its ya girl, soda, again with a muse she probably shouldn't have taken but she has already committed. i kinda want to play a boy-failure, a bit of a loser. his important links are here and his tldr is under the cut.
yujin is... definitely a burn out. he was never good at school. he was always a bit of a clown and he was too gullible for his own good.
he has a lot of self-image issues because of it. he compares himself to others and knows he cannot compete. its hard for him to not to think that he peaked as a middle schooler. he was popular then since he could make jokes and get all the attention. that behavior soon got tired and it only got more tired the older he got.
now hes an adult with the immature personality/humor of a 13-year-old boy, holding onto the inner.
he was never too close with jaeyoung. he often felt that he was overshadowed. while he's close with his twin sister (the most important person to him), he has kinda always been the "other" park. he was never really talented in anything, never really was popular.
when jaeyoung went missing, yujin tunneled online, trying to find something to make sense of what happened to his brother. he ended up on occult/witchy forums. he learned about crystals, tarot, astrology, anything that helped him make sense of the unimaginable. he constructed a world where he can live in denial of the reality of his brother's disappearance.
to him, the internet is a safe space, though it has completely rotted his brain. he barely passed high school, he isnt even close to passing his 1 community college course. he shows up to work enough not to get fired, but even then he's on a fine line but he insists that jaeyoung is alive and that he, yujin, is fine. he is coping well, according to him. but all signs point to him needing some kind of help.
he's trying to stream? he's not good at videogames, but he wants to just fully become one with internet culture and spaces. streaming, to him, is the way to fully breach into online as a life instead of what he's currently living.
"I don't think you need to worry about me scaring you to death, when me punching you to death because you're being annoying seems far more likely," Daphne grumbled, though a certain kind of affection riddled her tone. She was joking. This was her most familiar joke, reserved for a person who would understand it to be harmless. She stepped back a little, further into her house, then reached forward to grab Yujin by the shoulder and pull him her way. This was an invitation.
"I'm surprised your sister let you out the house," Daphne remarked, turned to trail down her little entryway and trusted that Yujin would follow (and maybe even close the door, if he was feeling particularly polite). "Y'know, with how scary stuff around here has been lately--" She sounded entirely unaffected by it, presenting it as more of a parody of itself than the true circumstances they were faced with. Yujin didn't worry about this stuff, and Daphne was great at pretending she wasn't taken by it either. "It feels like there could be a ghost around every corner we turn these days.."
“Impossible because I’d just simply dodge out of the way,” Yujin argued back. With one or two swift movements, his lumbering body demonstrated how he would – as he said – simply dodge out of the way. Though, it was clear that he would never be fast enough to dodge out of the way of a five-year-old punching him let alone a grown person.
A smile slowly elongated on his lips and pressed into a sinister grin. Soon a chuckle followed. “I know how to escape through my window, Daphne. How do you think I got to go to all those parties in high school?” he giggled.
Yujin followed Daphne in like a puppy, which was normal for him. As soon as Jaeyoung introduced Yujin to Daphne when she started dating his brother, Yujin thought she was far too cool for Jaeyoung and easily placed her in his roster of those he wanted to hang out with. “We can break out the ouija board if you think we got some paranormalative activities afoot?”
It was a dare, and a stupid one at that. But Yujin like to think that he never thought of stupid ideas or that he could ever be stupid at all. His ideas led him to having a mildly successful streamer following of about two hundred people a day and he made a decent hundred bucks a month from the gig. All greatness starts small. Yujin, through being egged on by his three active chatters, agreed to take a trip to the local strip club and see how far he can get way with being a total chad. What could be more poggers than trolling a stripper in real time? Yujin booked a private room, put his hands on either side of his thighs and he sat, waiting for his dancer to arrive.
arden’s head shook at his explanation, slowly lowering the piercing gun she’d been gripping in her hand. “all that training and still you haven’t learned that jump scaring someone with a potential weapon could be dangerous?” she questioned softly. “what if i actually hurt you?” a quiet laugh slipped past her lips, the sound lighter than she felt.
honestly, she needed the distraction and it was easier to tease him than let her thoughts spiral. jae-young was still out there somewhere — he had to be. they hadn’t found him, and she was taking no news as good news at this point. she clung to that logic harder than she probably should have … but she refused to let her mind put him in the same grave as the others. not when there was still space for hope.
she finally set the gun down on the tray beside her. “so,” she added, tilting her head at him. “did you have an appointment today, or are we winging it?”
