‘’oh, gee, thanks, my friend!’’ he hauled the heavy trolley of textbooks he was pushing to a stop, walking around to the front and grappling the first three, putting them into his arms with slight difficulty, shrugging as he began pushing the items ( a lot easier ) now. ‘’you OFFERED help, i never asked. let’s go.’’
“Next time, I’ll TRY to remember your preference.” Caramae giggled at her friend’s show of dramatics. Rolling her eyes lightly, she instead crossed her arms over her chest, favoring it over her previous position. Her hand enclosed around the blur of red, earthen eyes flickering over the details of the fruit. “Advice, you say?” She asked, now looking up at him. For a moment, she thought about what Palak could be asking her about. After all, with the dynamic of their friendship, more often than not the Ravenclaw thought he knew what was best. Finally, curiosity overrode trying to predict what the subject at hand was. “Go on then.” She said, waving for him to continue with her free hand.
‘’now, before i start, you even know how annoyingly grating it is for me to ask for help, but now that i’m faced with this problem, you gotta give me some pointers!’’ he started, taking a large and quite noisy bite out of his apple, about to make a large entrance to his questiOn but realised he’d actually have to swallow the fruit first otherwise it’d end up decorating the office floor. palak rested more against the wall, toying with how quite to put it, ‘’it’s my sisters. well - parvati to be more exact. she’s started going out a lot more, not comin’ back for sunday brunch with the famalam, i think she’s seeing a .... BOY.’’ he almost whispered the last words, shuddering a bit at the thought, ‘’how am i supposed to deal with that? she’s my little mango, she ain’t allowed to see men, i already sent personal warning to all of the potential suitors around the area to STAY AWAY.’’
Cassandra merely toyed with the broom in hand. “ Well I should hope so, ” she gave a cheeky reply. It wasn’t out of the ordinary. The prefect had to bite back a laugh as his attempt to frown at her. “ I do recall saying that I made no promises. After all, international apparation can take quite some energy. I can only assume I didn’t have the STRENGTH to travel back and forth. ” Truthfully, she probably would’ve traveled back, had it not been for last minute family plans. “ No need to be so dramatic, mate. That’s usually my thing. ”
‘’you stood me up, so now i may as well burn my diary forever.’’ he flounced, punctuating his words with his hands and almost knocking the broom right out of her arms, taking several inching steps back as though to distance himself from more embarrassment. ‘’do you do this to everyone? on a daily basis i can safely say i’m not an idiot. now you’re here, I’M AN IDIOT!’’ he almost huffs, taking his stance and staring her out, before voicing airily, ‘’ah well, NEVER MIND, there’s no need for me to ask you out on a date then, is there? you clearly don’t have the strength, lil missy.’’
“I have NO IDEA how that got there– I certainly didn’t put it there, but I have an inkling of who might’ve,” And as if he were waiting for a cue, Peeves the fucking poltergeist zoomed past, giggling. “PEEVES!!”
‘’it might help me to understand you a tiny bit more if i knew what the heckers you were talking about, what is this mysterious item you speak of? will it get us into trouble? because if so, i apologise greatly, but i may have to BOW OUT of this little escapade.’’ palak was about to grin at the girl’s seeming bubbling anger, but quickly ducked as he felt something icy swoop past him, moving her out of the way just a fraction. ‘’SEE.’’ he folds his arms, ‘’totally just saved your life there.’’

Cassandra let out a huge sigh as she finished her Quidditch training for the day. While tryouts had yet to occur, she still wanted to stay in shape before season really kicked her arse. The prefect readjusted her ponytail before packing up all the gear and heading back into the castle. As she made it back to the castle, she wiped away a bead of sweat trickling down the side of her face. She continued to venture further into the castle, turning at the corner and practically colliding into someone, once again. “ Oi sorry –– well seems like bumping into you is just my way of saying hello. ”
all in all, palak was in a satisfied mood today, he’d finished his first set of out of class work for this week ( in less than an hour of being set it ) and he’d just finished wolloping up the last of the pineapples and cream in the lunch time feast, so he was feeling BRAINY AND FULL, a lethal combination when it came to the male’s mind. he whistled as he walked, eagle winged necklace bouncing around his neck over his robes. he almost didn’t even realise he’d bumped into someone when it happened, gasping a little too enthusically when he saw WHO it was, ‘’cassandra! what a pleasure to see you again!’’ he very almost stammered, but suddenly realised a bit of reality and T R I E D to frown to her, ‘’you never did show to let me finish my magic trick!’’
