Pattern and Color
Pattern and color are important considerations when choosing a frame. Frames can be used to emphasize existing pattern, make colors pop, and add texture and interest to simpler pieces.
For the painting pictured above, our client wanted to use framing as a way to play with color and movement. To do this, we worked with her to select a canvas float frame made of tiger maple, stained light orange. The stain brings one of the least dominant colors forward, and the figure of the wood extends the action of the paint drips - the frame has become part of the piece. It was an inspired use of color and pattern - perfect for a painting filled with vibrant movement.
Contemporary and Rustic
Everybody has a best friend. Our client brought in 2 sets of photo booth pictures of her best friend and herself from some years ago. She framed one set for her best friend and one set for herself in the exact same frame. We floated the photos in an “aged steel” finish frame. The look of industrial, oxidized metal complements both contemporary and rustic styles of decor. We used the Museum glass to maximize the clarity and to protect the pictures from the light damage. What a nice way to surprise your best friend.
Circular Windows
When we think of window mats, we typically think of square or rectangular openings. However, window openings can also be circular or oval. While they are not as common as rectangles or squares, they can be very elegant when used appropriately.
The ketubah above was designed as a circle, so using a circular window opening was really a no-brainer. Our client wanted an accent color to separate the paper base from the mat, so we used a 12 ply mat and painted the bevel to match the maroon in the center of the flowers. To finish it off, we chose frame in a simple shape, leafed in 22k gold with a red rub underneath that tied everything together.
This was a simple and elegant design and was a beautiful way to frame a piece that our clients will cherish forever.
White on White
White frames paired with white mats are a popular choice for color photographs. They are simple and clean and often make colors appear brighter and more saturated.

Floater Frame Design
#FloaterFrameDesign: #FloaterFrames have gained #popularity for their #uniquelook in #framedesign. Designed for artwork that is #printed or #paintedoncanvas, #floater frames give art the illusion of #floating inside the #pictureframe without touching it, which creates an interesting #visualdetail and a sense of three-dimensional #depth in the overall #display.
A floater frame can be made out of #metal or #wood, the same as standard #pictureframes. They can be made to #anysize and with different frame widths, although many floater frames are #narrow for the #bestdisplay of the #artwork. Different #finishes are available, including #metallicfinishes as well as #mattecolors. Because these frames are designed to work with photos #printed on #canvas or other canvas-based #artwork, they need to be matched with the #stretchedcanvas #frame, which is then attached to the back of the floater frame to #createtheillusion that the canvas is #floating inside – but not touching – the main picture frame.
#Framing a piece of art is almost as important to the display as the #image itself. While the actual picture is what you want to display, without a good frame, the #art will not be shown to its #best advantage. Picture frames create #visualspace around a #pieceofart, separating it from its surroundings and #drawingattention to the artwork itself.

Space
Float frames are hands down the most popular framing option for paintings on canvas and board. They’re simple, can be done in any finish, and make a statement without overwhelming.
When we float a canvas, we generally sink it 1/8″ and leave about 1/4″ - 1/2″ of space between the frame and the canvas to expose some of the backer board and give the piece more depth.
For this Braque-inspired painting, our client wanted to expose even more of the backer to make the piece a little bigger and give it added dimension. The flat black of the backer contrasts nicely with the grey edges of the canvas and really makes the colors pop!

Object Framing - Ballet Pointe Shoes
We framed an #autographed pair of #pointeshoes by the #incomparable #balletdancer: Wendy Whelan of New York City Ballet. The #pointe shoes she actually wore on #stage, #signed and gave them to an #adoringfan after the #performance. We framed them next to a signed letter also from New York City Ballet pertaining to the event. Challenges
At Paris Frameworks, we love a challenge, and the painting pictured above by artist Tracy Winston presented us with several!
The painting is made up of two canvas panels approximately 6′ x 7′ each, that meet in the center to form one large composition. Each panel was painstakingly stretched so the composition lined up in the center, then the entire piece was framed in a simple Light Walnut canvas float frame.
Due to its size, the frame for this piece was made in two sections, then joined with an almost imperceptible join in the client’s home.
The frame is simple, yet striking, and was the perfect choice for such a large, bold canvas. Our client was thrilled with how we met the challenges presented by such a large piece, and we were pleased to have been part of creating a real showstopper for their beautiful home.
