quick life update

Saw my specialist regarding the hypo thyroid thing. More blood tests, hooray! Hope to find out more at my next appointment.

While I was there I also found out how much weight I gained when they forced me onto a scale for the first time in over a year. SHOCK! I know it could very well be a result of the thyroid issue and the fact that I'm so exhausted all the time, resulting in me not moving as much as I used to...

Anyhow, I'm now committed to changing my life for the better. I have ordered a Fitbit to motivate me to move a whole lot more. Bonus for Zoie as she gets to go along on every extra walk I take, and her daily walks already have become longer too. I also signed up for My Fitness Pal to keep track of everything I eat and drink so I can start doing better in that department as well. And -surprise surprise!- I've even started looking up easy recipes for healthier food. Going to make my first easy attempt atBroccoli soup tonight... Fingers crossed I won't burn the house down ;)

The best bad news I ever had

After years of struggling with depression, insomnia, exhaustion and a bunch of other things it seems like we finally found a physical cause. Or at the very least, a physical issue that plays a role in all those other problems.

My thyroid is slowly shutting down. Hypothyroidism.

I'm seeing a specialist May 23rd and after that chances are pretty high I'll be on meds for the rest of my life. I know this won't solve things immediately (gonna take a while to finetune meds to reach a very delicate balance and this will have to be monitored and re-done whenever that balance is disturbed again in the future) and I also know I still need to do a lot of work on myself and my mental state, but I hope that 'solving' the physical issues will -at the very least- have some positive impact on my ability to deal with the other problems in my life.

Strange as it sounds, I'm happy. Finally a diagnosis.
