What I was trying to say

Is that I loved Prince and I think we all had some connection to the great things he did and we(train) plan on paying tribute to him during the shows we have coming up. Hope you dig it. See?! Way more positive. I'm getting the hang of this I think. 😕 Love, Pat

Birthday wishes and my favorite witches!

Thank you all for the great birthday wishes. I don't really do my birthday very well. Seems like more of a day for my mom than me. I just kinda did my thing as she agonized in delivery. It's a funny day really. If I didn't know the date I wouldn't ever remember. I've preoccupied my brain with things that count. Things that I love. People I miss. I do appreciate it though. Not trying to discount the vibe. Just not really where I'm at currently. Thank you. That's what I mean to say. Doesn't come easy to accept compliments and good wishes but I will today. Thank you! I love you too. And to those witches, you know who you are, I love you too!!!!!!!! Pat

Just because

I've been around some pretty great people. Not everyone is rich, established nor are they at the top of their game. They all have a story though. Don't ever underestimate who you're in an elevator with. Chances are they are way smarter and more bad ass by miles.

I learned to be nice to people because I had great parents and siblings. I stay that way because I'm not an asshole.

Doesn't take a lot to have manners. Doesn't take a lot to want to help.

I speak from an advantage point, I understand that. However, I have been who I am Since god knows.

When I see kindness it makes me get teary eyed.

Bands

I used to invest in them, my time, my heart, my love. Times change and here we are in the middle of it all. Bands are a thing of the past. There are a few. Some are really big and still make a big impression but for the most part bands are yesterday. I’m in one so this is a tough reality. My band is black and blue and red all over. My band has had its ass handed to us more than once but we work through it. We get up and get back on the bike. Bands aren’t supposed to quit. They’re supposed to figure out how to get it together again and make shit right again. When are MY bands going to stand up for what I/we believe in and kick some ass again? Well, never. That’s the real answer. Competition is fierce and kids have moved on…way on.

No bother. My band will play the fool and pretend that music hasn’t “moved on”. I will act as if I can contribute and without me the world is a lesser world. Is it true? Who cares! Truth is not anything but science and science is NOT music no matter how hard it tries. Rock Stars are not at Microsoft and Apple. They are on stage making you/me think shit we never thought before. Music is for the soul.

So I’m going to do it. I’m going to go after it like I’ve always done. I’ll be that band I want in my life. I’ll be the fighter of the fight. Yeah some will laugh. Some will hate. But I will smile through it all, knowing that I have to represent the band that I need so bad right now.

Bands

And so this is Christmas....

I wonder what I'm supposed to want at Christmas these days. What wishes would make this holiday the best I've ever had? Do I dream of a great time for my children or no more gun crimes? Do I ask for my friends and family to have a year filled with lack of loss? Not sure really what is worthy of a Christmas wish. I think that maybe the best thing to ask for is that we all breathe deeper than we ever have. When I'm getting worked up my wife says, "Just breathe". No better advice for a guy like me really. Breathe. Wait. Don't act so fast. Take a moment to see things clearly. Feel those feelings inside your body. Understand that those feelings are temporary. Breathe. I want that for the world this holiday. If you want to do something that might hurt someone, wait. Breathe. Understand those feelings and beat them. If you want to hurt yourself, take a moment to stop and take inventory of those feelings and then breathe them out. We have such a short time here. It's hard. Even for those you think have it easy, it's hard. Life is a challenge. We are in it together as separate as we feel most of the time. Breathe. There is great love in all of us. I wish for 2016 to be a year of great love. A year to breathe through the pain. Every year is a new tattoo. The more we resist the harder it hurts. The more we try to change the challenge the harder the challenges are. I hope that this Christmas and 2016 is a year of hope and healing. This is what I want for us all. Love, Pat

My 7 year old has been asking me a lot of questions that I can't answer as well as I'd like to. "What is Thanksgiving? Is Santa really real? Who's Jesus" I didn't expect this so soon with her but she's innocent and also wise. So, I suppose I'm the one that is slow to grow.

I think of my friend Chris Pittman at holiday time. I met him many years ago in Philadelphia. We opened for Hootie and the Blowfish and he was there for us. He's been in a wheelchair ever since I met him and he has been defying the odds of a life taking disease for as long as I've known him as well.

