or every timeline interacted with. G's overload of DT caused several new timelines to be made that are nearly identical because they all split off of one timeline, FUN value 66. But every other timeline was corrupted by his sudden absence, and some things went wrong as it tried to course-correct, creating copies of people he knew while trying to search for him. Sometimes he found parts of him could speak through these people, sometimes they couldn't. They all seemed to be aware of him despite his state, though.
But then, as PLAYER_ entered the world, there seemed to be a PLAYER_ for every one of these timelines, practically doubling the amount of them. But that would only be the case if every PLAYER_ was technically a different entity, like his scattered parts... And then, the FUN count started to get out of hand. The number of universes went from thousands, to hundreds of thousands, to millions- G could no longer keep track of them, as the scattered parts of himself couldn't even approach the number of PLAYER_s wreaking havoc.
At this point, G recognized the lack of power he had had diminished to even less, and decided to focus his attention elsewhere, as much as he could, of course. His scattered parts created a hivemind of sorts that was hard to keep track of. This caused G to run into the code of the "game" he was in, and by extension, some part of the wider multiverse...
OOC Explaination:
There is a PLAYER_ for every actual playthrough of Undertale irl even if the details in Paratale don't line up exactly with canon, Paratale is legitimately a self-contained multiverse of itself in this way. If it inspires you to make your own PLAYER_ sona/oc, go ahead lol.
The different fun events are caused by the PLAYER_ starting from different various Flowey Reset timelines, where different things he did caused differences between playthroughs. And Fun values are actually the names of each timeline.
