So Im off on a trip of a lifetime.  Thoughts are with those in the New York City tristate area, but I left there 3 weeks ago.  Took off from San Francisco after spending 5 days there visiting family and friends.  Had a couple of good meetings with Mr. Gandhi regarding the plans for my Africa travels. 

Was very excited to meet a childhood friend of mine from Nigeria, Karthik.  Have not seen him in about 25 years.  He looks the same and it was wonderful that his parents were visiting, so got to see them too!  Aunty made some amazing kose (black-eyed pea fritter)!... well, uncle claims it is technically akara, because it has onions in it... ok, uncle:)  Anyway, it was a great start to a trip where I hope to have many of those formative recollections.

1st stop... Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!... with a short layover in Taipei, Taiwan.
