when does the grief end
yesterday was my birthday. today my cat died. i realize how kind he was for holding it up for one more day so i could celebrate despite being in so much pain. i love you my sweet baby boy. i’ll look for you in everything.
write all the 9 paragraph posts u want ur never gonna convince us misandry (trans or cis) is a form of systemic oppression.
science has always been political. what gets studied. what doesnt. who gets to do the studying. on and on and on.
scientists on this post: yuuuup 👍
people who aren't scientists: um actually ☝️
i think it's beautiful that cats eat you if you die in your apartment and nobody finds you for a while. i don't know why it's used as anti-kitty cat propaganda as if eating you means they don't love u. if i died and no one found me for a while i would want my kitty cat to eat me bc i love her so much and i don't want her to starve. it's not her fault i'm too dead to give her her fancy feasts. she's going thru something scary ok. i don't know a single cat owner who doesn't feel the same way
Don’t make your younger self into your own dead wife.
Since some of you don't seem to understand how this 'new notes' thing works, I'll break it down:
I'm the OP. I'm making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I'm the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
However...
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won't see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog...as OP I won't see that. I won't see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they're, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn't see it, doesn't get notes for it, but they're gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it's not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!' then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They'll only see my reblog. So it's possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it's been seen by that many people.
It's killing blow to the community we've built here, by someone higher up who doesn't understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That's what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr's support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback' and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?', try that way of wording it). They're more likely to listen to you if you're not an asshole about it. I've already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.
Hey OP, thank you explaining this for us. I'd like to also add to please submit all feedback by commenting on tumblr's CHANGES sideblog (link below). based on the tumblr support email i just received and many others have already received, tumblr engineers are monitoring their feedback more closely there.
You can access it here.
Please.
We need all the feedback we can. Support tickets, reblogs, but most importantly THE CHANGES SIDE BLOG.
True! However, this is a boilerplate email, feedback is still important through whatever channel you can, and because of their new note changes, unless to comment on the original changes/tumblr/staff post about it, they won't see it. They've quite literally made it impossible to see unless you do it in a specific way (i.e. you can't add on to someone else's commentary, you have to make your own post). Changes is really meant for minor feedback or bugs. This is a much larger issue, so bothering them in any way you can, is going to make more of a difference.
As of rn its
Yeahhhh that's what my activity page feels like, but the post?? the post is saying 'nah only 300 people girliepop, all these other people aren't there'. So once they go from my activity page I'll never be able to access them unless I can find the specific reblog that they split off from to comment on.
All I can see is this:
Absolutely stellar design 👍
if the app hasn't updated for you yet:
go to the google play store. click on your profile picture in the top right corner. click "manage apps and device" and then at the top of the screen, go to the Manage tab. select the tumblr app, and click the three dots in the top right corner. there will be a check box for "enable auto update" and you want to un-check it.
Oh wow I hate this. So I tested it a little on a side blog and this is what it does
Then, if you go to the notes on the original post, it only shows the reblog from "two"
So the OP doesn't get to see how much engagement their post has unless people like/reblog from the original post. If someone adds any sort of comment, it splits them up like this. Artists, writers, crafters will see less engagement, nobody will know how far the reach of their post is or if someone says something nice about it. If you want OP to know, you'd have to make a conscious effort to reblog from the first post listed in the chain.
Not only is this going to be bad for general community things, but this could easily promote harassment. You won't see anything but the initial reblog from you if someone makes an addition, so there could be whole conversations that go completely missed.
Thanks, tumblr. Very cool 👍
EDIT: Also, the posts aren't even properly displaying the notes YOUR SPECIFIC VERSION of the post is getting, which this post has shown me.
This is what I see looking at my post at this moment:
But if I go to the reblogs tab of my activity page, we can see
There's a few more than 20 reblogs.
fuck tumblr
girl nothing is ever gonna be all the way together just enjoy the bits and pieces #yourfragments
Every time you have GenAI make you an anime waifu with three titties and a dumptruck ass a family doesn't get to have a drink or bathe.
Every time you ask Copilot to write you a PowerShell script to stroke your boss' ego, a city experiences a brownout.
Every time you chat with your AI "girlfriend" a farmer doesn't get to water their animals.
Using these tools actively hurts you and your community, while at the same time enriching some shitheel who would happily step on your neck to make an additional dollar. Don't use them. Actively remove them from devices you own. Disable them whenever possible. Go out of your way to avoid them. It's honestly not hard. You've been using the internet just fine without GenAI hallucinating at you.
If you find Google's AI Overview more irritating than helpful, here's now to turn it off in Chrome.
If you use Google for search, do yourself a favor and fix it so the AI summaries don't appear at the top.
I hate that “chat” now makes people think of chatgpt. no. I’m asking my imaginary greek chorus twitch audience.
my brain has subconciously decided that tiktok is “unhealthy” but tumblr is “healthy” which i dont think is entirely true but i kind of like the idea.
