I think the most important takeaway from Sunrise on the Reaping is that. There’s a loss in implicit submission. In being passive, you give power directly to the other side. You help them by not acting.
And, on the flip side, there’s power in any kind of rebellion. Even rebellion that’s not noticed, or that fails. Every failed rebellious act is a step towards a successful one, even if no one knows about it. The Capital hid Haymitch’s acts of rebellion, and he failed; but Katniss only became the Mockingjay BECAUSE of the groundwork laid by Haymitch and the others for many, many years. She was used as the spark to light the flame that had been brewing for many, many years. Your small act of rebellion may not have an impact now, but it’ll contribute to that tipping point
The fact that both Burdock and Asterid lost their best friends in the Games😭😭
Rip Maysilee Donner you would have loved Cinna
literal footage of me reading the epilogue of sunrise on the reaping
“Will this hurt, Suzanne?” I asks author
“Yes you dumbass boy,” says Suzanne Collins whos was actually the fuck you author
One of the hardest parts of reading the Sunrise on the Reaping is realizing that we, too, fell for the Capitol's propaganda.
wdym Katniss’ dad was Haymitchs best friend?? That he watched him pine over her mom and that the two of them were the last people to try and tether him to his friends?? wdym he called his younger neighbour with her Seam-look and braids “sweetheart” and tried his best to save her???? WDYM HAYMITCH WATCHED BURDOCK SHOW OFF BABY KATNISS AND THEN WATCHED LITTLE KATNISS WITH HER BRAIDS LIKE LOUELLAS PUTTER AROUND THE HOBB??? SUZANNE???? HOW AM I MEANT TO HANDLE THIS INFORMATION???????
me after finding out who haymitches mentor is in sunrise on the reaping
i love the hunger games fandom because i can just say some classical lit shit like "anyone else getting antigone vibes from lenore dove's desperation to reach woodbine's body before the peacekeepers because even though he's considered a rogue and a criminal by society, she still believes the dead deserve respect that the capitol will never give as long as they hold their name and their power? anyone else feel like this is the perfect way to reiterate collins' two major themes of rebellion and the flaws in creating a neo-roman empire within the first 25 pages?" and you'll all be like "yaass queen, drop the essay" instead of saying i'm just a pretentious english major and it's not that deep
"How can a girl who follows light beams help me anyway?"
Me, knowing that Haymitch learns to use the arena force field as a weapon:
//SOTR SPOILERS
The paragraph in the epilogue where Haymitch admits he’s probably going to die soon was so foul of Suzanne by the way 😭 on the one hand it’s beautiful that he’ll finally be reunited with Lenore Dove. On the other hand I’m going to need him to live long enough to be Uncle Haymitch to the everlark babies. The Capitol and their fancy medical advancements need to give that man a new liver immediately because wtf