Claramae didn’t pause the emptying of her book bag on the wooden desk in front of her as his voice reached her ears. She didn’t even bother to glance at him, either. “I was wondering when you were going to come in.” She said. She walked over to the desk, using a quick charm to dust off the chair– a second later, dark denim clad legs were swung on top of the purposely created mess as the snake reclined. “I would’ve said something, but you seemed to be rather enjoying yourself. I didn’t want to shatter your fantasy…. It was all very double o’ seven of ya.” The Slytherin tucked her hands behind her head, shrugging. She’d figured the Ravenclaw was on some protective spiel again. “Just a little place of mine I found in my youth. I feel this the time that I should warn you: if I ever find you in here, or anyone else for that matter, I’ll KILL you… I’m not joking.” While it would’ve been rather easy to pull a disappearing act on her way to the office, as Slytherins were notoriously good at them, she hadn’t done so because Palak was a friend. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t put his head on a pike if she ever caught him in here.
the all revolving smug look upon his features quickly disappeared when she told him he wasn’t actually as sneaky as he thought he was being, rolling his eyes heavily as he slunked down the wall, ignoring any proper use of manners as he was MIFFED. ‘’what a crap bag situation, i really thought i had ‘ya. now my ego is obliterated. after everything i’ve done for you claramae bagnold you could’ve at least pretended i was amazing.’’ he stated firmly, not usually being one to tease people to NO end, but since he had took the female’s wounding a little too literally, he couldn’t help but make a teensy dig, ‘’now that i know where it is, it’s easy. i’ll bring a few books, do a bit of studying, but don’t worry. i’ll make sure i clean up after myself and i’ll leave you a note to say thanks for the extravagantly expert space.’’ he spread out his lean legs, unable to help but give a quick wink to show he was joking, his underlying traits unallowing him to be a hundred percent spineless. ‘’i actually came to you for advice this time, surprisingly, unless you want to KILL me beforehand?’’ he took an apple from his bag pack, throwing one to her before juggling the other one in his palms.
“According to my best friend, I am always flirting somehow. So it is likely.” Elijah shrugged with a careless grin even though he had been mostly joking. “I can´t help it, okay? You can´t cast one tiny hex in someone because then you are suddenly a monster that everyone must fear.”
he’d now taken a step away from the wall and laced his arms tightly together, deciding he was going to take a few more moments than usual to figure this boy out, he seemed to be giving off likeable signals, yet what he was saying didn’t seem very nice. ‘’why’d you hex someone? if it was an act against someone a lot younger i’d say it was pretty monstrous to me, mr man.’’
“Thanks.” She replied happily, “who knows? Maybe I’ll make loads of friends this year…only time will tell.” She was glad she had met this boy, sure, it wasn’t like her to talk to people, but as she was slowly finding out now, it wan’t as bad as she’d thought.
‘’of course you’ll make friends, it’s hogwarts, one of the most accepting places on this planet! and uh, the planet is a big place! like stupidly big, it’s --- giant. real massive.’’ he nods, popping a bertie botts bean into his mouth, relieved to discover the flavour was lemon. ‘’i’m finding it hard to believe you’re a slytherin, if i’m honest. you’re all ... sunshine faced. bean?’’ he offered.
“Yeah, I’m fine -” Lucas had begun to say when the Ravenclaw pulled out his wand, rendering the boy unable to move. He jolted forwards, a concerned look on his face, and glanced between the frozen boy and the one holding the wand. “You really shouldn’t have - He’s getting detention anyway.” He tried, not wanting to get anyone else in trouble. “But, you know, thank you.” He knew that Palak wouldn’t be in trouble, as magic outside of lessons was permitted under supervision of Head Boy/Girl, but he still wanted to minimize the damage done.
