The Jaspvid Letters AU
A summary;
An AU in which David and Jasper meet in Camp Campbell, Jasper survives the bear attack, he leaves the camp halfway through the summer, immediately after the attack (Which means he did not partake in season 3 Events)
Jasper comes back the next year, and continues going to Camp Campbell until he’s 12, becoming rather close with David- that is, until Jasper has another life-risking incident, and his mother forbids him from going back to the camp from then on.
At age 14, Jasper transfers schools after issues with his previous school, and winds up in the same class with David. The two become attached at the hip.
Jasper gets Peggy, his service dog, two years later. Shortly after, he discovered that David didn’t have a good home life. He confronts David’s father, only to wind up wounded after being attacked with a broken glass, David was kicked out of his home and came to live with Jasper and his mother. The two started dating soon after.
At age 18, the two moved into an apartment together and became engaged, David starting to study various topics and Jasper working on an arts degree. Jasper and David adopted a new dog, a shelter rescue in the form of a Jack Russel Terrier named Peter
At age 20, they were married. Jaspers webcomic picked up popularity, David started studying to become a medic, and Jasper got a job on a basic 2D animation team, helping with animating for small kids show and starting a small time webcomic.
At age 21, they found an abandoned baby whom they came to adore and after a while of legalities, they were parents. Then, Jasper got a call he’d never forget.
At age 22, a week after Jasper’s mother died of cancer, David took up a favour for a friend, agreeing to be a counsellor at Camp Campbell for the summer. Jasper, whom was on his way to catch a flight to go to a Convention for a panel, was upset due to David accepting the favour messing up his plans to spend the rest of the summer with him once he returned, and the two argued.
The fight continued over the phone, which soon hung up unresolved due to Jasper being in the middle of driving and David being about to leave for the camp. David didn’t bother messaging him back, and Jasper never responded.
The next day, after David finally turned his phone on and got news that Jasper had been in a car accident involving a drunk truck driver and had died.

David began writing letters every day to Jasper, using an old calligraphy set owned by the European, recounting everything from his day and everything he missed. He burns the stack once a year, on Jaspers death anniversary.
On Jaspers birthday, he continues their anniversary of capturing and releasing fireflies at midnight.
Jasper’s Ghost, unseen and unheard, follows David around, unable to pass on until he sees David genuinely happy once more.
David, deep in his depression, was suggested to return to places where he had good memories of Jasper, and so he did, quitting his schooling and returning to Camp Campbell as a counsellor, Oliver and the dogs being watched by a close friend whom waitressed at the same café he was a waiter at during the summer whom he called every day during the Camp season.
That’s where he met Max, a boy with a troubled home life. He soon learnt more about the boy, and discovered he was in an abusive foster home, and lined up to foster him next. He wound up adopting him.
Max is allowed to go everywhere in the house but one room, Jaspers studio.
He befriends the dogs, and Peggy helps him a lot. He comes to adore Oliver, but he still doesn’t know why David seems so surprisingly sad once out of the Camp, and keeps writing letters but never posting them- Or who the guy in the turned down photo on the fireplace is.
Notes
- David also keeps every drawing Jasper did, even if it’s a stick figure or just a page of doodles.
- David can sometimes be seen wearing Jaspers old shirts. They smell like him still.
- David still fights with depression and other issues and is medicated for it. None of the campers, aside from Max eventually, know about Jasper, and Gwen only knows the basics.
- David doesn’t let anyone in Jasper’s art studio.
- Jasper only gets 2-3 hours sleep a night, but he gets in as many cat-naps as he can in between work and caring for a toddler.
- Jasper was 6’5ft, whilst David was 5’5ft. Jasper would simply pick him up and move him around if he was in a spot stopping Jasper from getting to his destination. He also found it funny to watch David screech about it.
- Jasper has scarring on his left cheek from a broken beer bottle, and piercing scars on his eyebrows and lower lip.
- Jasper learnt self-defence as a child, and towards the final years of his life he was practicing Capoeira.
- David and Oliver are pretty much the only things Jasper has left that he treasures. They’re his main emotional support line that makes him feel better. Without them, his issues with his depression, anxiety and PTSD would’ve been too much for him to handle.
- Peggy is a 3-legged Cockerspaniel, Petie is a Jack Russel Terrier.
- Jasper’s dad died when he was young, and his mother died shortly before he did.
- Jasper liked to bake.
- Jasper wears reading glasses, and would read before bed
- David likes old songs and would often force Jasper to dance with him at night.
- David can’t bake, but he can cook pretty good meals.
- David likes to collect stamps
- Oliver likes toys that make sounds
- Oliver doesn’t like peas, but he loves peanut butter
- Oliver likes to sleep in weird positions, it terrified Jasper when he found him asleep with a pillow over his head and his feet up on Petie’s back
- Max picks up playing the violin, with support from David, whom plays Guitar. Oliver also likes to hear max play.
- Max starts picking up an interest in painting, and David supports it.
- Eventually David tells Max everything, and even allows Max to turn Jasper’s art studio into his own. Max treats it with the utmost respect.
- Jasper’s a ghost, and no one can see him, but when he sees his family all asleep on the couch after watching a movie, Max on David’s left, Petie at David’s feet and Peggy next to him, tiny Oliver lazily flopped all over the couch- well, he feels that maybe, just maybe, he can finally say goodbye.

This post will be updated more, in reblogs most likely, as I have yet to explore David’s character in this au more. I’ll have some character profiles up soon, too.