“Because I literally knew you weren’t going to hurt me. Otherwise, I definitely would have been able to grab that gun from your hand before you even got the chance to make your strike,” Yujin scoffed at the idea that he could be hurt. He was twenty-three. Therefore he was absolutely and undoubtedly invincible. All of his escapades had proven this theory correct. Even with all of the training he did was the terrible mascot horror games he played on stream, Yujin didn’t need to be worried. So, why get ready for someone coming to jump him? He was safe. Nothing to worry about.
Ever.
“Change my name to Carrie Underwood because I’m having Jesus take the wheel,” Yujin threw his hands up into the air. Why worry when everything was going to be okay? “By that I mean I don’t have an appointment and I kinda want to give like a really cool piercing that people are going to think I’m like… awesome for having it. So, like, where would the best place to get that pricked?”
Daphne hadn't imagined a knock at the door would make her jump, had always thought herself more level-headed, more steadfast. Sure, three dead bodies had turned up and the world had turned upside down, but Daphne hadn't realised she had been put on edge by any of that until she felt this chill rush up her spine.
And then her phone rang. And it was suddenly awfully clear who was at the door, anyway.
When she opened it, she was leaning in the doorway with a certain kind of defeat to the way her shoulders slouched.
"Jin, Jesus Christ, can't you give me a second to get to the door? I'm throwing my phone at you next time you call me when you're literally right outside, anyway," she complained, though her tone held no venom to it. If anything, this was her way of welcoming a friend into her house, some warmth seeping into her voice, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Yujin didn't even turn around when he heard Daphne open the door. Instead, he shrugged. He looked down at his phone. And he redialed Daphne's number. A little bit of humor could liven up this town. Everyone was so worried. And then there was Yujin: who had nothing to worry about at all.
He knew he was pushing buttons, but he knew who he was pushing buttons with. As the phone was ringing, Yujin turned to spot Daphne behind him -- which he knew about, obviously. But he still put his hand on his chest and let out a rehearsed gasped.
"When did you get there, Daph?" he shouted. "You're going to scare me to death one of these days, lady."
Yujin tossed his bike off into a spotty patch of grass. His limbs, cumbersome, moved up towards Daphne’s door. He was finally let free from his home and no longer felt the eyes of his sister tell him what to do, what he needed, and who to meet up with. All he wanted was to have a fun night with one of his closest friends and not think about what was going on in the town. Not that he thought about it anyways. Because he didn’t think about it. In fact, he didn’t even have to think about it. Because Jaeyoung was okay. There was nothing to think about as long as Jaeyoung was okay. And it didn’t matter if he had no evidence to prove it. Yujin knew this in his soul: Jaeyoung was okay.
In quick, fast, but clumsy movements, Yujin rapped his fist against the door and patiently waited for Daphne to open it. Well, what he felt was patient. It was only another second to two when he knocked on it again. And only another second before he reached into his front pant pocket and began to call Daphne.
of course yujin isn't one to take things seriously, even growing up he always found a way to make a joke out of everything. she glared at the playful nudge from her twin brother causing her to huff at him, "tch, don't piss me off." she added as she shook her head at him and rolled her eyes at such a ridiculous accusation of daphne being the one behind all of this. this was her twin brother and she couldn't find the words to even express how she was feeling. it seemed as though he didn't care about what was going on in ashford right now and just made everything out into a joke.
"be serious, yujin" she lightly slapped the back of his head before she moved to sit on his bed. watching her twin throw fake punches at an invisible daphne just caused her to make a 'are you really my twin' kind of face, "you two are hanging out? please be safe and careful out there, just be home at a decent time okay?" she stood up then let out an annoyed sigh, "please, you'd trip over your town to feet before you could even try to throw out a punch to whomever you'd be fighting off. don't joke, please? i can't lose you too."
Yujin grabbed his shoulder after Yuna nudged him. His face contorted as if he was in pain. A little wail crawl out from between his lips in a pathetic little whimper. "AH!" Yujin huffed. He looked to his twin sister with a pout. His eyes curled soft, wide, like a puppy. "Don't be mean to me! I'm going to be fine. Like I said, you know who Daphne is and you know she is a very, very, very, trustworthy individual. An upright citizen. Scholar, even."
The pout grew larger when Yujin was scolded. Why take any of this serious? What was the point? Especially since all signs -- at least the ones he consulted his tarot cards and tea readings on -- pointed to Jaeyoung being alright; and alright since the moment he left. "You did survive five minutes in this world without me, so I think you can handle me being out for about an hour or so. Maybe three. But definitely no more than about -- I dunno -- five hours. Five hours. Five minutes. Nice round numbers. Poetic even, right?"