‘’oh i really should have.’’ palak stated straight after lucas’ comment, being very sure about his words. next, he whipped out his lavender splashed notepad, quilling down a special ‘note’ for the boy and he swiftly headed over to slip it into his pocket before sending him on his not so merry way. scrunching up his nose, he was back in front of the head boy again, now with his arms folded and the faint etch of a victory on his face as he wavered his palms about in front of his chest, ‘’let’s get a proper look at it then.’’ he began, honing in on a particular object, ‘’your pin, i mean.’’
“ You sure about that ? ” She looked up to the Ravenclaw as if she’d be able to tell just by the look on his face. Maybe she would’ve been able to if she weren’t such an emotional wreck all the time, but somehow Nevena got used to it and didn’t like when others saw her like that. They’d just assume she’s not alright, when most of the time it was no big deal at all. “ I’m under pressure all the time. ” The brunette admitted, for as long as she can remember she’d put non-existent expectations from others on herself when really she was enough just by being herself. “ Thanks Palak, I’ll try. But there’s just so many things to think about. School, relationships, being a good daughter and making sure that everyone’s happy. I need some rest, but can’t get myself to let go a bit. Oh I’m doing it again, I’m rambling aren’t I? ”
‘’of course, i’m surer than sure! have i ever L I E D to you? heck, i may tell a few harmless fibs to get me where i want to be once in a while but this right here is all me.’’ palak pointedly winked, sometimes wishing he could wave his wand and make everyone around him light and stress free, but he liked to think he did a good enough job perking people up anyway even if he thought he had a better way with using words in an intellectual sense rather than a reassuring one. ‘’if i’m being plain speaking, you absolutely do not have to be responsible for everyone else’s happiness, that’s crazy talk! i know people like to be rocked and guided but damn, we all gotta fend for ourselves, you’re excellent at school, from what i see you have a handy bunch of pals and as for being a good daughter, your parents should be glad to have a daughter who’s so benevolent!’’ he squeezed her shoulder a little, shaking his head as his locks got looser in his bobble, ‘’rambling is the BEST form of conversation,’’ he grinned limply, leaning down to lower his voice before ending, ‘’trust me.’’
Flo smiled. She admired Palak’s confidence and wished she had some of her own to match. “Tell you what, if you can bare to miss the first ten minutes of quidditch tonight, you can have unlimited access. Madam S will be glued to the match.” Florence took a turning to the left, and finally recognised the passageway she was in as the one home to her divination classroom. To her amazement, she wasn’t even THAT late. “Thankyou, again” she said. She turned the door handle, hoping to slip in unnoticed. “Oh, Palak!” She called back, suddenly. “I’d recommend choosing the disk titled ‘Pop’, by the way”
‘’oh, my hopscotch, you say that as though i CARE about missing quidditch? i couldn’t think of any worse way to spend my time, so unlimited access will be all m i n e, for sure,’’ he began to grin triumphantly, before giving her a nod as though to accept her thanks, spinning easily on his heel to glide down the corridor again, until she called back to him. he turned his head just slightly to the side so she could still hear him, ‘’i’ll be back once you’ve finished class, there’s no point me going alone now, is there?’’

It was the beginning of the school year, and Lucas was HEAD BOY. When he’d written to tell his parents he’d been so excited, and full of pride - but now, he’d begun to get panicky. Panicky that he’d disappoint his parents, or the teachers, or Dumbledore. In any case, he was still trying to do everything all at once - be Head Boy, play Quidditch, exercise, get the best grades he could. And it had gotten a little overwhelming.
Standing in front of a fifth year Gryffindor boy who’d skipped three classes in a row, he could feel the clash between his personality and his duties. “Look, I’m going to have to give you detention. It’s blatant disrespect of the rules, and you’ve already been give TWO warnings, so -” The boy just rolled his eyes and turned on his heel, stomping away, and Lucas was left in the hallway, rubbing his temple.
it had been a nice change for palak this start of this year, as he’d begun it with a swarm of new friends, unlike earlier years where there’d be notings in his diary of all the days he’d spent cooped up in the library and nowhere else. he felt as though he had a new lease of life and his confidence was better than ever, especially around new people. some people had told him he had turned arrogant and self centred since ‘coming out of his shell’, but if that’s what he got from trying to help people and become the best he could be then it was better than nothing.
