Patti Lupone arrived on the red carpet this evening for the 65th annual Tony Awards wearing a black and white lace Dolce & Gabbana dress with a fresh black satin bucket bag ; “bucking” the trend of wearing a box clutch to a formal affair. While others walked the red carpet for the Tony Awards tonight wearing Bottega Veneta knot clutches, Judith Leiber and other classic, hard box clutch styles, Patti LuPone chose to wear an evening bag that was unexpected and is sure to start a new red carpet trend.

The black satin bucket bag Patti LuPone wore on the red carpet at the Tony Awards featured a classic bucket silhouette with a thick shoulder strap. The shoulder strap featured black beadwork that was classic and added a fresh  take on a normally casual handbag style. Where the straps meet the bucket are were two formal bows; adding a feminine and sassy twist to the overall design.

Future red carpet events and formal affairs are sure to display new formal bucket bag designs thanks to Patti LuPone’s trend-setting handbag at the Tony Awards.
