Wind Pirate takes a bold anti-bureaucracy stance. I hear Lex Luthor loves standing in line at the DMV.
Real shame that DC Comics never made anything out of this guy.
âAMERICAN CHINAWARE INDUSTRY - 50,000 WORKERS - IF ITâS AMERICAN ITâS WORTH PROTECTINGâ
Easily the horniest Little Free Library/Pantry combo Iâve ever encountered, in Columbia City.
Avengers (1963)Â #5
I have never laughed at a single panel so hard in my life.Â
Stupid, stupid Superboy.
Supermanâs Pal, Jimmy Olsen #5 (November 21, 2019)
Written by: Matt Fraction Artist [pencils & inks] by: Steve Lieber Colorist by: Nathan Fairbairn Lettered by: Clayton Cowles Edited by: Jessica Chen (editor) and Brian Cunningham (editor group) Published by: DC Comics
One of my favorite scenes from our Jimmy Olsen mini-series. @mattfractionblogâs script is hilarious. @nathanfairbairnâs color is subtle and atmospheric and really sells the rain. @tomrogerscomics did stellar work on those Gotham City buildings. And @claytoncowlesâ lettering hits every beat with perfection, especially on that last panel.Â
You can get the Supermanâs Pal Jimmy Olsen collection from your local comic shop. If thatâs not an option, Iâve got some signed & sketched copies available at my etsy shop:Â https://www.etsy.com/listing/877872677/back-in-stock-supermans-pal-jimmy-olsen
I read this and then I learned it was written by a manager at an OLIVE GARDEN in KANSAS CITY and now Iâm just sitting here blinking at the screen. (She was fired after this post went viral.)
These four sounds are missing from some of the seven words you can never say on television, and the pattern prevails in other languages too,
âA study published Tuesday in the journal Psychonomic Bulletin & Review found that curse words in several unrelated languages sound alike. Theyâre less likely than other words to include the consonant sounds L, R, W or Y. And more family-friendly versions of curses often have these sounds added, just like the R in âshirtâ or âfork.ââ
What kind of flickery is this?
So two stars out of five, then?
Meanwhile, in the halls of Twitter HQâŠ
âour teeth and ambitions are baredâ is a zeugma
and itâs a zeugma where one of the words is literal and one is metaphorical which is the BEST KIND
I didnât know about zeugmas until just now! That is so awesome, everybody:Â
zeug·ma ËzoÍoÉĄmÉ/
noun
a figure of speech in which a word applies to two others in different senses (e.g.,John and his license expired last week ) or to two others of which it semantically suits only one (e.g., with weeping eyes and hearts ).
ISNâT THAT AWESOME??
#in english class in high school my teacher had us write our own zeugmas in class#and one guy came up with âhe fell from her favor⊠and the windowâ#i am forever looking for opportunities to use that one
She dropped her dress and inhibitions at the door.
Whatâs this? My favorite rhetorical device showing up on my dashboard?
IT HAS A NAMEEEE!! OH MY GOD!!!
I LOVE THIIIIIS!!!
One Iâve loved was âon their weekend trip they caught three fish and a coldâ
I love these theyâre like a pun and a metaphor wrapped up into one neat phrase
From Flanders & Swannâs âHave Some Madeira, MâDearâ: ââŠhe hastened to put out the cat, the wine, his cigar and the lamps.â
Itâs got to be possible to write a zeugma in which the word âzeugmaâ is one of the two words, right?
(I did it and it was fine)
ND Stevensonâs Substack is my current favorite webcomic, and this episode in particular is fantastic.
Worst superhero origin story ever.
Todayâs Nancy is just as mind-blowing in its own way as the early episode of The Simpsons when Bart definitively demonstrates the sound of one hand clapping.