he’d been doing homework as he left the ravenclaw common room, shiny new books tucked neatly under his arms. it was lunch time and he was starving, robes trailing behind him as he strode forward. that was until he stumbled upon the hufflepuff head boy - lucas grayson - looking a bit dishevelled. within a second he was figuring out the situation by seeing a gryffindor lad fleeing off, coming to a halt next to the man, ‘’are you okay?’’ he asked in a concerned tone, frowning upon the adolescent just up ahead. automatically acting upon impulse, he pulled out his wand and whispered, ‘’locomotor mortis!’’, causing the boy to be unable to move. palak folded his arms and turned to lucas, ‘’i must say, i do HATE violence, but i hate impolite manners even more.’’
“Well I spend most of my time in the greenhouses, I know them like the back of my hand” Florence chattered away, as she ducked behind a tapestry, trying to keep up with the pace of her companion. She brushed away a strand of hair from her face. “Too well, actually, considering I’ve stumbled across Madam Pomfrey’s stash of muggle music”. It seemed to be endless, but Flo found herself enjoying what seemed to be the long way round. “So, Palak Patil’ she questioned, waggling her eyebrows. “How do you know your way around these tapes and tapestries?”
‘’at least you’re not completely out of the know then, are you?’’ he commented, checking the courtyard clock as they passed to make sure he was maintaining the time limit, braving walking the slightest bit faster though he knew it wasn’t a very long trip now, ‘’muggle music? i’d like to peek a look at that stash, call it a repayment of my guiding skills.’’ palak smirked, always loving a good compromise when it worked in his favour. ‘’to be fair, when you have a brain like mine, so unquenched with the need for knowledge, it kind of hard to ignore the beauty and secrecy that is hogwarts castle. you’d be surprised by what you find with a little adventure..’’

CRICK. Claramae kicked the door the rest of the way open with the toe of her combat boots. The last time she’d visited her secret hiding spot, an abandoned office in the castle, had been around the time of the whole banshee mess. However, with a new school year, came the renewed love of the place that was all hers. She pointed her wand at the windows, biting her lip as she tried her hardest not to murmur the incantation. The shades pulled back a little too rough for her taste, but at least they’d done something. After that, she went to work with cleaning up the space, practicing her nonverball spells, ( except for when she lit candles– she was rightfully a little wary to try that just yet. ) her nose crinkling up as she picked up a can of expired biscuits. Throwing it into a trash bag, she put a new can in it’s place. “Perfect.”
palak had decided to follow claramae for a completely different reason other than usual today, he actually needed her advice, but it wouldn’t hurt to gauge a quick look at who she was with at the same time. at first he was headed towards the outdoor grounds to try and scope her out, but spotted her going a way he had yet to explore and his interest was piqued more or less straight away. it would probably have been much easier for him to shout her over ( and much less weird ), but it may or may not have amused him more than it should have that he was just a few feet behind her and she was non the wiser. slipping behind a grey layered wall as she walked into an unrecognised office, he waited a few moments, his nerd side threatening for him to pretend he was some sort of TOP S P Y. finally getting to the door, he swung it open and leaned against the frame all in one big appearance with an over the top grin, ‘’a-ha, gotcha! wait - you’re alone? i thought you were coming to meet someone. my bad.’’ he laughed halfheartedly, rubbing his neck, ‘’what is this place?’’
“Funny,” she replied, rolling her eyes. She’d meant it to be sarcastic, but she couldn’t help smiling. She followed the boy as he walked in front of her, trying to remember which twists and turns he’d taken so that getting lost wouldn’t be such a common occurrence as the year progressed. “I’m Flo by the way.”
‘’i’m palak patil,’’ he answered swiftly, nipping behind a purple velveted curtain and beckoning for her to come follow him, heading down a narrow hallway. he could’ve just taken the stairs and made for a much easier to remember route, but anyone who knew him personally knew he didn’t do anything by HALF. ‘’five years you’ve been here, did you say? i’m shocked to see you have no clue about the short cuts behind the tapestries. you just need to know how to find the right ones.’’