He is one of the many people that I think about when I'm trying to beat the odds at my own craps game of life. "Can I write a great song? Am I still good enough? Does anyone still care? Should I bow out gracefully?"

I always end up in the same place after asking these questions...GO! Go until you can't go. The ones I love will be the ones to remember. The ones to come can perhaps be tilted by my voyage. This life is a constant turn of events. As soon as I feel like I'm up, the current shifts. I will never feel comfortable. Once I do, the end is near.

New music is everywhere and I love so much of it.

If you do too that is awesome. Do not ever think that you forsake me. I am right there with you. Love it with all your hearts. This is YOUR voyage. Be you at all costs. I will love you through it as you've loved me through my changes. And there are many more to come...from us all if we are being true to ourselves.

Here's why...

We all love music, right? It changes everything for people like us. We're screwed and then that song reminds us that we aren't. Maybe we are actually winning. Songs get us through. I heard a song tonight, unfinished, unbelievable and holy shit kind of hit. Not sue that I'll be the privileged one to sing on it but if I am OH BOY! Shit is gonna get turnt! See you all weekend with my "pursuit of being famous" bullshit(Friday on the Pulse and then Sunday with the Chef's classic!). And I'll let you know about that song.....so good!!!💙🍅

The curse of being human

What a gift this life is. How could we ever complain? All of the heartache and tragedy that there is, how could we ever have a rebuttal? We play and skip through life as though it's easy, while others contemplate the end. We dislike the choice of wine while knowing that many cannot taste anything because they are in a coma or in a state of depression and taste does not matter. There is no end until the end. We work. We play. We love. We fall. And so on and so forth. I watch movies at times to take my mind off of the inevitable. I write to shift the game's platform. I try to be normal while knowing it's all going to stop some day. I'm petrified. I don't want to be here for one moment past my wife's last breath. I don't want to be here without my love. My children need me though. They need her mostly. I hope I go first. I will then be free of that burden. I hope we all end up in some awesome hot tub somewhere just shooting the shit and thinking about the best parts of our lives. Oh this curse. This blessing. This life. ❤️🙏🏻🍅

21 years later

I never really thought that there would be a 21 years later. You can really only say that if there are 21 years of enlightenment and people are willing to listen. Be sure of this, I will find a way to you. I will speak for us all. I will push the bullies and doubters aside and I will carve a path for those of us that are kindred spirits. I'll need you all though. I'll need you to lead me. We are small in numbers but mighty in the movement. We are one. We are family. We are soon to be heard. I am grateful for you all. No more waiting for people to hear us. Let's all make ourselves heard. Here we come! ❤️🍅🙏🏻💪🏼 Pat

What the?

I have judged things for too long. Makes me tired. Makes me grumpy. Makes me dumber and think that I'm right. I think I'll take a break. I think I'll take some time. I think that being quiet Will be sublime. Spread the word. 💜Pat

The "right" movie

The right movie can really put things in perspective. I've been traveling as a part on a floating island for so long that I sometimes forget that my life is sort of a make believe. Real life is different. "Real life" is more of a local routine filled with work, chores, shopping, bitching, traffic, taking the garbage out and trying to figure shit out. My life is similar but it's also filled with people who are there to eliminate potential problems. I love the normalcy of home. I love thinking that when I wake up tomorrow, it can be like today..and the next day. It makes me think of my family. It makes me want to be with family no matter where they are. I can only achieve so much before it all catches up and I reach a point of " who cares ". I have so much but what I want I'm not even sure I know what that is. I feel so lucky and also obligated to a life that I signed up for. Thinking about disappearing for a while. Maybe I need to do some "real life" catching up so that I can kick ass for you guys. Hmm well I'll be thinking about that..and YOU❤️ Pat

Calm

That's where I am. What a great summer this has been, full of laughs and great times and an incredible tour with great music and friend galore! I am still. I am calm. I'm really never at rest but this is as close as I've been. I spend my days with my family and I cook and do laundry and I talk to friends on the phone and I drink white wine in the daytime and I play in the water and I sometimes reflect on what a magnificent life I have chosen and YOU have granted. I am calm. I will always be grateful to you all for such a beautiful summer. I will always have these past few months close to my heart. When I stop to think about where I'm headed, I will always have these past weeks to set the bar to the level I'll want to be. Thank you. I care for you all a lot! Love, Pat
