(Omg, finally this post took forever for me to make, I'm so sorry I've been dealing with stuff IRL and procrastinating on it but it's finally published!)
The Broken Update AU is an alternate timeline in which Caine, who's been struggling with painful glitches and the wish to be loved by his circus crew, tried to code an update to fix his problems. But due to an unkown reason, his incomplete update draft installed itself... causing the whole circus to glitch and restart. But due to the unfinished coding, when Caine wakes up, things aren't the same as they were anymore.
Now, let's meet our... crew? Or whatever's left of it.
Caine: A ringmaster with no show
Ever since the update accident, Caine has been struggling to do... well, most things, like flying, walking, spawn items or delete them and regulate his emotions. When he noticed things were starting to get out of his control and that his crew had started to dislike him more and more, he wasn't handling it well. His tent is now a ghost of the past, a lot more silent and eerie than it was, haunted by memories of the players.
As said in the intro, before the update, he would deal with a lot of glitches that would hurt him or would mess things up at the circus grounds. He then came up with the idea to code an update that would reduce the chances of bugs and glitches that were hard to handle, while also trying to make himself better for his crew, but now the problem he wanted to get rid of is practically consistent and won't leave him alone...
Pomni, Gangle & Zooble: Reunited and Recovering
The whole crew had been on an adventure when the incident happened. The trio never understood how, or what happened, but somehow... they got ejected from the circus, back into the human world. The three woke up in a hospital and recovered throughout the weeks and/or months from the comatose-like state their bodies were in. They managed to reconnect, becoming a close friend group and living together in their shared apartment. Unable to find the others, they assumed that they are still in the circus and are trying to find a way for them to escape.
Jax & Ragatha: Mangled into a beast
However, the update wasn't so merciful on these two... they were having a fight when it started and Jax started abstracting. Due to glitching as the update started, their bodies got stuck as an odd amalgamation of their former selves and abstraction. Caine studies them, while also trying not to be attacked by the former humans, hoping he could probably find a way to fix their problem. Trying to send them into the cellar never goes well, sometimes Caine almost falls into the cellar with the beast, so the creature stays in the tent, where someone always has an eye on it.
Kinger: A forever homesick king
Kinger is somehow... stuck in the code himself. He has been stuck in the game for so long that his original body is now more of a corpse than anything that could be saved, leaving his consciousness to stay in the circus instead of being ejected like Pomni, Gangle and Zooble. He is now a part of the code itself and stays with Caine to try and fix the game.
He misses the other players, but after finding out that they had exited the game, he holds onto the hope that perhaps they could try to help fix the problems from the outside, but sometimes believes that they want to leave the madness of the circus behind.
