I had the distinct pleasure of spending an entire week in the Montana wilderness with great friends this summer.
The wilderness is a very special place to me. I was a scout in my younger years, starting with cub scouts in 1st grade, and continuing until I earned the rank of Eagle Scout in high school. Spending a lot of time outdoors, and camping every once in a while was the norm.
Ever since college, and now in the working world, I don’t get nearly enough outdoors time under my belt. This trip was a much needed break from city life.
Feeling grateful for a fun weekend with the awesome humans who brought me into this world.
Celebrating 23 years of life. Truly an amazing day from start to finish.
Had the pleasure of visiting my alma mater, Wash U, for alumni weekend. There’s truly nothing like reconnecting with good friends, and reliving some of the amazing parts of college for a weekend. St. Louis will always have a special place in my heart.
I had a lot of fun with this project at work, getting scrappy with a lightweight experiment (what we refer to as a Micro Pilot) in order to test a new service concept with consumers. I believe in the value of prototyping to learn, and of testing products and services with real people to see how they react and behave.
the question qame
“I’m fed up with small talk!”
-Me, recently
After a number of conversations that I had with people who I didn’t naturally *connect* with, I started to think more deeply about the art of conversation, and where my best conversations come from.
There are a wide range of factors that impact the quality or depth of any given conversation I have with friends, coworkers, family, etc. A certain capacity for vulnerability is needed for any great conversation, because the participants need to be able to open up to one another. There are other important ingredients, but I ended up settling on one key component to a conversation: the questions.
Questions are where a conversation starts. It’s what gets the ball rolling. And insightful questions tend to lead to the best conversations. I wanted to have an always available resource of good questions that I could whip out if I ever found myself needing to catalyze a conversation.
So I made that tool myself! It exists here, as the question qame. I replaced the ‘g’ in game with a ‘q’ because the URL was already taken, and the letters look pretty similar anyway.
I sought to create an MVP of the experience, and I think it serves that purpose! I’m interested in refining this and making it more usable at some point in the future. But for now, it represents a small set of provocative questions you can utilize. Happy conversing!
I'm a huge fan of Instagram. Photography is a big passion of mine, and Instagram provides an incredibly accessible way for me to stay engaged with photography on an week to week basis. As the saying goes, "the best camera is the one you have on you" and more often than not, that's just my iPhone! I've also learned that Instagram is an amazing community full of talented people. These shots are from a meetup of instagrammers that took place in Chicago. It was my first meetup, but hopefully there will be more in my future!