THE AIR CAME OUT OF HIS LUNGS IN RAGGED BREATHS, his body tense behind the display case full of the baked goods he so thoughtfully made every morning. there was a ring in his ears that prevented him from hearing properly, yet he was aware, somewhere in the back of his head, there were voices around him. “ sorry, i—sorry. did you say something ? ” the news that adem was alive had arrived just half an hour ago, and he was clearly not processing things well. however, he needed to keep going; he couldn’t abandon sweet tooth, but above all, he couldn’t let adem demirci rule his life once more. not this time. “ i was a bit distracted, but … i’m here now, i’m ready. so, hit me with what you said again, please, i swear i’m listening now. ”
There was an air that hung over the town and Yujin seemed to be immune to it. Maybe it was best to live as if nothing bad was happening? But how he just walked around each day and interacted with everyone else despite the tragedy was something he never thought about. There was one thing Yujin always thought about: food. More specifically: treats. "I asked which one of these delicious fuckers are the most likely to give me diabetes?" Yujin repeated. He pointed at the luxious array of sweet that decorated the glass cabinet. Of course, one was to go home to Yuna. That is, if Yujin had the self-control to make sure that her treat got to her desk. That was a problem for later Yujin and whatever Yuna doesn't know, doesn't hurt her. "That's the one I want in my system, please and thank you. And the little pink donut wrapped up separate, if you don't mind."

location: their apartment
with what happened not too long ago at eden, yuna felt her older sister instincts kick it. yes she is aware she and yujin are twins, but she is older by five minutes and will continue to tell you otherwise. after losing one brother, who could still be missing, or could possibly be lying in a ditch somewhere, who is she to know, regardless, she wants to keep yujin safe and make sure she doesn't lose him. it worries her that something could happen at any given moment the second they let their guards down. walking around the apartment, she walks down the hall to where her brother's bedroom is.
without knocking, she opens the door to see her brother sitting there, "yah." she starts out, "if you're going out, please don't be out too late and please have your phone on you at all times." is she going a bit overboard? maybe, but again, she feels very protective over yujin and doesn't want anything bad to happen to him, "and don't turn your location off, i want to make sure you're close to the apartment or somewhere i know you'll be safe."
Yujin was used to the overprotectiveness. Even as kids, Yuna had hovered over him. It was easier than taking care of himself, so he let his sister do that for him. Yujin could coast through life without a care in the world. And even now, with the bodies popping up and the fate of his brother in limbo, Yujin still kept his ease. He smiled through all of the heartbreak and trauma. And, so, he smiled at his twin sister and gave her a playful shove.
"You know who Daphne is, Yuna. And I'm fairly sure I could take her in a fight if she's the one behind all of this. Somehow. While she was out of country for most of it," Yujin teased between his shadow boxing. He threw fake punches at an imaginary Daphne and it delighted him enough to erupt in a cascade of giggles. "We are hanging out a bit is all. And, for the record, I could definitely defend both her and me if someone came up to kidnap us because, like, I am just build that way."

arden had been on edge ever since she and jason managed to escape eden without so much as a scratch. her mind wouldn’t stop replaying the night, searching for something she might have missed — some detail that would make sense of it all. hell of a way to make her shift at the inkspot memorable. the more she dissected it, the clearer it became — whoever had cut the power didn’t want to hurt them. no … they wanted an audience. and at the end of it all, she didn’t believe it was over. her gut was telling her this was only the beginning — hell, jae-young was still missing.
in some twisted way, she almost preferred it like that — missing meant possibility. it was better than the shattered certainty the families of the other three were left with. that thin line of hope was the only thing getting her through the next few appointments.
sudden movement behind her made her jump, piercing gun snapping up on instinct. she didn’t have another appointment for twenty minutes.
“damn it,” she exhaled sharply, lowering it just slightly. “you can’t just sneak up on someone holding a piercing gun. haven’t you heard of jump scares?”
Yujin was always a little curious about getting his ears pierced. He saw other influencers and streamers deck out their bodies with modifications and tattoos, and he was influenced to do the same. If he wanted to compete in the online space, he needed to look the part.
Sure, this weekend sucked. Yujin wasn't going to deny that. But Jaeyoung still wasn't found. That meant everything to Yujin. Jaeyoung was fine. There was no reason to worry. Yujin would nod along to those who needed a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on, but Jaeyoung! Jaeyoung was fine. And Yujin repeated that sentence every day, every moment, and every second.
When Arden moved quick on him, Yujin watched with his eyes blinking. A deer in the headlights. He tilted his head to her statement.
"After many years of videogames, I like to think I'm a bit of an expert at jump scares, actually. I have the reflexes of a cat," Yujin retorted. He shifted his body to the side in awkward, large movements. Despite his lanky size, he moved as if his limbs were weighed down by anvils. "See. A Cat."
